Tongue in cheek

Comments (7)

30 points, 17 games gone, the Mancs and Arsenal coming up... if I were to believe Desailly MotD I'd say we were still in the mix for the title. He commented on Liverpool as still in with a shout so surely he would mention Everton in the same vien??? NOPE!!!

If we beat the Mancs it's possible, and turn over Arsenal, then surely we are title contenders. Any other team in any other league would be touted as such. Softly, softly, catch the monkey!!!

We’ll have ’em no-problem. Unbeaten till the end of the season and lift the title against the Barcodes. Can think of nothing better.

Feet firmly back on the ground now Us, City, someone else, to break up this top 4 bollox. Chelsea aren’t all there this season and the $hite are poor. 2 from the chasing pack to push on and knock these pretenders back

Your reasoning is not as flawed as you may think Chris. A lot of results in football are down to belief and confidence. The winning mentality is often as effective as pure footballing talent. We are on the crest of a wave at present and team confidence is at an all time high which is enabling the players to relax and play some proper footy. Untill we test our footballing credentials against the top teams who can realy say how good we are or what our chances of taking the top prizes are?

The games against UTD and Arsenal will tell us more about where we currently are in the pecking order than the past 12 games (assuming they are settled fairly on the pitch and not in some referees biased opinion on footballs hierachy). If we win them (and I am not saying we will) then we have every right to believe we can go all the way.

At this moment in time I am not EXPECTING us to beat UTD but I am HOPEFUL that we can. Likewise I am not expecting us to win the league but I do think we have a good chance of top 4.

It will be interesting to see what team plays at Alkmaar on Thursday. Will Moyes put the reserves out; risk losing the unbeaten run and rest the 1st 11 for Sunday or will he try to keep the run going and play a strong team. Will be a very interesting week.

I hope we play some reserves on Thursday.

1) the idea that we could be in a position to even think about doing such a thing would have been laughable at the beginning of the season! So it shows how well we have done.

2) I would rather Alkmaar got 3 points and qualified and Nurnburg got a result too, so Zenhit get knocked out! And we get Arshavin as a News years present!

3) We have got to play the top 2 at home over Christmas (a time that we normally drop points left right and centre) so need to have the best players in top nick.

They don’t even consider City as a title contender so don’t think they’ll be considering us i’d love it if we broke into that top 4 and Man City with us we are looking good at the mo but as was said above the real test is againt Man U and Arsenal don’t think we’ll get anything at Utd but i reckon we could upset Arsenal but who knows

Stu, I prefer to say ’money 4’ as copied by me off Radio Merseyside. We won’t win the league as our squad doesn’t have the same strength in-depth. In a way you might say we have very good players at the top of their game, but the money 4 have excellent players performing ’well’.

If we could get a point from United I would be thrilled. Leaving Old Trafford with a point is a big accomplishment for any side. However, the Arsenal game is one that I think we should be targeting 3 points from. They are very strong in London, but move them up North and they are beatable. When the weather changes and Arsenal have to travel to the North they struggle. If we can stay healthy we can win that one.

Until we are having these undefeated runs reularly people will not take us as serious copntenders. The seeds are planted however as we are one of only 2 clubs to break the top 4 monopoly in 15 year.
I think we will end up with 68 points by the seasons end which is more than enough for 4th
