This is a game we?d have lost a couple of seasons ago with the players we have missing. Well done, boys, a great result and a real confidence booster.

Today’s result was obviously a perfect start to the New Year, but I was even more pleased by the fact that we were able to achieve it without our two most influential players (Cahill and Arteta). It was also good to see AJ on the scoresheet again, and to see McFadden doing himself no harm whilst in the ’shop window’. I think maximum points can be expectd in the league this month. Neither City or Spurs travel particularly well, and Wigan are, to put it plainly, shit. Oldham in the FA Cup should be easy, which leaves only the Chelsea games in the League Cup where we are the underdogs. However, even this tie is there for the taking in my opinion - they will almost certainly field some kids and have a number of key players missing (although so do we to be fair). COYB!!!

No 3rd round FA Cup tie is easy. Oldham are playing well and will dig deep, defend in depth and make it hard for us.
We will win but not as easy as you may think, it is a cup final to them

Agreed James, no FA cup tie is easy. But relative to the opposition we could have drawn, a home tie against mid-table League 1 opposition has got be considered *fairly* easy.

Following on from the dissappointing 2nd half against Arsenal, a win was so important today.

Totally agree Arthur that was a game we would have lost not too long. Nice way to start what hopefully will be a big 2008 for the blues

Great response and two very well taken goals, my only worry was how absolutely knackered Pienaar looked for the last quarter of an hour or so, he ran himself ragged and was starting to make mistakes through exhaustion, he deserved to be subbed a bit earlier.

Boro looked to be edging it in the second half but as soon as the first goal went in they collapsed.

Hopfully Pienaar will have a bit of a rest now, albeit only a week because I think Moyes will leave him out for the FA Cup but we need him for next Tuesday! Well done blues today; depleted squad against a Boro side that has shown a big improvement in recent weeks!

Pienaar is due to go next week to the ANC ? not sure if before the Chelsea game.

Hard fought win today and well deserved. We got through the one premier league game that Arteta was going to be missing from, but didn’t expect to be without Cahill and Yobo as well. The team fought hard in some awful conditions, the pitch was horrendous, but Jagielka did very well once again, Hibbert did his job, and Neville was actually a bit better in the middle today than he has been in the past. I still don’t want him to be our central midfielder, don’t get me wrong, just pointing out that he did an admirable job there today. AJ and McFadden both getting goals as well. No we just need that type of depth in the midfield and its onward and upward. We are now 5th in the league, just behind Liverpool.

Just the kind of game where our work rate and fitness comes in handy. Nevsy in particular, 89th minute, 2-0 up, everyone absolutely knackered on a pitch like a horses’ paddock, and he’s still caning it round closing people down in the opposition half. Fantastic commitment and a great result.

Just back from the incest capital city of the world, with 3 points in the bag. The first half was crap, but what a great display in the second half, made up for jimmy mc and AJ. This team is going places, scratch midfield, Yobo & Cahill not even on the coach, looked shite on paper but they done the business second half get in there lads.

I soooooo nearly went today, the fact I crossed the front door at 7am this morning meant was a right decision (whimp I know) although listening to you guys singing after da match on da radio made me wish I had gone!!

Good result and things looking up, the fact we are being pushed hard by Villa and City is proberly going in our favour... our lads like a challenge! COYB and heres to a great 2008 for our great club and great fans!

Haven’t Oldham got some kind of awesome away form right now? I do agree we should beat them though, Is it just me that’s confused as to exactly when we’ll be missing the African players? As for Mikel Arteta I presume that he’ll miss the FA Cup and the first Carling Semi and be available for the Man City game? Hoping so as it’s the first game i’ll manage to get to this season. Just a shame (I think) that Pienaar will be absent.

Im praying that we dont let Mc Fadden leave, he played the "Arteta" role very well today and i dont see anyone else whou could of played it better! Although wasnt he moaning before about his favourite position being upfront, I see him as a creative midfielder and a player for the future.

Great result today blue boys! Thought it was a nice touch that (after his goal) Faddy pointed to the black armband in memory of Phil O?Donnell - may he RIP.

Chris, I think it’s because you are a sensible football fan. One game at a time. Yes, we’re playing really well, apart from embarrassing defensive errors. I was really worried we might struggle again when injuries, suspensions, and daft African cup competitions started to bite, but perhaps (hopefully!) I’m wrong.

What I can’t stand, though. is idiots who write (on another thread) that we are going to win the League Cup, FA Cup and Uefa Cup treble this year. How fucking stupid. If it’s gong to happen, let it happen, and enjoy it when it happens. But don’t fucking predict it, just one day into the year, FFS!

I may be a bit more sceptical than most but the match I saw yesterday was a little bit weird for me. A disjointed performance (not helped by the rain!) by most of our boys due to the missing creative force that is Arteta would probably show how much we would actually miss him for the next two games. Oh well a win is a win!

Up the Toffees!

Did anyone think AJ was just offside in the assist for McFadden’s goal? There was no appeal and MOTD didn’t pick up on it. Not complaining mind, and really pleased for Faddy.

26   Posted 02/01/2008 at 09:45:20

can i just say the boro fans don’t deserve a prem team.
it was new years day and they were playing a top team that they could potentially turn over because they had so many injuries and were low on confidence after losing 4-1 (us)
it came off the back of a great away result for them (1-0 against pompey) and they couldn’t even come close to getting a sell out!
its disgusting!
every year without fail even when we were shit, we were getting sell outs for a few games (the shite, man ure, arsenal, boxing day, new years day) it was a guarantee!

Dave Trudgeon the same thing will happen to us if we move to Kirkby mate!!!

Empty seats and graveyard stadium. Boro, Bolton etc this should be a lesson to Everton not to go anywhere!!!!

Was afraid of the Boro match after our collapse against Arsenal, but what a great result!
I attended my first live Everton game in my life against Fulham (I am Hungarian), thanks to my girlfriend for that, I really enjoyed it, the atmosphere is fantastic around and inside the stadium - however, if the club moves to Kirkby, I will still want to be a part of that. I think, the sound of the Blues would be the same anywhere.

After watching the game last night, I had such a laugh while thinking about Walter Smith and the team he assembled, do you guys remember the days with Steve Watson as the lone striker? Those days we could not score a goal even if the opposition all fell down to let us through. Compare that with Andy Johnson and James Mcfadden last night, they were just superb by scoring those goals, and to think we have the Yak, James Vaughan, Tim Cahill and Victor also.

Lee I support the team mate, not the stadium; we could play in the Wirral for all I care, I just love Everton

I know that Dave but there is thousand of fans who won’t go to the new stadium and they all love the club and have been loyal to the club for decades.

Most of them would prefer it if the new stadium was in the Wirral at least it’s closer to town than where they are gonna put us!!!

I was very much against the Stadium being in Kirkby - still am from the point of view of moving out of the City and leaving all stones unturned for our darling neighbours, but would comment that Swansea AFC have a new stadium, which was built at Morfa, Swansea, surrounded by a new shopping outlet of KFC, Next. Boots, Marks etc. which does get very busy but it does appear to be working quite well with ample parking space. I think that was one of the main moans about going to Kirkby that supporters were horrified that Everton would be next to Tesco?s and other retail shops. Sorry if I am setting off the whole argument thing again but only mentioned it because I see Planning Permission has been applied for for Kirkby whether we like it or not!!

Don't say it too loud, but on tonights results, IF we beat City next week, we could go 4th IF the RS lose. So close I can taste it !
