Players starting to take notice

Comments (15)

It seems now players around the world are starting to take notice of Everton and their performances. We must be now seen as an attractive side to play for. Looking at the following qoute when Pandev told a Macedonian newspaper: "I've told to my agent that I'd like to play in the Premier League. Liverpool, Tottenham and Everton are the most interesting sides for me. I'd like to play for one of those clubs."

A player like this looking to leave Lazio and Everton an appeal must mean where finaly moving in the right direction, playing football that people are finding attractive. This is a good sign and let's hope it long continues and bigger and better players declare they would like to be apart of the blue army.

Although I do agree with you that we are getting more and more attractive to players, I want to point out that Lazio have been struggling financially for some time now. If I’m correct, they have a salary cap of about £12,000 a week currently. I guess Pandev and especially his agent do realize that in the Premiership, the big money is to be found... He’ll be expecting to double if not triple his wages with this transfer.

By the way, Andy, do you always read Macedonian newspapers? ;-)

I agree with you Eric,I reckon most of the foreign players look at the prem clubs as a big wage packet.
It’s nice to see though, quality players giving us a mention.Thing is,I wonder if he will still mention us when he finds out we are skint, and can’t pay him huge wages?

It's good to see that players want to join our great club. We're defently moving in the right direction.

Our fame is spreading if a Macedonian would like to sign for us... however, he sounds like another mercenary looking to make a quick buck.

Alexander the Great was a Macedonian - conquered the world and still had time to invent the fireplace.

I hope that the point of all this is that if DM has someone in mind, they are much more likely to sign for us - even for toffee silver rather than, say, geordie gold. We look a much better prospect. Of course, Evertonians would do it for nothing, the rest take cash, even from Manure.

Make no mistake, Pandev is a big player! Definetely a player set to join a big club.

Would we need him right now with other positions than attack seemingly more in need of reinforcements?

Probably not, let’s just enjoy Andy, the Yak, Faddy, Big Vic and JV.

I always get a bit worried when I read a post like this. Fact is when we finished 4th a few seasons back we were meant to have Europe’s finest queueing up to join us - even Howard Kendall said as much.

Fact is, it didn’t happen & until we are in a position to offer regular champions league football we wll continue to be "second choice" for many players.

Keith, just to clear up that Pandev is a Macedonian from the FYROM (Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) and that Alexander the Great is a Greek Macedonian...no relation whatsoever.
In relation to us becoming a more attractive club to big players, Ezquerro had this to say "I have three or four offers on the table, but for now none seem to me sufficiently attractive. I am 31 years old and I do not want to go to just any team." I don’t think a striker, all be it an old one, is high on our priority list anyway....no loss.

Nick.....If you only knew your history!

This is not a political/history debate but if you go back to 1912 balkan wars you will clearly see there is a relation. Somewhat deluded my friend. FYROM is only a very recent name given to Macedonia. There is no such thing as a Greek Macedonian, that is something that Greeks created. So keep the political stuff out of the Everton discussion forums.Keith you are right.

As for Pandev, I will translate the macedonian if we all wish.
