The Mail Bag
Vote of no confidence
Comments (11)
As the AGM is tonight (as well as the mini derby, good luck blue boys!) there have been murmurings on some forums of a vote of no confidence for the CEO due to his handling of the finances and the stadium move.
The finances of this club are never as simple as 'yes, we are doing well' or 'no, we are up the creek without a paddle' and no one outside the club knows what's really going on. Some fans say Wyness is doing a good job, as we are able to tie players down on big contracts and have finally moved into Finch Farm, others are saying that Finch Farm cost the club £9,500,000 to build and will us £14,000,000 plus interest buy it back in 2012, they are also citing the sponsorship, turnover and attendance decreases and laying the blame at his door. Is this fair, is his job?
So I have two questions:
- Does Wyness deserve a vote of no confidence ?
- What are the repercussions of such a motion?

Wonder how many yes men who still try to kid themselves he has the clubs best interest at heart, will come on here and confidently predict he’ll stand and answer all questions
they just know he wont, says it all really doesnt it
Get rid of this non achiever, NOW !

Debt is a factor in the modern game as a level of servicable debt is in any multi million pound opperation
All this talk about alternative plans, outsourcing etc is irrelevant
Am I happy where the football club is? Yes; Am I happy where the football club is heading ? top six, cup run(s) Europe, decent additions to the squad, yes
Billy and Bobby are the majority share holders of a company that is not publicly traded, a suggestion of there being a vote of no confidence being held and it being passed is so far removed from reality.
Here we are on the eve of a truly momentous European night... quite frankly i dont care whether satan or st nick is our CEO as long as the progress on the pitch continues
Trevor Birch was the best man for the job but we probably would have been sold to Ken Bates for a quid, is that what you would have wanted?
No, it's much easier to say bullys crap isnt it? I am sure you feel better

Early this afternoon I posted a letter in support of the great job Keith Wyness is doing as our CEO.It never appeared.Strangely it did provoke a posting from the so-called Louis Platt from whom we have never heard before.
?We don?t censor the Mailbag? screams the pre-amble to the Mailbag?.What it should add is .....? as long as your piece is knocking anything to do with the club?.
Already this week we have had an admission from the Editors that they don?t actually ever attend Goodison Park-so much for their love of the ?Old Lady?-but they do regard themselves as supporters. What a joke!
Well they managed to see off old Doddy and,no doubt, once they have spotted this rant they?ll see me off as well. But don?t let anybody kid you that this is for the good of Everton for they will only be happy when they?ve convinced us all that our Club is sinking ship!

Since Wyness took over as CEO our turnover has increased massively, we have smashed our previous transfer records on 3 occasions, and the good ship has been put on an even keel. We?ve got a new state-of -the-art training facility and plans to build a new stadium, a stadium that Everton Football Club could not afford to build on its own. Ok its not in the prefered place, but people would always argue that till they?re blue in the face no matter where it was. Our club for the first time in the last 20 years is moving forward. Football has changed, we have to change with it otherwise we?ll be left behind.
I think people should all get behind the club and all the staff from the tae ladies upward and stop finding things to complain about until its blatantly obvious we have something to complain about!

What happens when we have nothing left to sell but the players?

Why do people trying to defend Bully always compare him with the worst possible, characters in the game ? why has no one ever come on here and compare him to someone who commands respect ?
"Majority share holders of a company not publicly traded" witness their managers get votes of no confidence every day, count them
A vote of no confidence is far more likely to come from the terrace than the boardroom in todays game, contrary to it being far removed from the reality, I believe it to be an eventual inevitability,
Its easy to say he’s crap, because he so obviously is,

You Obviously have no clue as to how he financed the "achievments" you credit him with
Honestly, having read your post I feel utter, utter despair

"Mr Wyness suggested that steps should be taken to drown out the opinion of a vocal minority, a suggestion to which I take enormous exception," said Dunbar.
"If Mr Wyness is to choose which opinions are valid and which should be ignored then that is the endgame for democracy.
"I don?t feel that this is a battle or that it?s about winning or losing at the end of the day. It?s about trying to ensure that the correct location for a new football stadium is arrived at on its merits."
Dunbar accuses the club of using spin to disguise their application?s "massive shortcomings", notably that a stadium at Kingswells would breach numerous planning policies and guidelines.
From thescotsman.com
Alan Stott, the vice chairman of the Kingswells Community Council, said he hoped the move would signal an end to the proposed move to the outskirts of the city.
He said: "This must mean a complete retreat from the Kingswells site - I can?t see how it can mean anything else. A public inquiry would have just been a total waste of time and a total waste of money.
"The problem is that the club has never ever shown any willingness to investigate any alternative site. There is a perfect site for them near Charlestown, off the main Aberdeen to Dundee road."
From aberdeencity.gov.uk
"Contrary to what the developers have to say we are absolutely not against Aberdeen Football Club?s plans to build a new stadium but we do believe it has to be built in the right place and the right place is obviously not Kingswells. Because of the time limitation at this hearing, we can only list the major objections. Before doing so, it is worth repeating that the Scottish Office dispensation only covers the eventuality of Scotland being successful in the 2008 draw, it only covers a basic football stadium and not all the related commercial development and only if a suitable brownfield site is not available. Because we do not know at this point whether 2008 is Yes or No, we submit that this whole application be placed on hold until such time as a decision is taken. We think it is premature even to discuss this application because it is not competent at this time. This decision is far too important to push through for the wrong reasons and a mistake made now would be a stark reminder to the City, to the Football Club and to the Kingswells residents for many years to come. Please remember the size of the site is almost half the total size of the residential area of Kingswells and indeed in respect of timing, many people consider that AFC should be using the time now to investigate sites which can be delivered so that if 2008 is on they do not waste this opportunity."

The second fact is that this is not an Anti-Everton website, so I expect a full retraction of that scurrilous claim. We encourage free debate about Everton. Some people seem unable to handle that and I would prefer it if they did not post because they are in affront to the principle of open debate that we encourage.
If you need a parallel, think of the Yanks and their much-vaunted land of freedom and democracy... except that the Communist Party is banned. Why? Because they are the antithesis of freedom and democracy (apparently).
Now behave... or I will call the censor on you!

Assuming you regularly read this site, you will be aware that a good proportion of its contributors believe that Wyness has a forked tail and eats small children for breakfast.
I’d love to know what you think, rather than simply opening the inevitable floodgates.
Personally, I think Wyness is doing a so-so job, although like most of us I don’t have all the details to make a very informed call (and - before the howling starts right here - nor do I expect reasonably to get them). Given we are not owned by a billionaire, I think Kirkby may be the best we can do, and I don’t blame Wyness for supporting it. I think some of his PR around the move was, let us say, a bit cack-handed. I assume he can be blamed for a number of the operational cock-ups (e.g. ticketing and merchandising). And personally I have no problem in principle with all the outsourcing - an extremely common business practice these days.
But let the floodgates open..
