Manny again...

Comments (41)

I decided I would love to have Fernandes back. After considering the most recent rumor, which seems a little more legitimate, I realized something. If Moyes ever signed Manny again it would have to mean that the reason Fernandes went to Valencia was a good bit out of his hands. Because we all know Moyes holds a player's integrity pretty high up. So if come January Moyes brings him back, let's welcome him.

Ah! Mannygate again!
I too would welcome him back and I think you’re right, if there was anything amiss about his departure, DM won’t consider him at all.

Without doubt bring him back, we are short in midfield and without doubt if he’d played at old trafford on sunday we would’nt have waned in the final 20 mins.

I’d pay a simlar price to Yakubu for Fernandes, only problem is on the official Valencia website it says (for some reason!?) that he has a 60m euro buy out clause! Also I believe MSI still own half the player so the transfer would seem still wrangled with politics which ultimatley cost us the deal in August.

I’d defo offer Shandy in exchange though to make up the balance of 60m euros!

I just hope Arteta is not involved in any deal!

Full disclosure, Lue and Joey, I’m anti-Manny and have been on the record here forcefully so....

But a couple honest questions here as the tide definitely appears to be in his favour with respect to a return. And it’s cool with me if it’s cool with us ya know? But how much would he cost? Do we have the ready cash? Is he still tied-up with the people who made his Valencia deal? Would we have to go thru the same paperwork nightmare that apparently screwed our deal in the first place?

And I guess foremost of all, what makes you folks think our manager would welcome him back? He’s a Scot, and being half one myself, I know firsthand no one nurses a grudge quite like a proper Scot. And our gaffer is deffo one of those!

I’m not being negative on Chrimbo yas, but them’s some mighty puzzlin’ questions (as they say here in the States, I guess!) Just wondering, and waiting for supper.

I was at old trafford on sunday and somehow we randomly got into a debate with some fellow blues about manny, it was roughly 50:50 as to his acceptance.

Personally I dont know what happened for sure in august but i do know manny was staying in a hotel in liverpool for almost a week waiting for Everton to get the shared ownership deal sorted. No-one has said for sure manny walked out on us, maybe we didnt get clearence or couldnt agree a deal with benfica and msi??

All i know is hes class and all it takes is an injury or 2 and its jags and neville back in centre mid!

Stig, I agree, If DM thinks that anything from the Mannygate affair is still unresolved then he won’t go near the deal. I for one, will trust Davey to make the right decision. If Manny does come back and it’s a VERY big IF, then it will only be because whatever happened that night in August was beyond his control or at the very least, DM knows exactly what happened and is okay with it. I can’t answer any of the questions about money, wages, deals and the like and I doubt that anyone outside a close knit circle of people would be able to answer either.
Like I say, big if and I suspect that there will always be people who will never trust him and so on.
Disclosure Stig? Well, I’ve stated before and will say it again - I wanted Manny as my toyboy...............so maybe I would like him back not just because he can play good football!
Being a female fan of football has some added benefits. I get to see all those lovely legs and bottoms as well as some rather nifty football these days!
Happy Christmas chaps!

What all you Manny bashers out there should remember is that he was 51% owned by the same company that owns Tevez and Mascherano. When a player is owned by a comoany like that they have no say at all in were they play or who they play for. I honestly beleive that he wanted to join Everton. He was training with us for a whole week before he left for Valencia. I dont think he would of gone to a team were he get?s first team football sometime?s, to a team were he know?s only one player that being Miguel his Portugal pal and to a country were he cant speak the language. I hope he comes back and if he does he will come bck a better player for it aswell. He was a class act and had the potential to be twice the player of what Arteta is now. Yet we all no what Everton are like nothing is ever done the easy way and we are always full of suprises. So lets wait with baited breath.

Lue, there are certainly some aspects of the game that benefit you a bit more than a few others!! Love your response and thanks for stayin up so late, girl. Recharge the batteries for tomorrow’s hammering of the PeterKays

I’m not so negative as I was (I wrote ’let him rot’ a couple weeks back!) about Manuel coming back, but again you guys, I just don’t see where the chatter’s coming from, you know? It’s cool, tho. If it happens it does, and as always I support even my postie if he pulls on that royal blue and plays his guts out for us.

But you guys, aren’t we broke? My money’s on nobody coming in this Jan. Don’t read me wrong; I want four or five signings, but I can’t even imagine one after Planet Hollywood payed for the Yak...I pray I’m mistaken!

Still only 1pm here where I am, and no sign of turkey!

Jesus H Christ,

What is wrong with you people. THe man stood us up big time and you want to forgive him.

Where is your pride? I?d rather we sink our teeth in known talent like Scott Parker or Arshivin etc.

Why bother with such a loser like Manny Fernandez

People these days are so weak. The guy humiliated us all over europe with his U turn so any deal would be crazy. Let him rot in spain.

Didn’t Scott Parker rebuff Moyes as well?

11   Posted 26/12/2007 at 09:23:59

If the rumours are to be belived, I would prefer us to sign Albelda - he’s out of the top draw, and a full Spanish international to boot. Hopefully this is the calibur of player that DM wants to bring in, in the future.

Scott Parker? Mr Parker also turned his nose up at us in search of greater fortune elsewhere. I don’t like Parker’s attitude at all but if his purchase improved Everton’s fortunes then I would welcome him with open arms- probably.
In any case I think that it’s all speculation of the highest order. Vogel on a free will probably be our January intake. Hopefully, I’m wrong and we will make a few signings that everyone will be hapy with!

Brian Taylor - I’m with you. We’re short in midfield and when we get a few injuries Pip is straight into the middle. What went on over the summer is done. I think, if a deal can be done to bring Fernandes back, we should be prepared to give him the chance to make us love him again. The manager builds the team and is usually heavily involved in transfers, therefore if he is prepared to give Manny another chance then I would too.

However.... I would draw your attention to this link.

http://www.skysports.com/experts/expert_story/0,19793,12087_2971758,00.html

Scroll down to the e-mail questions at the bottom which highlight the attitude and off field problems that Manny reportedly has and you wonder if he is the sort of character we need at the club. I understand what all the nay sayers think and maybe I am being too forgiving?

There could be mileage in the Fernandes and Albelda rumours as Valencia are definitely a club in crisis, although, again, as Lue said, its all speculation and its more than likely our activity in the transfer market will be low key.

No matter who comes in we must back them and allow them the chance to win us over.

14   Posted 26/12/2007 at 10:44:58

People have got no right to make these remarks if they do not know the full story.......no one does. I wouldn’t call Manny a traitor because I know fuck all about what happened but I also wouldn’t say he didn’t stand us up because guess what I dont actually know what happened.

I personally would rather believe Alan Irvine than our board and Alan Irvine stated that Fernandes always wanted to join Everton but due to contract and third party ownership problems it just wasn’t to be. I’d believe that over both Keith Wyness and Bill Kenwrights word.

I dont see what people’s problems are. Fernandes can’t join our club but Thomas Gravesen and Alan Stubbs can. What the fuck? Stubbs left and bad mouthed the cub whereas Fernandes has never had a bad word about us.

Scott Parker? Dont make me laugh. He puts in a few decent performances and people are all over him. Manny walks all over him as do the likes of Cahill, Pienaar and Arteta. Arshavin? Again this puzzles me. People have probably seen him pay twice and are acting like he’s god’s gift to football. I think Fernandes will be the better player and defo more suited to English football.

How I see it is if a quality player wants to come to our club then go in for him and if he doesn’t leave him be. A the end of the day its about progressing and improving your team and Fernandes wold without doubt do that for Everton. If he wants to come then sign him up.

15   Posted 26/12/2007 at 11:03:19

They way I look at it, is that we offered Benfica / MSI £8 million for 100% of Fernandes.

Valencia offered £8 million for 50% of Fernandes with MSI retaining thier 50%.

It was probably MSI who swayed the decision, Fernades had to go wherever his boss told him to go. That?s the problem with these co-ownership with players.

These rich men pick up these poor kids with great potential from slum areas, dictate thier careers and make money from them.

For all of the traits being attributed to Manny being disruptive I don’t for once remember this being said when he was with us on loan, I do remember it being said he was a consumate pro whilst training and was friendly with all of the players.

We need cover in midfield end of, with Fernandes we have a known quantity which we have all seen playing, as Pienaar and Yakubu have grown into more rounded team players than individuals surely a 21 year old kid with talent can too?

18   Posted 26/12/2007 at 12:46:22

Connor Rohrer,
Don?t make me laugh. What makes you think the same problem we had back then, will not arise now?

Plus, if we spent 8m on Scott Parker, the paper work will be much much lesser than Manny plus we are assured of another talent for England.

Plus, Scott Parker is proven as an effective midfielder this season compared to The Traitor.

What i know, DM will have MUCH LESS HEADACHE signing Parker then Manny.

I also happens to think that Scott Parker is more accomplished and reliable then Manny Fernandez

Trust me on that.

I’ll take Fernandes and Albelda in a heart beat. I would also take Parker if it was a good deal, he’d be better in the midfield than Neville. I’m not going to call for Parker, but if he did come here and he could improve our team then it would be positive. But the two Valencia players over Parker any day.

22   Posted 26/12/2007 at 17:06:06

IF DM were to even consider signing Manny again, it would only be because Manny was innocent of the volte face in the summer, and is hence not "a traitor" (an hilarious concept btw)

Albelda is top class, and we would face stiff competition for his signature.

I think it will be long january of spurious links and disappointment tbh. Any takers on Riquelme getting linked again?

25   Posted 26/12/2007 at 17:23:59

The issue with Manny is not that he turned us down. It’s the dishonest conniving way that he turned his back on us. Everton weren’t just some club who had put in a bid for him. He’d played for us. He already had a relationship with the coaching staff, the players and the fans. Since then the club had bust a gut to sort out his contractual problems in time for the transfer deadline. And he played us for fools and abused out trust. One minute he’s sat in the director’s box at GP telling Wyness he’s going to sign; the next he’s in a plane to Valencia and has made himself uncontactable. The best you can say is that maybe he’s a dupe and his agent is the one who’s pulled the strings; but it was his decision to lie to us and deceive us - noone forced him. Is this really the kind of player that we want ?

27   Posted 26/12/2007 at 18:57:08

Jimmy Hoffa, I didn’t say the problems wouldn’t arise again all I said was I would go back in for him if I was Moyes.

Why Scott Parker? He has nothing on Fernandes. A decent premiership player in my opinion. Fernandes actually has alot more talent and would defiantly improve our squad more. As Gavin said what does England have to do with Everton. I dont care where our players are from as long as they play to a good level. Scott Parker is 27 and will never be and England regular so he’s hardly an English talent.

You should back up you points better. Scott Parker was Charlton’s best player in the season they where challenging for Europe yet he still left them in January for Chelsea. Curbishley was not impressed and felt betrayed by Parker as he admitted when he signed him earlier this season for West ham. Scott Parker is a money grabber. He has played for Chelsea, Newcastle and West ham who all pay the big wages. Do you not remember him rejecting Everton because we wouldn’t offer him 40,000 a week. Hardly the more reliable option.
Stig Meacham
28   Posted 26/12/2007 at 19:13:49

We’re flat broke, you guys. We’re not buying Manuel, we’re not buying Appiah, and we’re certainly not going to tempt Scott Parker from his lavish 80,000 GBP per week London lifestyle. Wise up, people! We might get a loan player but that’ll be that. We’re going to finish the season with what we have. And it’s a good side.

Nothing is going to happen in the coming month. I reckon the sooner we get that thru our thick skulls, the fewer ’dithering Dave’ posts we’ll have to suffer through. The guy has no bloody cash; he doesn’t ’dither’, he’s skint.

Connor Rohrer
29   Posted 26/12/2007 at 19:43:40

Stig, the majority of us know we have no money. I know for a fact we couldn’t buy Fernandes straight out but a loan is something that could happen. The way I look at it is the likes of Fernandes, Diaby and Diarra are players that could come to us on loan. All are supposedly unhappy and none play regular Football for there clubs.
Danny Smith
30   Posted 26/12/2007 at 19:41:34

I for one would welcome him back you just have to think back to some of his play. I suggest it would be madness not to have him back. OK, so he went to Valcenia ? hot weather, Champions League football ? what player wouldnt have gone? Bring back Manny!!!!!!!!!!!!!

31   Posted 26/12/2007 at 20:01:22

Hey Connor!

If there is any one of us that wants eighty-one January signings, it?s me. Believe me! I want em all!

But maybe I?m just setting my expectations low. For the life of me I just don?t see us adding more to the payroll.

Having written what I have up there, if we do sell Jamie Mac (I hope we don?t) I can see a bit freed up for a Manny (or even Huddlestone)-type, but I must think that it?s an outside bet.

I?m hoping the club proves me wrong you guys, but it?s just Econ 101 that unless Robert Earl stumps up again, it?s us against the rest.

Well if Moyes is prepared to take him back I don’t see the point in anyone "not in the know" taking a "hissy-fit" about his return. If he made a mistake & choose the wrong club (Valencia) instead of us, so what? We all make mistakes.

I mean if we were all so perfect, we wouldn’t have started off supporting this load of heart-breakers to begin with!

What people seem to be forgetting is that Manny would cost us in the region of £16m for outright ownership. Even if we could negotiate some reduction on that, perhaps Valencia taking a £1m loss, and MSI accepting, say, £6m, it would still mean a price of around £13m. Or have I totally misunderstood the whole sorry saga?
Gavin Ramejkis
41   Posted 27/12/2007 at 18:04:59

I don’t think Manny would cost us anything but wages come January if on loan with a view to buy which surely the frugal DM will look to do. The contract when he signed for Valencia did have a massive buy on fee but if the manager wants him out then surely that contract would become a write off and a new negotiation would start.
