Yak and Schillo is really showing class

Comments (6)

Nice to see Yak doing well for us, I've liked him since he arrived in England. The bad news for us is that Nigeria want to recall him to their national setup. I really can't see us doing ok without a big player like him in front!

Schillo (Pienaar's nickname) is really starting to show what a classy midfielder he is. Passing, skill and vision in up there with the best. I think I've seen this player at his best at Ajax, why am I starting to feel i'm wrong feeling like that. I really think Pienaar's best is still to come and its most certainly coming in one of our blue shirts!! He is really adapting to live in Engish football very well.

Agree totally, i must say i was against the signing of the Yak, but he is showing a bit of heart and determination to go with his undeniable talent. As for Stevie P, well he?s the best steven on merseyside :)

Totally agree Ricardo. Pienaar has admitted he is still adapting to English football on EvertonTV. In Ajax and Germany he said it was played at a much slower tempo through the middle whereas in England in just all guns blazing fast. We have defiantly not seen the best of him. I remember him for Ajax against Arsenal a few years ago and he was playing a central role against Patrick Viera and was absolutely brilliant. There is more to come from the kid without a doubt.

As for Yakubu well we are really starting to see what a quality player he is. People just thought we where getting a finisher but his all round game is very good. He’s strong, quick, holds the ball up well and has great vision to bring the likes of Arteta and Pienaar into play. I think we’ll manage without him. Hopefully Vaughan can get fit and him and Johnson can form the partnership they formed last season.

Ricardo, what happens if Nigeria or SA get knocked out early in the African nations? Will they return home early.

I think the improvement in Yak’s game is down to Moyes.

When Yakubu was at Boro he was never challenged to work hard. I used to laugh when I was watching Boro because in Yak, Viduka and Jimmy Floyd they had the laziest set of strikers I ever seen. Having said that, they would score 50 goals between them so you can’t argue with that.

I was glad when we signed him because I regarded him as a selfish goal-poacher, which I thought we required.

Obviously this wasn’t good enough for Moyes who demands more from his players and now we are seeing Yak working harder and helping link up play. You only have to look at how hard the likes of Arteta are working to see what’s expected of every player under Moyes.

As for Pienaar he has totally taken me by surprise. I was very concerned about his slight build in a physical league. I shouldn’t have bothered worrying. Intelligent players don’t need to be strong, they just get the ball and give the ball at the correct time. Pienaar is an expert at that.

Hopefully we can get him tied up on a long-term contract.

I bloody hope they get knocked out early, cause the AFCON is really work on my freakin nerves! I really think Moyes have assembled a very good squad and i wish to God we can play Champions league football next season. Bringing in few new faces with quality mite push us for a top four finish. I think the current squad are building a very good winning mentality!, and that could push us for a top four finish. I’m gatvol(tired) of us settling for Eufa cup!

Regarding Yakubu, im an Evertonian living near to Portsmouth, married into a Pompey family (wife and father in law season ticket holders), so i do get to Pompey games semi regularly.

Yakubu was one of the most frustrating players i?ve ever seen at Pompey (and as you can imagine thats saying something), but you were never left in any doubt that he would score 15+ goals a season. He retains that quality that top strikers have - a total selfishness coupled with an unerring instinct for being in the right place at the right time.

He doesn?t look interested at times, but i firmly believe we?ve invested in quality. Effort and perspiration are one thing, and perhaps the hallmark of previous Everton seasons, but we?re now in a place where we?re able to attract players who know how to perform at the top level, and i for one think that?s a good thing.

Compare him to Beattie - a man that would often bomb across the front line endeavouring to work hard (and i liked Beattie for that), but his positional sense let him down and the goals were hard to come by. In short, he found life at the top a step too far.

Ricardo, I’m intrigued, why is Pienaars nickname "Schillo"?
