Abelda?

Comments (20)

Dont want to get all F.M. but BBC website says EFC have interest in David Abelda for 4Mill in January window.

Abelda is a regular in Spanish national team as a defensive mid but has been put on the shit list by Ronald Koeman, Valencia coach ( who won't last the year ). The Spanish national manager, Aragones, says Abelda is the top defensive mid in Spain and will stay a regular even if he sits in the Valencia reserves all year.

Abelda is a player that covers space well, makes plenty of tackles and knits the passing together by always being available to recieve the ball. I think he would be a great buy and may be the best available. views please.

I’d be well into it. Rather have him than Vogel. Although Diarra would be my F.M. choice

Without getting too excited-he could prove to be a master stroke!! If Albelda signs and Aragones keeps an eye on him, Arteta will be almost impossible NOT to be called up!!

Here’s hoping, really looking forward to any new signings now, hopefully Moyes will have a few (1!!) gem(s) lined up!!

A walking yellow card that man. A good player but we’d rarely get him on the pitch even if there were any truth in the story.

Saw on sky sports new last night that valencia were letting him, Angulo and their keeper go, and thought that both midfeilders would be an option. Albelda is one of a bunch keeping arteta out of the spain squad.

Low and behold papers report he is on hisway to us in a four million deal? Gossip makers thinking like myself or a shrewd piece of business for moyes?

Taken from the BBC's gossip colum: Everton manager David Moyes is preparing a £4m bid for Valencia skipper David Albelda. (Various) Anyone know anything about him? Where he plays etc.?

He would be an excellent buy. He is class, it’s just Koeman who is a completely incompetent manager. I’ll take him in a heart beat. He’s good on the ball as all Spanish players are, is physical enough to make it in the Prem, and I’m sure he would strike up a friendship with Arteta immediately, keeping Arteta happy and probably getting him a look in the Spanish squad. All around it would be good business and I hope it is true.

From Wiki....

Albelda is a defensive midfielder who started his career as a centre-back. He is best known for his leadership skills. He has been captain of Valencia since the departure of Gaizka Mendieta. With a solid and robust frame, Albelda makes his presence felt in the middle of the pitch. With Valencia and Spain, Albelda plays a holding role, trying to contain the attacking midfielders of the opposition. He also moves forward regularly, especially during set pieces and is a key figure in Valencia’s counter attack, with much depending on him because of his ability to lead from the front and influence teammates.

I watch the Spanish league every weekend over here in the States, as it is on after the Prem games and my wife is busy in her art studio on the weekend mornings, leaving me free to watch a full day of football. But enough about me. Valencia are often on the television as they are on of Spains biggest clubs and I have seen this guy play many times. While Valencia have been shocking lately this guy is very good and exactly the type of player we want in the center of our midfield. He is only 30 so has a few very good years left in him. We need a player like him if we want to take that old cliche "next step".

He is a world class player in the role of defensive midfielder. If he is available and interested in signing for us, we would be foolish not to make a move for 4 million. With the way players look after themsleves these days, 30 years old should not be considered ancient by any means.

I said this in a different thread but aren’t we supposed to get Vogel (who plays in the same position) in January FOR FREE? Surely then we don’t need to spend 4 million on a 30 year old when we can get someone of around the same age for nothing

Because Albelda is a better player than Vogel, simple as that.

I think we need to spend money on an offensive midfielder. We should take Vogel for free as replacement/cover for Carsley and spend the money on an attacking central midfielder.

David Theroux,

Pls do not compare Vogel to Albelda. David Albelda is a midfield dynamo par excellence with a pure class and he is in a completely different level to Vogel. Albelda has represented Spain close to 50 times and been to two world cups. Remember Nil Satis Nisi Optimum - we should only go and sign the great players to make our excellent team even better.

Fuckoff AZ. Hope Van Gaal chokes to death on his miserable supper tonight, fat pig. As for albelda, Aragones reckons he is the best DM in the business. He dont have a clue that guy he don’t even rate Arteta so I wouldnt listen top any judgement of any player he comments on. Prick!! He’s a good player though lol.

What a load of shite, Moyes would never pay that much for a thirty year old player and David Banks your comment that you are sure Arteta would strike up a friendship with him, has about as much significance as the search for weapons of mass destruction.

I watch the spanish league every week and think Albelda could be a good signing. A lot of experience at international and CL level, and would easily fit in to the team’s work ethic.
On a connected note (or maybe it should be on another thread), the Spanish sports press reckon Manny Fernandes is next on Koeman’s black list.
