The Mail Bag

Some interesting stats

Comments (9)

We have now played 17 matches against 17 teams in the PL so far this season. Against the teams from the bottom half we have played 10 games: W: 9 D: 0 L: 1 GF:26 GA:6 P: 27

That is just enormous! But against the top half we have played 7 games: W: 0 D: 3 L: 4 GF: 5 GA: 10 P: 3

Which is not that fantastic. Though we of course have to improve on this, I`m not too worried. We will because we play excellent football at the moment. And the following stat could explain quite a lot I think:

Games played with Neville in Midfield: W: 3 D: 1 L: 5

Games without Neville in midfield: W: 6 D: 2 L: 0

Anyway its just a fantastic time`to be a blue! Can`t wait to meet Man U, Bolton and Arsenal.

Minor point, but West Ham were in the top half of the table until we beat them!

With Captain Nev at right back now we look the real deal. Hopefully we can get something at Manure on sunday then beat Arsenal and Bolton at home, then we would be right in the mix.

those stats make good reading! I groaned every time I saw the team sheet and Neville was in midfield. He simply has to play at RB (if at all). I think Moyes knows that know, and he’d be loathe to change what’s looking to be a winning formula. Lets not change it, even if he might be tempted to play more defesively against Man U and Arsenal. 2 goo games there and you other stat should start too look a bit better too.

If I’m not mistaken the current run (and Cahills return) includes two well-earned draws, both away, against Chelsea and Portsmouth....the losses to Newcastle and Man Utd (& the Clatterberk/Red Shite lot) were before the run we’re on.......
....so absolutely the upcoming games against ManUtd and Arsenal will tell us just how good we are right now and no doubt tell us where we might (potentially) end up this season. The game against Man City is not that far away either, that will be a key game!

My wife supports ManUtd.....next Sunday morning at 7am could be very interesting for an hour or two!
Also, the team I coach (high school girls competitive) play at 10am........I must have modelled them on Everton as they have only lost 2 games in 25 in the last year!!

Stats are so easy to manipulate. Take for example the one bandied about recently "Everton have not beaten anyone above them this season", this could be taken to imply we are performing badly.

However, Man U, Chelsea, Man City, Liverpool, and Portsmouth are the other teams rounding out the European places and between all of us there is only Man City who have beaten anyone above them (and only on the one occasion) this season.

Does that mean the top six are all performing badly? Or does it imply that the teams above you tend to be teams you have not beaten yet?

Can someone supply me with the stats since Moyes placed Pienaar in our starting lineup? According to my records we?ve won all the games he started in, am I right?
