With the January transfer window on the horizon, there is one possible deal talked about all too often on this site, that it seems we can finally put to bed. The news wires over here are reporting that Villarreal have agreed a deal to sell Riquelme to Boca Juniors back in his native Argentina.
On a separate note every Evertonian in Australia will be cheering Tim Cahill on twice as hard on Thursday against Zenit. For those who don't know, their coach, ex-Dutch national boss Dick Advocaat signed a deal to coach the Socceroos, but when Zenit won the Russian title and qualfied for the ECL, he reneged on the deal! It would be some sort of justice then if our Blue Australian star smacked in a hat-trick against the Russians.
And finally what a joy it was to watch Everton dismantle the Black Cats on Saturday. Four beautifully crafted goals and three via route one, but a route one created by the enormous and unrelenting pressure we put on the Sunderland defence. I think there is a difference between route one taking advantage of a defence in disarray and hoof-ball. So we scored 7, Pompey bagged 7 against Reading... could be a goal fest on Sunday!

I have noticed, going back to the early 70’s 8-0 (?)drubbing of Southampton in the snow. That more often than not the next couple of games are low scoring, hope I am proved wrong, Portsmouth game excepted, as 0-0 would not be a bad result.

However if it makes you feel any better, I backed first and second in the Melbourne Cup the other week and I am confident Everton will win on Sunday, although I wouldn’t put any money on 8-7. On this occasion 1-0 will do very nicely.
