Pienaar v Arteta
Comments (20)
With his assist for AJ's goal today Peanut has tallied more assists than Mikky in all competitions. Also considering he, like Arteta, has scored two goals (and we know who takes the penalties), it looks like the our little South African is proving himself a key asset. So my question is, has Pienaar become as important if not more important than Arteta?
I'd say he's as important now and he seems to be the more consistent performer of the two. Arteta still has him beat on skill but that could change too.

He’s probably still thinking ow when he takes them.
and to those who have said he dives, what is worst form of cheating? Kicking or diving?

Do I think Pienaar is better than Arteta........no. I think Arteta is the better all round player but they are different and have different attributes. Pienaar’s final ball is definatly better. Arteta has a tendency to over do it and take on one to many players before the attack is cleared whereas Pienaar just looks up and makes the killer pass.
If we can get a central midfielder in then they will both improve. I’m not one who says we actually need a dominant midfield general. I’d be much more happier with a dictator or ball player in the middle of the park. Someone like Manuel Fernandes. He’s not the biggest but he’s still very strong on the ball, retains possession and can see a through ball aswell as dictate a game, If not Fernandes then someone is that mold. If we get this player then we’d have creativity for both central and wide areas. If we get a natural winger in then there’s always a case for moving Arteta centrally but I doubt that will happen.
Osman is an excellent stop gap and he is a very important player for us but that extra midfielder gives us much more flexibility. The midfielder could slot into the middle of the park whereas Ossie could challenge for both wide and central areas.

Of course, bask in the current success of the team but to say we are a couple of signings away from Arsenal and United is maybe pushing it.
Strengthening the team further will improve our chances of success, that’s a given, but sometimes people forget that football is an ever-evolving game, we may strengthen and so may United and Arsenal for example, does this mean the gap becomes smaller?
I think we should keep our feet firmly rooted to the ground and be quietly happy about what is going on, make how you feel known every saturday afternoon, that’s my advice.
But to say we are moving in the right direction is a tad naive, yes we are doing really well, but weren’t Spurs last season? How many of you actually thought that with their money and the right signings they stood a better chance of penetrating the upper echelons of the Premier League than us? Now look at them!

I was thinking, ?that should play perfectly into David Moyes? hands.?
Afterall, by his own admission, that is how he likes it. ?We?ll show them!?
MOTD is becoming more and more cringeworthy; you either have Alan Shearer spouting nonsense, or Lawrenson and Hansen hiding behind their red tinted glasses.
Notice everytime Lineker (who I don?t mind) mentions Everton, the two either have a sly dig or are really careful about what they say.
Spurs, the only club who can break the top four pssh! Says a lot about Liverpool then, who I?d say are the weaker of the ?mythical top four?.
There?s a top two in my eyes, nothing else. The other two Champions League slots are there for the taking, and at the moment who are the best equipped team to seize it? You wouldn?t have thought so watching last night!

Best African in the league? Please don’t make me laugh. He’s Ghana’s third best midfielder after Essien and Muntari who both ply there trade in the Premier league. There are defiantly better options out there than Appiah.

I do know we own Arteta and while Pienaar is playing like a decent grafter Dortmund are rubbing there hands in glee with euro signs in their eyes.
Hope the price was decided before the loan move was finalised.

Can anyone tell me how it came about him getting the no 20 shirt? Let?s reward him with a permanent contract; good deal and the number 10 shirt for all his hard work and commitment to us, cause we would like to keep him for as long as possible. I?m South African and I know the player pretty well, his the type of player that doesn?t care too much about money, he just wants to play football and would die for the team he represents.
I remember a few months ago I tried to convince guys on ToffeeWeb that he was a great addition to our team, but people just choose to crucify Pienaar long before he even kicked ball for us. Get real guys and let?s support and trust the manager if he brings in players.
