The Mail Bag

Recognition at last?

The following is from the BBC Sport website:

"At St Andrews, McLeish will no doubt be earning anything up to four times the amount he was paid by the Scottish Football Association.

But money cannot be the main motivation for an already wealthy man.

It was the chance to pit his wits against his old mentor Sir Alex, Rafa, Arsene, Moyes and the rest that has seen Big Eck pack his bags for the English Premier League. "

I think that's the first time I have ever seen DM mentioned in the same breath as the some of the so-called "Big 4". Even the blessed Beeb are having to acknowledge his success. What next?!

I noticed that too and it was great to read his name mentioned with two of the most successful managers in premiership history. (And Benitez). Maybe because Avram Grant hasn’t done anything yet worth noting Moyes was the filler (even though he’s never actually won a trophy with us). Good to read though, sort of fits, doesn’t it? Who could’ve thought of Everton being where we are back in the Smith days... exciting times, even the BBC recognises that we are a club on our way back to the top!

Probably more than likely it was just because of the Scottish connection. I very much doubt the BBC would have mentioned Moyes if the article had been about a foreign coach.

Not that I’m saying he doesn’t deserve such praise and comparisons mind!

Stumbled across this clip - it?s the most animated I?ve ever seen him (speaking of Scottish Managers) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dG27qGTMXa4

I?m all for Moyes keeping a low profile. I don?t care what the detractors say, I think he?s tailor made for Everton, I don?t want him to leave and the less likely his head is to be turned the better!

Quite right too - five years as a Prem manager is no mean feat in itself, and DM has his own very identifiable image which will appeal to some of the hacks who put this kind of stuff into print.

People like Shearer, scatching their heads a bit, are now saying that we’ve got something going here. People in the media spend more time talking to each other (networking as some say) than anything else. If we get through into print, you know they’ve been talking about us.

It will be very interesting to see how the media cover sweet FA/Clattenberg vs Moyes. I’ll bet we’ll see the Kuynt ’tackle’ rerun in the next few weeks, because I think DM’s obvious desire to take these bastards on has struck a chord.

I was watching an early morning discussion programme on the Beeb , I think it?s called ? hard talk ? , involving Slavev Bilic and Oliver Holt of the Daily Mirror , concerning the England managers job and Rednose Holt was singing Moyes?s praises rather loudly saying that they should at least go for a british manager and the two best are DM and Mark Hughes !! Am I being paranoid ? but I hate it when the hacks start building us up . Maybe I?m being over possessive but I just want the Blues to be ? our team ? never to be shared by the bandwagon jumpers !!

Yes, but did you notice that DM was the only one referred to by his surname? First-name terms for Sir Alex, Arsene and that bitter tosspot from over the park.

Moyes mentioned in part due to the fact that out of the top teams, he?s the only one who has been around for 5 years as all our other rivals have a swing door management policy! They're not going to say he is looking forward to being pitted up agianst Ramos and Keane, as they know they won?t last there long!

Referring to him as "David" hardly works either though does it, Moyes shares too common a name compared to the others!
