Jagielka and Yobo Partnership?

Comments (10)

Wasn't able to watch the game today, but I am thrilled with the away-win and AJ's goal after being on for 5 mins! Jagielka seemed to be improving in the past few games in the centre-back position. WIth Baines out and Nuno Valente questionable, as well as Stubbs out, should Moyes leave Lescott at left-back and keep Jagielka at the back with Yobo? COYB! Bring on Man Utd!

Definitely. We were incredibly solid at the back today. Jags has stepped up his game a lot recently.

Jags getting game time will stand him in good stead for when Yobo goes to the ANC. If Stubbs gets fit then there would be no need to bring in another centre half.

I am one of a handful of evertonians in Sheffield and if there’s one thing i know from watching the woeful Blades its that Jagielka is a far better centre back than he is a midfielder or right back, so its no surprise that he’s been getting the plaudits since he’s been given the oppprtunity to play there. Though he is versatile in that he has experience in those positions he is a CB above all and a good one at that. With him as cover we shouldnt be too concerned at losing Yobo at the ANC.

Jagielka is finding his feet at Centre Back and finally starting to look like the player we all thought we’d signed.

Lescott does a job at left-back but we dont want him to spend all season there. When everyone is fit and available then Everton’s best defence is probably Baines, Yobo, Lescott & Neville.

Jagielka may find it hard to secure a permanent position in the side but it looks like he can do a decent job covering while Yobo’s away.

To be honest, I’ve thought Jags looked pretty unsteady and not really that good at centre back when he’s played there recently, particularly against zenit (although i didn’t make it to fulham game so can’t really comment on that one). Was at west ham today tho and he was class. Got to everything, completely composed, some real crucial tackles. Obviously just needed a couple of games there to settle in. I’m with James here and i’d say getting a centre back need not be a priority in January anymore.
Brilliant day today. We’ve just got that extra bit of class now that can win us games and thats why we’re on such a good run. 2 trophies this season at least i reckon!! COYB

I actually thought we looked quite weak at CB in the first half and could easily have been a goal down. More a case of poor communication and and understanding between Joe and Jag rather than anything else. Individually, they played well, but the space that Ashton had for the lob, and how Ljungberg got in will concern Davie. Still, I’m confident they’ll improve the more they play together - hey, it’s a clean sheet, but we can play better than that defensively.

It seems to me that when players have first joined Everton according to general reaction, there seems to be doubt about their credentials, Yakubu, fat and lazy, Pienaar needs to settle and Jagielka not cutting it. However after they have settled in and played an established role, Jagielka looking good as CB. Pienaar looks better each game (sign him ASAP) and as for the Yak need I say more? It’s great to see that David Moyes’s vision is better than some people give him credit for.

Just out of interest Alexander, are you a smarter relation of Tony Marsh? Yeah Jags can play with Yobo until January but does anyone know if he's partnered l Lescott yet this season? If he has how did he do?

All I hope is that Jags stays in defence if Moyes chooses him to play. If him and Neville play in midfield together again I’m gonna shit myself scared...

Smarter than Tony Marsh? Maybe. But no, I am not related to Tony, unless Tony has long lost relatives that lived in Canada!
