Gosling's a gem!

Comments (24)

Having seen comments on an earlier post regarding Dan being too young, chuck him in the Reserves for a stint, etc... I have seen him play 9-10 times over the last couple of seasons. He made his senior debut at 16, has played 8 times for Plymouth in what is a decent Championship outfit and has scored twice, one of which was a cracker.

The lad has great ability, is pacier than Hibbert or Neville, his delivery into the box is also good and he reads the game well. I have noticed Moyes has said he's one for the future but I believe that was tongue in cheek. He will play a good 10 games for us by the end of this season — he's by no means a "ressie".

I agree with James. I think your getting a little ahead of yourslef there Chris. The lad is just a baby, he will have good time to make his impact. We are a good nurturing club, Wayne rooney was even bled in gradually.
The lad is a good prospect-nothing mre nothing less.

I live in Birkenhead but from 2002 - 2006 I lived in Plymouth and everyone down there raved about him he is meant to be very good and can play right across midfield has played right back for Argyle and I belive at reserve and below he has played right across defence he is meant to have it all - a great future purchase, think he has hell of a lot of potential.

I have just read the reaction to the transfer of Gosling on a Plymouth website. They all seem to think they have done good business in selling him. One post said £1.5 for a 16yo, second choice right back is very good business and went on to say we have been mugged. This seems to be their general consensus.

It?s brilliant that we're in a position to sign quality young players, however I'd rather we loan him back to Plymouth than leave him in the reserves...

Living down westcountry way I have had a chance to see Gosling play a couple of times and its fair to say we have certainly not been mugged! He looks a cracking little player and has really impressed me the two times I have seen him.

We have brought a few kids over the past few seasons, with great reviews but I cant remember seeing any break into the first team bar the kid who come on against AZ. I may be wrong so correct me, but most of them have been loaned out and I think this young prospect will be loaned out. We will soon be at the business end of the season and I cant see Moyes playing any youngsters unless the game is a dead rubber.

I think we have to be realistic here.

He is going to play right back over and above Neville, Hibbert, or Jagielka?

Not going to happen. I predict he will disappear into the obscurity of the reserves for at least 2 seasons before we hear his name mentioned once more. And that will be as a subs appearance in a carling cup game, or to loan him out for more experience.

Look at all the other youngsters we?ve purchased... Vidarsson must have been with us 3 years now before a solitary cup appearance.

I do like the fact that Moyes is following in the footsteps of Wenger but the fact is we cant afford a million here 2 million there when our team is not complete we should get the present completly sorted before hoping for the future ie simonsen 2.2million money like this would help towards a decent right back

I have seen great teams 62/3 champs 66 Cup winners, 70?s champs then the truelly great teams of the mid-eighties all broken up with no sucsessors following on behind to carry on a dynasty. Give DM a chance not only is he building a team for now and the next 2/3 seasons, he?s the first manager we?ve had with vision to build for 5/6/7 seasons ahead.

Well said Peter Rigby. I totally agree with you and look forward to seeing these young lads in the future. Some will work, some wont, but at least we have a manager with the foresight we have craved for so long. Its gotta be better than Gazza, Ginola etc.

I think it?s brilliant this is where our money?s going these days.

Two years ago we would be in a bidding war for Robbie Savage!

All because we stuck by Moyes. He?s building a dynasty.

Darren Bent (who can’t get a game) went for 30 million...and there are those on this board who complain we can’t afford to pay 1.5 million for a kid? Get real, willya? Even if he doesnt pan out, I would fancy a go for 1.5 million. Are we EVER happy about anything? Do black clouds follow us everywhere?
Btw, what else would the Plymouth sites be saying? Remember Tim Cahill from Millwall, Lescott from Wolves, we have the ability with our manager to get talent from the 2nd tier. I think it’s great that we are adding youth and depth to our squad.

I think i’d be happier sitting between the two camps on this one. Yes, he may one day make it or no, he may never do. The important thing is that EFC are still on the lookout for young talent and they are still keen to join us. Realistically we shouldn’t dwell on this news or start making any assessment of his potential.

Let's buy Fernandes so he can play in the Chelsea match in place of Arteta.

Can I correct an earlier contribution. Moyes is following in Ferguson's footsteps ? not Wenger's.
Remember when United went around poaching every top-class young kid.
Then we had the Beckham, Scholes, Giggs etc brigade with associated trophies.
It makes me mad when I think back but hey if it was good enough for them its good enough for us.
I do believe its becoming more of a young players game anyway.
We used to say they peaked at 26/27 now I think its nearer 21 for the top players.

I know a guy from Plymouth and he's gutted so I suppose it's split opinions down there. Sour grapes could be the cause. My only worry over the years we had a lad from Ireland I think his name was Murray or something similar and John Hills from Blackpool who where both gifted players we were told... But with kids there is always that risk.

16 is young but was Vaughn not 16 when he made his debut and scored? if they are good enough they can play some aprt in the first team at that age, wait and see I guess.

Boyle is going the other way, having a trial with a view to signing on loan for the season.
Doesnt sound like he has much future at our club

Wasn?t it Martin Murray who was heralded as the next George Best but didn?t come up to scratch? About the 60?s?
