The Mail Bag

Everton vs Chelsea

Hibbert at right-back and Neville at centre-mid; No Arteta.

Damn I am really worried about today's game now, I really wish Jags got the nod over Hibbert. Let's hope Osman and Pienaar have good games as we need them more than ever with no Arteta.

Would have been good to seen Gravesen get a start ahead of Hibbert

Sounds like Chelski are all over us at the min.

39 mins:: Neville shown a yellow card after his arm hits Ben-Haim in a challenge for the ball

Sounds like Drogba is giving us alot of problems.

Stuart Mitchell
8 Posted 11/11/2007 at 14:50:32

HT 0-0

At least we held them for the first half.

Now lets get Anchibe and Gravesen on early in the 2nd half and take the win.

Chelsea have both there first choice Centre backs out now, so 2 strikers is a must for me in the 2nd.

Got to head out, gonna have to cross my fingers and hope I am happy when I check the full time result.

COME ON EVERTON!!

10 Posted 11/11/2007 at 15:00:32

it’s on the box here in Asia.
I know it doesn’t really matter that much, but I would like to put the record straight, Yakubu didn’t touch him, Carvalho injured himself while jumping for a ball, Yakubu didn’t even jump, just stood there and Carvalho fell awkwardly. If anything, that should be a free kick to Everton.

11 Posted 11/11/2007 at 15:00:40

Drogba open goal chance. It’s all resulting from Shawn Wright Phillips run.

Shows that SWP can outrun Nuno Valente.

It’s a big concern if u ask me

Stuart Mitchell
12 Posted 11/11/2007 at 15:09:30

Second half:: The teams are back out. Everton make two substitutions - Anichebe and McFadden on for Neville and Yakubu

Going 4-4-2 early on!

rich williams
13 Posted 11/11/2007 at 15:20:25

The right move with their back four - Belletti, Ben Haim, Alex and Bridge.

Would have left the Yak on until at least 65 though and tried to batter them with the Nigerians up top.....

Stuart Mitchell
14 Posted 11/11/2007 at 15:23:50

I agree, would have gone Yakubu Anchibe and held Mcfaddon Back.

Would have gone with Gravesen in midfield 2.

Stuart Mitchell
15 Posted 11/11/2007 at 15:26:48

65 mins: Substitution for Chelsea: Kalou is brought on to replace Wright-Phillip

16 Posted 11/11/2007 at 15:26:01

Wow - Lampard chip, great save again...Hibbert off the line from Alex last ditch. Hanging on! Can we nick one?

Stuart Mitchell
17 Posted 11/11/2007 at 15:28:26

Might be on of those games where we hang on all game and then grab a late one.

Heres hoping anyway

Shaun Ashton
18 Posted 11/11/2007 at 15:33:06

It was going to happen lets be honest

Stuart Mitchell
19 Posted 11/11/2007 at 15:31:33

Paul Cook

Bastard Drogba! Bastard!!

Rich Williams
22 Posted 11/11/2007 at 15:33:35

1-0 Drogba

Bad defending again from a corner, very similar goal to the one conceded against Birmingham.

Stuart Mitchell
23 Posted 11/11/2007 at 15:33:48

Drogba has been winning everything in the air today!

A bit of a concern, Yobo and Lescott should be dealing with that

Rich Williams
24 Posted 11/11/2007 at 15:34:52

Surely Gravesen for Carsley now....

Stuart Mitchell
25 Posted 11/11/2007 at 15:37:19

77 mins: Substitution for Everton: Gravesen on for Carsley

Mark Griffiths
26 Posted 11/11/2007 at 15:37:53

What a game to have just before we have a two-week break!!!

They deserve the goal, and i really do not want to sound negative but we are being outplayed in this game, we are doing well to be only one down.

It just shows the gulf in class, the sooner we get a rich investor the better.

Villa won today so they go above us.

COME ON, lets get a spawny late equaliser.

Stuart Mitchell
27 Posted 11/11/2007 at 15:41:03

Chelsea are looking like getting a 2nd!

Stuart Mitchell
28 Posted 11/11/2007 at 15:43:57

Losing Arteta was the biggest blow, we need to invest in another creative midfielder in Jan.

I think injures have also played there part today.

No Vaughen, AJ, Arteta, Baines.

Valente has been getting tormented today!

Mark Griffiths
29 Posted 11/11/2007 at 15:48:48

Yeah agree stuart.

I am really chuffed at the way we are playing at the moment, but wu=ithout arteta, we are somewhat void of class.

January cannot come too quickly.

Just as i am writing, Cahill, get in, what a goal!!!

But lets not hide the fact we have been second best today.

But well done lads, for not giving in.

89 mins: GOAL FOR EVERTON: Everton push forward with McFadden on the left, crosses the ball in for Cahill who controls and launches an overhead kick into the back of the net

Stuart Mitchell
32 Posted 11/11/2007 at 15:55:30

Full-Time 1-1

34 Posted 11/11/2007 at 15:56:07

Cahill’s goal was definitely world class. Top candidate for goal of the week, maybe even goal of the month and season.

"We shall not be..we shall not be moved...."
Tim Cahill finished off what was a truly commendable performance by us minus Arteta...Was hugging the wife and screaming after we scored...felt like a win after gettin pummelled for long periods in the game...COYB

Kraxpot
37 Posted 11/11/2007 at 16:01:50

For those of you who haven’t seen the Tim Cahill goal - PLEASE GO GET YOURSELF A TELLY AND WATCH IT ASAP....

TIMMY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

COYB!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

jimmy hoffa
38 Posted 11/11/2007 at 16:12:50

I think putting Mcfadden in was a mistake. Should’ve just stuck with Yakubu.

Should’ve changed Hibbert at halftime with Jageilka on RB and Osman with Graveson.

Shouldn’t bring Carsley out at all.

Nick Veitch
39 Posted 11/11/2007 at 16:13:48

I just watched it here on the telly in Australia. It just goes to show how valuable he is to us Timmy. WHAT A FUCKING GOAL!!!

40 Posted 11/11/2007 at 16:28:58
