Next Summer midfield targets

After just reading that ridiculous post about Moyes being offered the England job I thought I'd change the subject to something else that is not currently relevant but maybe a bit more interesting. We all know that the area in the team that we need to strengthen is midfield and that signing needs to be a quality player. But I started to think of some players who meet the Moyes bargain buy criteria or maybe a little under the radar. One player who comes to mind is Clint Dempsey of Fulham.
This American kid has come into that team and played very well but is also a hard working and tough midfielder, very much the Moyes type of player. He has a lot of skill on the ball, puts in a tackle, knows how to finish, is good in the air and is an attacking midfielder who can play on the wing and support the striker in the middle (for those times when Cahill's out).
I'm not saying that this is the top quality central midfielder we are looking for but he would definitely improve our team and add more quality depth to the midfield. One other important thing about him is that he is actually tall. He is 6'1", so would add some much needed height to our team, a need Moyes has said he is aware of.
The reason I mention him is that I think Fulham will be in trouble this season with possible relegation. If they go down he will be available. But even if they don't I think this guy would be a good buy to add to our midfield at a reasonable price. And one last thing. Everton have a U.S. keeper, Everton love to go to the U.S. for the preseason, Dempsey is one of America's best players. Wouldn't this be a terrific signing to expand the Everton brand in America while at the same time improving our short in stature midfield.

He is in & out of a poor fulham side.
How would he improve us?? I can see a bit of loyalty to the nationality of Clint may have creeped in here as he is one of the uSA leading scorers I believe, but I have suffered years of Everton buying cheap inadequate, poor second rate strikers (see below) and now we are finally buying quality I dont want them days to return.
Madar, Angell, Spencer, Bakayoko, Amokachi, Max-Moore etc etc.
