Listening to Blues talking about Tim's last-gasp equaliser has made my day, some of the youngsters even describe it as the best ever Everton goal ? well it probably is to them.
I was wondering which goal would be generally regarded by Evertonians as our best ever, has there ever been a poll?
My own personal favourite was scored by Sharpie - no not that one... It was against Spurs, I think it was 1983, not sure of the date, but will never forget the goal. He was standing to the right of the box, Park End / Enclosure when the ball dropped to him, he leaned really hard to the left and struck the most unihibited right foot volley past Clemence and into the far corner, the side netting sprung out so far I thought it had to break.
Clemence was a red, but even the biggest blue would admit he was some keeper, I loved his honesty when a telly pundit asked him later, "Did you nearly save it? " a startled Clemence replied " I nearly saw it!"

1977-78, Everton v Coventry. Pejic at left back knocked the ball to Dobson in midfield who passed it on to Dave Thomas on the left wing. Thomas was at the byline in no time at all from where he put the ball on a sixpence for Latchford to unleash a left foot volley for his hat trick and 6-0 to Everton. The highlights next day were memorable for Gerald Sinstadt’s description: "What a glorious goal, that’s the goal of champions!" Unfortunately his prediction didn’t come true, but that was a marvellously exciting season culminating in the Latch’s 30 goal record.

My personal favourite is Andy King’s against the Reds. Shows that the occasion matters. Now if Timmy had scored that goal a few weeks ago against the Shite in the last minute....!!!

Being a long time efc supporter my memorable goal is actually 2 first as a teanager Alex Young took a ball on the by line 5 yards inside our own half [mid-week game v Sheff Wed]and spotted Springet on the 6yard line then England goalie and with no back lift sent a ball over Springets head class personified way before beckham was a twinkle in his mums eye. Also Sheedy?s freekicks against Ipswich placed ball swung over wall to goalies right top corner ref disallowed it not ready places ball down over wall again this time to top corner left what super skill .Great times to be an evertonian any time!

Being 16 great goals have been hard to come by!
But I’d go for one of the following
Rooney v Arsenal
Beattie v Fulham
McFadden v Charlton

Tony Cornell.
I remember that Alex Young goal well. You forgot to mention he jinked around a couple of Sheffield Wednesday players before unleashing that shot from around the halfway line.
I believe it is one of the finest goals I have ever seen.
Unfortunately there were few televised games then so I dont think it was ever recorded but nothing even comes close to that goal in my memory.

Andy Gray’s first against Sunderland in a 4-1 win in 85. Absolutely brilliant move and a archetypal Gray diving header a foot off the floor.
The following two goals were crackers too and I’m fairly sure we got 1-2-3 in Goal of the Month.

I think Faddy’s v Charlton was one of the best goals I’ve ever seen, let alone everton goals.
I also enjoyed Ossie’s against Larrisa merely because it was a glimmer of the possible return of the school of science the way it was crafted.

Sharpie’s goal against Spurs was in January 1982 - he had only just broken into the first team on a regular basis. I was in the Upper Bullens that day and will never forget it - Howard Kendall said afterwards that he had never seen such a crowd reaction to a goal as that, and he was right!
Incidentally, nobody hates the ugly twats from over the park more than me, but Clemence was a notable exception. He was probably the most genuinely respected Liverpool player ever to play at Goodison. This was his first game at Goodison since joining Tottenham and he got a fabulous reception from the Street End at the start of the 2nd half. He was a true sport.

Adrian Heath, F.A. Cup Semi at Highbury 1884. Not the greatest goal we’ll ever see but a goal that was nearing an end to a 14 year wait for a trophy and light the fuse to something special. Highbury is now gone, but the roar of the crowd as the ball hit the net will never be forgotten.

Spot on Dave. I was at Highbury that day and the thought of it makes the hairs on my neck stand up. It was a fantastic release of 14 years frustration. The bus journey home was incredible too with the Everton team going about 10mph in the fast lane past all the Everton supporters. The players were celebrating just as much as we were.

I didnt realise Adrian Heath was that old scoring in 1884 haha, did you get a stagecoach home Dave.
You sometimes remember goals that were quite silly rather than spectacular.
I remember Kevin Ratcliffe’s goal that went through Grobelaars legs to win the derby 2-0 as much as I remember Sharpy’s winner there.
Kevin Sheedys free kick against Luton in the FA Cup semi final in the last minute stands out in the memory bank.
As for opposition goals the Gary McAlister free kick against Paul Gerard still gives me recurring nightmares, was that the same game as Don Hutchinsons disallowed goal that hit his backside i cant remember

One that sticks in my mind was Dunc?s piledriver off the underside of the crossbar in our 5-0 rout over Norwich in the 5th round of the ?95 cup run.
Either that or Joe Parkinson?s goal earlier in the match, just for his shouting through the net celebration!

Osman’s against Larissa was probably the ’best’ goal that I can recall.
However, my favourite has to be Dunc’s diving header against UTD a couple of years ago when we finished 4th. Goodison went absolutely mental. Quality.

Alan,
I remember the Sheff Wed game and Humphreys’ goal. I think that was the best that trinity side played in terms of football and we could have had 10. The lack of a goal scorer till Joe Royle came properly of age was the only reason we did not win the championship earlier. My favourite goal of that era was Alex Youngs goal v West Ham I think in a 4-0 win - a perfect chip from the corner of the area to leave the keeper stranded

I remember Sharpy’s against Spurs, I was in the Gwladys Street at the time. It was the first of his many spectacular strikes. My personal fav though is Barry Horne’s against Wimbledon in 1994, for many reasons, not least because it was a thirty yarder from the most unlikey of players in what was the most important and emotional game if not ever, ceratinly since the war.

There have been many cracking goals that I have seen live or on telly but in the most recent past I can say without any doubt that the one that made me go mental and had me smiling for days was the Cahill goal against Newcastle to make it 3-1 and secure the 4th spot.
He dropped his shoulder and rocketed it in and I went beserk.
I have to admit thought the Osman goal against Clarissa was an absolute beaut from the second Yobo passes the ball out to Baines and Ossie cracked it home

Andy Grays diving headers when the ball was no more than a foot of the ground.
The goal against Sunderland he headed in from Reids’ cross and the header against Notts County.
The 3 goals against Wimbledon especially the 3rd.
Gary Linekers goals with his electric pace stand out in the memory.
Brett Angell bungling the ball over the line with his big toe for his one and only goal against Norwich from 6 inches even stands in the memory bank.

Yes Sharpys goal was great but Alex Young scored a cracker against Spurs at Gwladys St end. Corner from the church which hung in the air,hit a defender and he waited for what seemed eternity before hammering it into the net. Superb.

Alan Ball’s goal that knocked Liverpool out of the FA cup in 1967 is the one for me. No great build up just a ball into the area that was heading to go out halfway between the post and the corner flag. Bally never gave up, he chased it and caught it about a yard from the line, turned on it and lashed it into the net. Never seen the kopites sicker!

Sharpy scored some absolute beauties. The Spurs one and the one at Anfield get remembered but does anyone remember that one away at QPR in 86-87 on the plazzy pitch? He picked it up on the halfway line in his adidas samba and took it past about 16 players before burying it in front of the Evertonians. I’m sure he was wearing trackie bottoms too. I think that our first win on astroturf. I also remember him scoring with his right tit against Newcastle in the full-members cup. They all count...

To all the kids , Im 38, you might not relise how good Sharps goal at anal field truly was due to the lack of mentions here. Its because its was SOOOO good and to be fair so talked about most pepole know.
By the way it was voted the best goal in all of the 1980,s.

nice one, forgot about sharpies goal at Loftus Rd, since the original post I’ve thought of loads of great strikes that are stored safely in the memory banks I remember them with equal pleasure and I’ve come to the conclusion me favourite Everton goal is always the last one
