Two make the Team of the Week!

Comments (5)

From Premier League Team of the Week 17 by Gareth Maher, 17 December 2007:?

Right Back: Phil Neville - Everton

Even with Tony Hibbert back from suspension, Phil Neville retained his right-back slot after a number of impressive displays. He proved to be a commanding presence at the back and an option bursting forward for The Toffees as they claimed a 2-0 away win over West Ham United.

Centre Midfield: Steven Pienaar - Everton

He may be on loan from Borussia Dortmund, but Pienaar has been proving in recent weeks that he is one of the signings of the season so far. The South African playmaker has slotted in perfectly alongside Mikel Arteta, Tim Cahill, and Leon Osman in an attacking quartet that earned three points against West Ham.

Oooookay.. well, Neville did defend well, but his passing as just awful. Hoof it, hoof it there and preferably out of play.

Good on yas, Steven and Phil. Deserved.

I’d certainly like to know who Gareth Maher felt was better than Lescott and Yobo last week? And Yak for that matter?

(are you a soap powder?)

I appreciate Phil Neville is not the best passer of a ball in the world but his pass to AJ for his goal on Saturday was superb! Watch it. He looked up, saw the situation and calculated AJ’s pace would win the day....and it did. For fucks sake don’t assume that every long ball is a hoof! As for most of his clearances going out of play...again...take a look. This is the case with most defenders today, especially fullbacks. It may not be pretty but they are playing for yardage. Give the lad a fucking break. He is doing a good job at the moment at fullback and as a Captain.

Amazing what you can achieve when you put a player in his best position. I just wish it had been the case from the very start of the season!!!

I received a small but welcome rss feed to an article today from a site called soccerlens, The article says that, outside the hype of the Sunday matches, Everton were winners of the week, with the progress in Europe, semi of the league cup, unbeaten in 7 in the league and unbeaten in a dozen matches. It wasn't much but made me happy!
