Good work

Being an Evertonian always comes with a health warning. In spite of our position in the league, winning crucial matches against European opposition, etc, I am always worried when we play "lesser" teams, in the cups.

I just hope when we play Oldham that we go balls out to win and not just try to take it easy, expecting to win. Don't forget they will be playing the game as if their lives depended on it, we should also take that view but with a semi-final against Chelsea looming up, one or two may take the foot off the gas. What is wrong with Yobo and Cahill? There seems to be a conspiracy of silence about their injuries.

James, there is a piece on the OS about both players' injuries.

Surely we should play a similar team to the AZ game, be good to see some of the younger players

Can't see us having any worries...

I?d love to see Vaughan and Anichebe get a run out at the very least. Neither of them have had that much football this season.

The biggest problem with this kind of game is complacency and with young players you always get 100% effort, so there shouldn?t be any issues from that regard.

I would prefer the strongest team possible as another cup run will not only put more cash in the club but keep are great start going.

Wayne I totally agree.

We have two great strikers in Anichebe and Vaughan who aren?t getting much of a chance. What they must think when Moyes plays McFadden infront of them?

Give them a game , just to help keep them happy..... they are a great partnership anyway ....better than Johnson or Faddie

Thank you Joe; this is the first info I have read about their injuries as normally we get told what the reason is at the time.

Dominic; while I agree they should probably play this weekend, to say ’What they must think when Moyes plays McFadden infront of them?’ is crazy talk. They’re both still teenagers, McFadden for all his faults is an established International with buckets more experience than the 2 of them put together.

No offence, but thats a daft thing to say mate. : ))

I’d definitely play Vaughan and Anichebe in this game, not only are they good enough and hungry enough, but they make a good partnership, complemeting each other nicely.

McFadden should play on the left again, as he did at Middlesbrough.

For the record, in that debate I’d put the Vaughan and Anichebe ahead of him as strikers, he’s too inconsistent and I’d take a £5M bid for him this month, as long as I was able to bring in midfielders. We’ve only got 6 and we play a 5 man midfield, as opposed to 5 strikers for 1 position up front.

"I would prefer the strongest team possible as another cup run will not only put more cash in the club but keep are great start going. "

Sorry, only just noticed this comment.

Roy, the point made in the original post is that your ’strongest’ team may take a game like this lightly. Bringing hungrier players into the team who are desperate to prove a point could produce a better performance than if all the usual big names played.

FAO Mike Allison,

Are you suggesting that we sell Vaughan for £5 million? To me he’s our third choice striker behind, the yak and aj and in a few years will be evertons number 9 if he can stay injury free.

Even if we play the reserves we’ll win. Anichebe and Vaughan up front, Oldham must be shitting themselves, how hungry do you think these guys are now? Anichebe thundered a header back up field against Boro like his life depended on it, and he was on the pitch for ten seconds. These guys will terrorise them with their bundles of youth and energy. 4-0.

Paul Wright,

Hell No! Sorry for the confusion, but its McFadden I want the cash for.

I know the media managers at Oldham, I designed their programme for years! Was talking to one of them yesterday about the game. Their No1 Keeper (MARK CROSSLEY!!!!!!) is out, along with up to 6 others.

Should be a shoe in. But we all know better than this don’t we. Or are we going by seasons past when we’ve come unstuck against teams like this. Sure everyone remembers Ratters’ team!!!!!

Should be a good game, They like to play a bit, and we’re playing as good as anyone in the Premier League, (how good does that feel), just can’t believe it’s not being televised. Tons of history between the sides.

Anyone else hear the one about the Premier League money bags team that wouldn’t forego their gate receipts for the other team who might go into administration on Monday?

American owners for you eh... ;-)

I have just read in the times that Liverpool have refused to give there share of the gate money to Luton.

I for one am appaled at this decision, I hope that the whole footballing media and fans now see them for what they are.

Wayne, young players giving 100%... Did you see Anichebe in the Luton game? He just couldn’t be arsed.

It’s often the younger first team players who go into games like this with the mentality, "I’m a first team regular, I should be rested" who cause problems.

I think Victor can spit the dummy at times.

On the other hand, I watched the mini derby a month ago, and Jamie Vaughan played. He was playing it as if it was the proper derby! 110%.

As for the shite, it’s disgraceful I suspect it’s actually nonsense though, there’s a certain amount of good will between the clubs after recent cup competitions, so would think they’ll help them out.

Didn’t Chelski make a gesture last season, giving up their gate for someone?

Let’s hope the RS do the same.1878
