Yobo and Lescott are they the best?

Comments (12)

Living in Jersey, I have the chance to gage other fans' opinions on football. And last night down the local, everyone seemed of the opinion Yobo & Lescott have become the best centre-half partnership in the country. Solid, pace and skill. Its a pity the ANC is comming up. Jagielka looks solid at the moment playing in the centre... I just hope they all stay fit.

Yobo is starting to look a top class centre half, cutting out some of the mistakes he was making early on and I would like to see him become captain. Lescott in time will become the top English central defender in the country. They are still young and still learning the game but I agree they have got the potential to become the best. I think you judge a defence by the amount of goals they concede over 38 games.

Yobo and Lescott are very good and have the potential to get better but lets not get crazy, I would have to admit that Ferdinand & Vidic are probably the best defensive partnership closely followed by Terry & Carvalho.

Yobo and Lescott definately Top 5 though.

Yobo has received many plaudits in today’s papers which are deserved. He has been a consistent performer over the years without getting the credit. Being given the captaincy of his country and also being vice captain to Neville has made him a better and more confident player.
Neville himself was once described as a future captain of Man Utd by Fergie is now looking every inch a captain and leader in his true position of right back.

Actually, i think Phil Jageilka and Leighton Baines will be a sure pick for England in one or two months time

Baines may be able to force himself into the England squad if he can get fit but Jagielka has very little chance.

Jagielka is going to find it hard to nail down a regular Everton place once everyone is fit and back from the African Cup.

Agree with an earlier post that Neville is doing well at RB. Lescott ,for me, is Moyes best buy.

I honestly think Yobo and Lescott are better than Rio and Vidic. I think Rio and Vidic are vulnerable to pace, give Joe and Jo 1 More year of playing toghether (hopefully Baines stays fit to make this possible) and we have the best centre half pairing in the league! A perfect combination of positioning, pace and athletichicsm

Still think Vidic/Ferdinand is the top pairing.

But i think our lads are there with Gallas/Toure of Arsenal & ahead of Terry Carvalho.

I’d say they are amongst the best 4 central defensive partnerships in the league. At the moment i think Pienaar and maybe Cahill are in the best perhaps half dozen midfielders in the league and the Yak perhaps in the top 4 strikers on current form. Oh happy days. If only this good run would carry us beyond the next two games unbeaten, although i feel we may come unstuck with a weakened, rotated, side in Alkmaar and the trip to Old Trafford is daunting for the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea, let alone us. But whatever happens, 12 games unbeaten in all comps is a tremendous achievement.

Mark - I know what you mean - although I think even a weakened team v AZ (and I think we must rest most of our lads and give youth a chance up-front), might come up with at least a draw, I do think the Manure game might be a bridge too far - but to be honest, as long as we show guts and determination and ’no fear’ I don’t think any set back will take our confidence down in the medium-term.

A month or so, I put out a post concerning the progress I was looking for in the league, cup and UEFA cup to prove we were on the right tracks. I have been stunned by what David and the lads have done and I am so proud of them. I thought the Hammers cup game would be tricky, and weven after that win I thought playing them again 4 days later would be too much - I think that ’double away win’ against the type of team that we have often struggled against over many decades, is a major step forward for us. I honestly think that even if he can’t pick up points off every team in the forthcoming months - we need fear no one!

The Lescott + Yobo partnership is in its infancy and lets face it, it may never become long term, DM definitely likes to get Lescott down the line - who doesnt - I think he’ll give the Jag a run in the center now, it’s going to be a long hard season and I dont believe stubbsy has played his last game for us either, with Nuno and Baines to come in we have as good a defensive group as any, having said thatI would like to see a good passing right back brought in in January, that’ll give us cover right across the back four, or back five if you count vessels

Lescott is the best centre-half in the country at the moment, wouldn’t you agree. Yobo has been playing well recently too, although he sometimes frightens the life out me playing the ball short in defensive positions...

I just hope that we can keep hold of Lescott, but if a bid came in for 15m then we would sell him wouldn’t we?

That is the problem these days, insomuch that any team could get any of our players simply by offering silly money; like what happened to Rooney.

Does anyone think if Vaughan stays fit and fulfills his potential that he would be here for very long either?
