The Mail Bag

January Crucial Period

Comments (11)

Obviously we know the Christmas will be vital in our season albeit being a very tough run of games. But I feel how we cope with the lose of KEY stars will be the most important. You look at the players were going to lose and THREE of them are key players and bang on form.

Yobo - Who'll replace him?, Pienaar - No one has his technical ability, Yakubu - No one else has his scoring touch then obviously we lose Anichebe aswell. So that leaves us with Johnson,McFadden and Vaughan.

I can see Moyesy signing an experienced striker on loan for 3 months in a McBride type signing. I think we'll sign a top class midfielder in some shape or form and depending on defensive injuries a loan signing.

Also heard rumours that Moyes will make a move for Arsenals unsettled midfielder Lassana Diarra, anyone else heard anything?

Jags will replace Yobo, just as he did against Zenit the other night.

Pienaar = Ossie I spose.

Anichebe hasn’t been selected for Nigeria so he’ll replace the Yak, either that or we just play AJ.

Hey Andrew, I’ve heard several times that we’re gonna make a play for Hoyte (of Arsenal) although I think we may be better off spending our money (if we have any) elsewhere.
Does anyone know if there was any truth to the rumour that David Moyes was hoping to land Fernebace’s Stephen Appiah last summer and if so, is he going to resume his interest in the holding man?

Andrew, I heard the Diarra rumour too, I forget where. I think that’d be a great signing personally but can’t see them letting him go.

err... I may be being stupid but won’t Appiah be at the ACN as well? Can’t see him being a target this window (if at all) as the second he signs he’ll be off and we’d still need a midfielder. Wind the Shite up and bid 3m for Gerrard. He’s getting on a bit and won’t hold his value. Yanks will be pleased to have a bit of cash towards the steel bill.

Diarra is only 5ft 8in tall, weighing in at just 9st. I think Moyes is looking for someone with a bit more height and weight to fit into our already light midfield.

Every game is crucial, there is no single crucial period. We are not the only team with African players nor are we the team with the most African players. We will still have 4 strikers available, we have defensive cover, we just need to keep playing well.

Arenals Diarra - hasnt he only just signed for the Arse? How can he be ’unsettled’ already? FFS if he is really unsettled already then do we want that type of personality at the club? - to answer my own question - NO. Maybe the rumnour should have read Diaby. Now he would be a signing (and is big, if that really is a requirement). He was class in the first half of the cup final against Chelsea.

Hoyte would be a decent addition but feel the priority is still Midfield, although I am worried about Stubbs and Baines being injured almost around the same time Yobo exits for nearly 2 months. (seems Nuno Valente and Hibberts have also been injured over the last few days/ weeeks).

I think the player we will miss in Jan is Peanut. Ossie isnt as good on the the Left and AVDM doesnt seem to be getting a look in. Upfront it seems we still have Vic, JV, JM and AJ. I’d settle for that for 2 months.

Backfour will be picked from Nuno, Lescott, Stubbs, Jags, Pip Neville and Hibbert.

Its strange, but we all appear to be watching different Evertons week in week out. Or am I just being a little harsh, Hibbert and Neville should not be playing for the first 11. Hibbert cannot pass and neville is " past it" if he ever had it! DM nneds to sign
a midfieder with balls and guile
a midfileder who has skill in abundance
a right back who can attack, defend, pass, tackle, basically everything that neville and hibbert cannot do.
A central defender who is good on the ground as well as in the air and finally a left back incase Baines is injured, as I believe valente is a liability.

I do not care if they are English, Irish, scottish ( i will stop at welsh though!) European, as long as they are better than the shower of shite ( hibbert, neville and valente ).

I go to most matches and think that 99% of people around me agree with my comments, the rest probably are too pissed to notice!

Chris just out of idle curiosity where do you sit.
Because I agree with the superman you describe in midfield But I dont agree with your assessment of 3 of our troops. Hibbert is a great in defense and I agre he couldnt cross the road, he is always there as a foil for Arteta just as Neville is. I thought Valente before he was injured has played some of his best football for us.
It was nice to see Paddt Boyle in the bench for the zenit game because I think he will make a nice full back in the future. I woul also like to see young Molyneaux coming through the ranks he has got a great footballing brain and a great shot. A perfect oppertunity to see some of the young ones get their chance

Hey Chris do you sit in upper or lower gwladys brcause from what I?ve heard sitting right at the back of Upper Gwladys when you are an old man with bad eyesight ,like you seem to be, can be a bugger on the eyes and you can miss tackles.
Also while im thinking of this you say you wouldn?t want a welsh player, what would you say if gareth bale or giggsy declared their desire to sign for Everton would you still give a shit about them being Welsh? would you have said no to Ex Evertonian Ian Rush before the kop infested him or Micheal Owen who has welsh blood in him, then look back through Evertons History, In fact just 10 years, have a look at our best ever goalkeeper or going back a bit Kevin Sheedy was born in Builth Wells and Pat Van Den Hauwe is a Welsh International, Coming back to the present day weren?t we after bellamy before the RS snapped him up? Through the years Wales has provided Everton with some fantastic players and I?m sure we will continue to do so, on a personal note my Mates Brother is 9 years old WELSH and is rated as one of the best players in his age group as well as two age groups above him,so just know your history before you slag off Welsh players alriight Chris.

On the subject of the mailbag comment I think Neville and Jags can cover midfield while Osman can cover midfield and now that Vics staying we can continue with either lone striker or Big man little man
