Not much in reserve

Comments (12)

Having subscribed to Setanta a couple of months ago, I took the opportunity of watching the reserves play Liverpool Res tonight in a derby game at Warrington on LFC TV.

Very, very disappointing showing, I was really looking forward to taking a long look at the much vaunted JP Kissock, he's absolutely tiny in stature and made little or no impact against a much more physical Liverpool midfield.

The number of times he lost the ball whilst in his possession was unbelieveable. He really would have to be surrounded by much bigger fellow mid-fielders if he is going to to survive in any sort of professional footbal. I hope I am proved wrong in the future.

After 65 mins it's 3-0 to Liverpool and James Vaughan has just been taken off (hopefully as a precaution) after taking a blow to the ribs. Overall, a pretty poor showing from Everton with little guile or skill and the midfield unable to hold onto the ball for very long.

Now where I have I heard that before?

Shandy went off with a gashed leg and Vaughan with concussion (supposedly). Looks like there out of the Zenit game.

I’ve been to a few reserve games this season- Warrington friendly in pre-season, Newcastle and Man City at home, and Wigan and now Liverpool away, and yes, we played badly tonight. It’s a shame, but it happens. Last week we beat Wigan 5-1 with a stylish display of attacking football with almost the same players (Downes instead of Kissock). Kissock has only just returned from injury and didn’t seem fully fit tonight, and we just had an off-day.

Judge the reserves on one game if you like, but over the course of the season we’ve been competitive and played well.

Also, I would guess that Vaughan and vd Meyde were already not being considered for the game tomorrow, I can’t see them having been selected today if they were.

Went to the game, The little curly number 7 was about the only bright thing in a blue shirt. Vaughnie was head and shoulders above the rest, switched onto everything. Showed his PL class from his movement off his marker to win almost every header to just loitering round the keeper and making him slice his kicks. Never saw anything from Bjarnie to show why he’s worth his spot on the bench. In fairness, We were up against a side who’s movement and football was on a different level. Credit where it’s due, They’ve some very talented youngsters over the park. In particular their Number 7.
I must say, if I was one of the youngsters out there, I’d have felt very shortchanged by Shandy VDM. You really would expect more. He was half hearted in everything in the first 45, seemed to lift his game after he moved inside, but showed nothing of the talent he undoubtably has.
Poor game, but for a fiver was better than watching it at home and kicking the dog!
Still hurts just as bad though.

Cheers Richard. Looks very promising. Seemed to grow into the game and got involved in everything good we did.

I agree with you Nick about JP Kissock. As you said, he grew into the game. Seems wasted out wide and looked more effective when he started to move inside. David Fairclough was saying that he knows JP’s parents and that he doesnt like playing on the wing.

Eunan O’Kane, Northern Irish lad signed in the summer, looked half decent when he came on.

I honestly believe that results are secondary in the reserves but the most dissapointing was the lack of tecnical ability of most of the players.

The shite had Nemeth (who looked a class player, cut above) Leto, Plessis & at least 4 others who looked bigger, faster & tecnically better than our lads & I dont believe that Nemeth aside any of them will actually make an impression on Liverpools first team, odd appearence at best.

Surely english coaches must be looking at Arsenal and realise that all 10 outfield players should be techniacally sound as well as being top athletes, that is the way the premier league is going & we should be aiming to keep up with the best, that HAS to be our aim.

There was some players who looked ok, Vaughan till injury was obviously a cut above anyone on the pitch, Vidarsson looked ok and Lukas seems to have the most potential out of them all, but AVdM needs to released, if we cant get a fee for him in Jan or just get somebody to take his contract on then just release him. Lazy waste of space & a piss poor example to the young lads. He’s a wanker, problems or not, fuck him off.

I went to the game too, and the first thing that was apparent to me was the size of the RS in comparison to our boys - they were bigger, faster and stronger.
It took me twenty minutes to realize who the headless chicken was in the midfield - own very own AVM - I think John Lloyd has got it spot on with this waste of space. For those of you who have not seen him play, JP Kissock looks like Kevin Keegan from the 70’s - tiny, long curly hair and a great touch. Personally I thought he had a good game, but he does need to put on a few pounds, or he’ll never survive the 1st team.
All in all a poor showing for the Blues - but what do you want for a fiver?

Am sure if JP needs to put on a few punds he need look no further than JP from our dogs of war days who’ll be able to give him the recipe for the perfect sandwiches!

Nemeth, Leto and many of liverpools other youth players are signed for over a million each, being a rich club they, like arsenal, man u and chelsea can afford to spend 10-15 mil on youth players because they can wait, and if only 1 or 2 become good enough they still get them relativly cheap, and the others can be discarded.

Evertons players, minus the odd irish lad and VDM are from our youth system, we cannot afford to spend millions on players for future, we need players for now.

No wonder liverpool where better.

I?ve been saying for years that Leon Osman is too small for the prem and won?t make an impact.

So I?ll start again now, and hopefully get a similar outcome.

Kissock? Nah, too small for the prem.
