3 points V West ham or progression in cup

Comments (12)

Just a short post, whats the thoughts going through peoples minds with 2 games against West ham in 3 days.

Would you rather sacrifice the Carling Cup for 3 points in the league or Vice Versa?

I would prefer 3 points as we may not progress past the semi's (not negative but it is a possibility), but then again cant you qualify for Europe via CC and also we can play at Wembley if we get to the final, but nmore importantly win a trophy.

We can make up 3 points up in the league elsewhere as we will have to lose soon! Whats your thoughts or am i going to get barraged with abuse again as normal?!

My choice is 3 points on Saturday....whats yours?

I accept I'm in a minority here, wanting (badly) to see Everton win the one domestic trophy to elude us over the years.

I believe we will win both games with Andy Johnson profitting from a rest, expect to see Anichebe continue his fine form in the cups we are just to strong for the Hammers 1-0 wins in both games!!!

I personally would much rather Everton win on Wednesday in the cup. I think 12 years since our last major trophy is too long for a club of our stature and would therefore hope we could win the Carling Cup with a win on Wednesday.

Winning in the Cup is better than the league.

We can only hope to finish 5th and that is garbage.

Foootball is about winning things and it is as simple as that.

Let's get to Wembley...

Cup. and not necesarily just to win something, but to win something *we?ve never won before*

We?ve never won the League or Uefa Cups, and given that we are now in the LC Quarter finals, we need to try and win it ? do something the club has never done before. It may be less important than winning the league, but we aren?t going to win the league, so let's concentrate on what we can win, and see the team become the first in our club?s history to win the competition.

I don’t follow the logic here. Why does one of the games need ’sacrificing’? If we can beat them once, we can beat them twice surely? I fancy us beating them handily on both occassions myself. Coz I don’t think we want to drop any points at Upton Park. It’s games like that we want to be winning if we’re to be a consistent Top 5 side, challenging for the title.

"We will have to lose soon!"

Yes, I suppose. How about we do that in Holland where it doesn’t matter, or at Old Trafford where it’s almost expected? Or how about we just continue our winning ways and worry about losing when it has happened. My glass is half-full at the moment, no longer half-empty. COYB!!!

Just wanted to add, with 3 pts from West Ham this weekend that could take us up to 5th and level with the RS, who I can’t see getting any points from Man U this weekend.

From there, if through some stroke of genius we can overturn Man U next week and then play another blinding game against the Arse on boxing day, taking all 6 pts, we could very well find ourselves in the top 3 and within striking distance of the title if we can keep up with the ’big boys’ from then on.

What’s with all this ’we can’t win the league’ stuff? Sure, the realist in us says it’s unlikely that events will unfold like that but let’s not knock our chances until we’re well and truly out of the running. 10pts off the leader is a hop, skip and a jump and we’ve got half a season more to go! If they slip up and we have a good run... hey, stranger things have happened in football!!

ok *deep breath*. one game at a time, eh? ;-)

We need a trophy, I’d be gutted if this was the first decade in our history where we’d won nothing.

Hmmm... Remind me again ? What did win in the 1940s? The 1950s?

Michael I dont want to start another argument but you can?t really worry about the 40s we were recovering from losing a brilliant side interrupted by WW2.
