Buy, buy, buy, Fernandes?

Check out this article about Manuel Fernandes

Would you have him back? Or do you think he's burnt his bridges? After all, there is no doubt he would improve the team.

Should we swallow our pride and try and entice him here, perhaps on loan again, or do you think the little shit has had his chance?

Discuss...

While I'm sure he wasn't upset at trading the prospect of a chilly winter on Merseyside for the warmer climes of Spain, I believe Benfica had more to do with his last-minute volte face than anything else. They stood to gain millions more from Valencia than they would have got from us so it's my belief that they pretty much ordered him to hot-foot it to Spain. So, rather than regard him as a "little shit", I'd take him back on loan if we couldn't land anyone else in the January window.

Theres no doubting hes got the potential there and would certainly be a good addition to the squad. But the question is would moyes have him back? Wether or not it was mannys decision to go to valencia its gona be down to mr moyes and kenwright. I would have him back though on loan initially with a view to a permanant deal.

I would love to see him back playing for us and I think that if it was the case that pressure was put on him to join Valencia by Benfica and his 3rd party owners then both Moyes and Kenwright will understand the situation a bit more than us! However it is all just speculation that he aint gonna get games for Valencia because of a slighty dodgy past between him and Koeman,it may well all get sorted out!

IMO, it is/was up to the man where he wanted to play, regardless of any alleged pressure from Benfica.

To suggest that he was ’forced’ into a move to Valencia is bit naive in my opinion. I think the people who believe this is the case are merely trying to justify re-signing a player who shat on us from a great height when he pulled out of a ’done deal’ at the eleventh hour.

To be honest, footballing mercenaries are becoming more and more common nowadays and I for one would rather move onto other targets than to welcome him back with open arms.

PS: I stand by the ’little shit’ comment.

Think we need to read the signs here lads.

Harry didn’t like him at Pompey, after training with us in the summer he turned his back to go to Valencia (not buying that Benfica ’forced’ him, we all know the power is with the players these days), Valencia’s former coach never played him after spending a huge amount on him in the summer and now the new Valencia manager Koeman is said to not like him either!

Does this really add up to a £12m midfielder? Think we need to start looking elsewhere and be glad we didn’t get our fingers burned with this one.

I?d have him back no probhlem. He?s not cup-tied in Europe either.

it was Benfica and the 3rd party that owns 50% of him that sold him to Valencia. The decision was nothing to do with him.

I was at Evertons end of season do in May and I asked him if he was staying and he said to me, that the decision where he plays football is not down to him.

He?s young and an excellent talent. If he?s available, we?ve got to get him in January.

Actually, he is Cup-tied in Europe, he played in their defeat to Rosenberg.

We don;t know the reasons he suddenly signed for Valencia but we do know he?s got plenty of talent and didn?t become a bad player overnight. If he?s available we could get him at a knock down price in January or better still, a loan with an option to buy in the summer.

As a Benfica fan I can assure you Benfica did not put pressure on Fernandes.
In fact, we didn’t even want to sell him. The only reason he was joining Everton was because Everton said they would pay his release clause so there was nothing Benfica could do.

Also, when Fernandes learned of Everton interest in paying his release clause he left Portugal and flew to England right before our first match of the season (against Kobeanaven for CL qualifyers, he didn’t want to play in Europe to avoid putting a possible transfer in danger ) without telling the coach. This angered most Benfica fans who saw the best palyer in pre season leaving without notice.

From what I know the problem was Everton only wanted to buy the 50% Benfica owned but the FA wouldn’t allow that.So while Everton was deciding whether to pay the 12 million pounds or not Valencia appeared, and payed them. Once again Benfica could do nothing.

Fernandes choose Valencia probably because he would be better payed but I think he also didn’t want to risk denying Valencia and then seeing Everton reject him.He would have to come back and Benfica fans would want him to rot in the youth team (me included).

Just wanted to give you Benfica point of view.

Best of luck to the rest of the season!
