New Contract for Carsley?

Comments (10)

We just don?t seem to have another player who can play the role that Carsley plays as good as he does.... This particular job is a hard role to do and not many can pull it off.

Looking at him, I would not be surprised if he is offered a three-year deal by one or two of the 'strugglers' in Jan. So, my view is that until we can replace him with someone of the same ilk, then we should tie him down now before his 1-year extension expires and before others start sniffing around. He is undoubtedly worth having around for the next 18 months at the very least...

Same goes for Stubbsy ? he has been outstanding once again this year and certainly does not look like he is ready for the knacker's yard just yet. Give them both extensions now I say ? another boost for morale for them and I am sure a sigh of relief from Tim Howard.

Spot on.
Yobo and Lescott together make me nervous, and look how few clean sheets we?ve got this season. The goal against us at the weekend after Stubbsy had gone off tells its own story - a tall striker heads in unopposed from a corner in the 80th minute. Shocking. Another season teaching them the ropes would be good, and - as you say - seems very possible.

And as for Carsley, his ommision (and Neville?s inclusion) can?t have helped the fledgling Yobo/Lescott partnership much. He?s a bloody good water carrier, takes pressure off the defense and should be kept on. Could see someone like Sunderland sniffing around him if we stalled on a decent contract ? a la Stubbs a couple of years ago.

Carsley, at 33 is in the twilight of his career, but if Edward Sheringham can still be going at 41 then anything is possible. I would like to see him stay for another couple of seasons and finish his career with us. Even when he was with Derby County i could see he was a versatile yet aggresive player who had something to offer.

As far i know he never scored for Eire, in something like 35 appearances and he has only managed about twelve goals in his everton career. Nonetheless he can still serve a puropse as was evident at the weekend.

I completely agree.. Carsely is our best def mid at the moment and deserves at least a one year extension. I have a feeling Jagielka was supposed to succeed him in that position.. but until Jagielka can prove to us he can play that holding role as good as Carsley can.. keep Carsley playing for Everton!!

Carsley is invaluable, still can’t figure out why he didn’t get on the pitch in the Ukraine - we were lucky to survive without him. As anybody who has seen Jagielka regularly will tell you, he is a much more competent defender (or goalie!) than he is midfielder. Whilst i agree we should get Super Lee signed up for another year, i would imagine that a long term replacement with a greater physical presence than Carsley is Moyesy’s priority in the transfer market.

I totally agree with you all...Lee Carsley has proved time and time again that he is a great man to place just in front of the back 4...he has also produced long-range shots to thrill us(this weekend, against the RS few years ago, free kick against Newcastle few years ago)..praying that Moyes signs him up for atleast another year...till we find a suitable repacement for him
Happy to see that AJ has signed a new deal too..COYB

Apparently, Sissoko is unsettled over the park or something?
Perhaps getting him into a team with heart would worth a punt...
