Big midfielder

Comments (19)

Moyes mentions in the article featured that we need to buy a physically big midfeilder because at the moment our tallest one is cahill at 5"10. What available midfielders are 6ft plus???? I'm gonna get shot down in flames but I would like Sissoko to be honest as long as he was £5m or less.

Anderson Da Silva Franca is the business apparently: Physical, pacy, strong in the tackle, great engine, eye for goal, young, skillfull, brazillian flair, build Patrick Viera-esque - should be available for first team after reserve outing tonight. There you go, just saved ya 5million! PS. If anyone makes it to Halton tonight, would be good to hear if he lives up to the above billing!

According to my mates that support the r/s he has not been the same since his eye problem so lets leave him where he is

Sissoko is shite. He’s a physical beast but his passing is in the Neville and Carsley league. He wouldn’t join us anyway and believe me it would be more than 5 million.

Michael, I would love to see Anderson De Silva make it at Everton but I dont think its going to happen. He has the physical attributes and his passing is good but he hasn’t adapted to the English game. I watched him in Pre-season and he did have a tendency to give the ball away alot and having watched him live for Barnsley he looked poor. I hope he proves me wrong but there must be a reason why Moyes isn’t playing him.

I where looking for a tall midfielder I would go for Diaby at Arsenal. An absolute beast of a player and he’s excellent on the ball aswell. 6ft 3, strong, quick, lots of energy and good on the ball. Would we get him........probably not but he’s not getting games for Arsenal and maybe a loan move in January. Others I’d be interested in are Fabrice Muamba at Birmingham or Alou Diarra at Bordeaux.

I’m a bit concerned why he thinks we need a tall midfielder, surely a GOOD midfielder is what he should be saying.

Cahill is 5,10 an he doesnt get beat in the air by anyone, carsley is not bad in air so wheres the concern for height?? Its more important you challenge then challenge the second ball if not won. If he’s concerned about corners, get one of the forwards back with cahill, carsley we’ll be fine, leave the small fellas round the edge of the box for any scraps and to counter.

John Lloyd,

Where did Moyes say he wanted a big midfielder who can’t play football ?

He wants some physical presence in there because the top teams all have that quality and to often we simply get overpowered by these teams.

I,d have sissoko. The reason why he is shite is because he is playing to the left hand side to maschareno and he cannot play there, just like if roy keane or veira played left or right side of midfield, they would,nt be as effective.

Sissoko? The guy is mediocre at best, Moyes was extremely lucky on that one. Had the deal gone through he would almost certainly have been a strong contender for the worse signing of Moyes tenure. Yes he can win possession but sadly he gives it straight back to the opposition and when your pushing forward it can prove highly costly. If we are to have aspirations for success we need to be signing quality players thankfully we moved away from the era of buying utility players.

What about Andre the Giant? He’s immense! Oh no,he’s dead...

I think the key word is ’presence’ - nothing to do with build or height. Look at Roy Keane.

While we’re at it, I think what we need is some drive and craft to help out Arteta. Dare I say it, but Valencia are having a torrid time...Fernandes??

Sissoko? That is a joke.. he’s been playing awful this season!! I’d have Appiah.. yes.. he is only 5"10 someone said earlier.. but he’s a tenacious midfield dynamo, who is strong, athletic and also has some creative element as well. And he should be about 5 million.. that would be a bargain if we get him!! And Connor has a point.. Diaby would be a good signing too.. might have a small chance in buying/loaning him.

Colin Harvey 7 feet 2 inches - Peter Reid 6 feet 7 inches - I did go to Specsavers but I’m not in Malibu - Sissoko would be red carded every other game if playing for Everton - Fuddy Duddlestone! I’d go for Appiah personally we could buy him some stilts!!

i’d love the steven appiah talks to start up again. He’d be brilliant to have in our midfield, big, strong and experienced box-to-box type mf (and that’s midfielder, not motherf&*ker).

def don’t want riquelme, and thank goodness noone has mentioned him yet (excluding this one sentence)

sidwell i think might have worked for us, not sure if chelsea would let him go. fernandes i would take back like a heart-broken lover, and diaby would be worthwhile.

I don?t know about Sissoko being shite. Aught to do with who he plays for then lads? He?s being played out of position (as are most in the shites team mind ;) and if memory serves he was immense when he was being played bang in the middle. Plus, he?s proven in the Premiership, which many of the others are not. Trouble is there aren?t many (who would be available) for this position who spring to mind readily, so my money?s on either an as yet unknown (which could work - who heard of Manuel Fernandes ere he came here) or someone like Appiah. January is also not the ideal time to be shopping in the top-end of the market so I think a young, as yet-unknown is where its going to be at.

You can stuff Sissoko!! This is the guy who virtually shook hands on a deal to play for Everton a couple of seasons ago, and within 24 hours along comes Beneathcontempt and all of a sudden he is going to them instead. Play for Everton...No I don’t think so.

Is Tim Cahill 5’ 10"?

I thought he was shorter than that!

Byarni Vidarsson looks pretty tall what’s he? Must be over 6’.

If sheer tallness was the criteria I’d have Brett Angell back in a flash :) I now expect some bright spark to point out he wasn’t a midfielder :)
