How close are we?

Comments (6)

How close are we to being a solid top six club? Three players:

1.A first class right back
2.A replacement for the pugnacious and redoubtable Carsley.
3. A central midfield playmaker.

Not much when you think about it. In fact, we may even be pushing for the top four. When you look at the big spenders who have crashed this season ? you have to give Moyes his due.

As for Chelsea tomorrow ? it all depends who is available for EFC ? but with the right players I predict an EFC draw or possibly a win. I am looking forward to the match.

I’d pretty much agree with the assessment of what our squad needs. I guess it’s good that it’s fairly obvious to the manager, fans and probably players alike. As for the right back if we could find the right sided equivalent of Lescott that would be fantastic as i believe we need a bit of central defensive cover too. And as for the midfielder we need a bit of strength allied with the skill.

In essence though, we’re probably 3 players away from having one of the best squads in the league if you maybe trade off a touch of quality versus the age, team spirit and how long alot of the team has played together. Compare that to the not so distant past when we perhaps had 3 players who were genuine Premiership quality and i think it underlines the miracles that Moyes and the board have worked between them.

I hope tiredness doesn’t play too big a part in the game today. The midfield in particular hasn’t seen much rotation during the last 5 or 6 games which has included the extra time at luton last week.

We did great against cheslsea last year and should go there full of confidence on the back of a great run but I can’t help thinking we might be a bit leggy. It will be interesting to see what team the boss puts out. Exciting times.

Oh dear. Here we go again. Boom and Bust. A few wins and expectations are raised to unrealistic heights. We have the best squad for over a decade and we will cause problems for most Prem and European clubs but please don’t be seduced into believing we are anywhere near as good as Chelski, Manu or The Arse. If we get a draw today I will be amazed and overjoyed, anything else will be a miracle.
Can we not just keep an even keel? The signs are positive and we are definately moving in the right direction but surely we can all see that we are still way behind the top clubs. Chelski have more quality in every position and are at home. Next it will be Moyes Out if we lose.
Now next season......

We need a quality centre half for cover as well.
This is probably Stubb’s last season

You may have noticed that I deliberately didn’t say that we are nowhere near the RS. That’s because we’ve just outplayed them at our pIace, and they are managed by a buffoon who has no concept of building a team. Despite the money they’ve spent, within a season, we will be as good if not better than them. Their’s is the top 4 place I covet. The standard of squad employed by the other 3 however is a different matter. We can still only dream of going away to them and winning without a large slice of luck.

I think todays result bares out my opinion to the letter.
