Last nights goals

Comments (8)

Just watched the goals from last night on the web and I was very impressed with the 1st! The build up was patient, passing was accurate and meaningful, and the finish excellent. I really cannot remember an Everton team which played with so much swagger (am just a bit too young to remember the great 80's team).

I really feel that playing in Europe has helped us learn to retain possession better and this is being reflected in our domestic game.

I was impressed with the Yakubu goal too, and although it was a mistake by Gabbidon and Green, it was all down to the pressure put on them by the Yak. He chased that long ball like AJ would, but was also able to finish it off once the ball broke loose.

I just can't imagine what we could be like with a strong, tall, creative defensive midfielder.

The Yak will be a big miss during the ANC, but with the competition for places we now have I can see whoever steps into his boots will do a good job as they opportunity is there for them to stake a claim for a 1st team slot, and that should be enough to ensure our great run continues.

The problem with the elusive strong, tall, creative defensive midfield player is the man you are asking him to replace. We should never underestimate the role that Lee Carsley plays for us.

In the season when we finished 4th he was a virtual ever present in the defensive midfield role. He then missed the entire following season with injury and we finished 17th! This season he was out of favour during our stuttering start and since his restoration to the starting line up we appear to be unbeatable.

Whoever does ultimately take the underrated Carsley’s place has big shoes to fill.

Regarding Lee Carsley above.

We didn’t of course finish 17th the season after we finished 4th it was the season before that! Still we did struggle a bit the season after we finished 4th and super Lee was absent!

Carry on.

I totaly agree about Carlsey, I think he’s probably the most underatted player in the premier league. I’m just dreaming of someone who can do everything he does, but also has a great shot, can ping 40 yard passes to feet, and threads through balls through the smallest of gaps.

Carsley is great in the role he plays, but if we want to make that next step up we need to replace him with a Viera type player (yeah I know easier said then done!). We’ve also conceded a fair few goals from corners this season and some extra height would help on that score too. But yeah I love Carsley, and I hope he’s around for a couple more seasons at least
