The joy of last night's result is a little dimmed by the fact that, for the second time in this campaign work commitments meant I couldn't get there.

We got some wonderful posts after the Metalist game, so come on you guys who where out there, you can sleep any time... I wanna know all about it!

Don’t lets forget all those supporters who travelled to Germany. They got behind our boys albeit they were the minority of supporters and it was said by Ratcliffe that there were 10,000 of them all dotted around the ground as well as in the official area. Fair play - no crowd trouble or trouble outside the ground. We show other supporters how to behave. Well done lads and well done the boys in blue.

Fantastic team and fantastic supporters. We don?t get English teams kicked out of Europe unlike our lesser neighbours.

Well done boys!

Beating a German side in their own backyard is always a great achievement.
Great team display by all the lads and well done Big Vic.
We can go on and get all 12 pts now in the group, probably 6 is already enough as I cant see Nuremberg reaching 6 and Larissa cant catch us.

Great result last night, i thought we played fairly well, not the best we can but we did a job and it shows the new found confidense we have to hold our nerve and get the two goals at the end to kill the game.

Anichebe looks a really great prospect.

Does anyone know whether finishing top of the group gives you a better fixture in the knockout games (i.e. if we finish top we will play a third placed team from another group)???

I can only guess at this one
I am presuming that the
8 group winners and 8 Champions League 3rd place teams go in one pot and 2nd and 3rd place teams go in the other.
So winning the group would therefore mean you avoid group winners and champions league rejects including possibly the RS in the last 32.
I may be wrong but that would make sense to do it that way as you should have some reward for winning your group.

Mark, 1st plays 3rd in the next round. 2nd plays a team dropping down from the CL. Given that it might be better to be third than second!?

Clearly 1st gives the best draw. There is country protection in the next round too, so we can’t get Bolton or Spurs. After that round it is free for all, with a standard cup draw - no seedings or country protection.

Apparently, if we do finish top, we get to play a team that has finished third in their group with the first leg away from home. If we finish second, we play a team that has dropped out of the Champions League, again with the first leg away. The other thing is that we can’t play a team from England in the round of 32 and I would also think we couldn’t play a team that was in our qualifying group.

Thanks Dan and James.

I think we are in a good to finish top, and if we beat zenit at goodison (who are our nearest rivals in the group) would mean we have a five point lead on them and then the last game away to AZ Alcaamar (ignore spelling) will not mean anything. Here?s hoping.

It is all very confusing, I am sure a team of Swiss gnomes at UEFA headquarters spent many days and nights dreaming up the way the UEFA cup is played.
I personally find it strange a team finishing 3rd in a group of 5 goes through. Maybe England should ask UEFA to let them through for finishing 3rd also.

Fantastic result last night!. Would be great to hear some stories, looked like we had fans all over the stadium! Top stuff!

Yak wearing down the defence, and then big Vic battering them when they are exhausted! Should work against the Russians too. Certainly a good idea to avoid a Champs league side, so lets get a result next week too!

I thought we played well last night. I thought we played well within oursleves and I thought we looked like we always had the ability to step up a couple of gears if needed. This we did, when Victor came on. What a wonderful sub to be able to bring on. All in all it was a very professional performance.

Well done lads, not the best we’ve ever played but the continual commitment and work rate for 90 minutes is fantastic. Oh and by the way the red s++++ are not the first team to score 8 in the Champions League in its new format Monaco did against Deportivo la Corunha in 2004 Prso scored 4! so you can let them all know that it’s not a record!

Let’s make sure we beat Zenit St Petersberg at home and finish top.

Vic is progressing so fast it’s unbelieveable and Moysey is learning how to make substitutions that influence the game!

Happy days...bring on Chelski!
