Manny has signed on loan!

Comments (22)

Ive just heard from my very pleased brother that Manny Fernandes has signed on loan until the end of the season.

He heard from his good mate who got it from Prentice at the Echo. I know it sounds a bit like idle "he said she said" transfer gossip, but my brother has an annoying habit of telling me who we have signed before it comes out!

You heard it here first!

Hmmm... so how is your information any dfferent from all the stories yesterday? ? claiming that he had signed on loan? While both clubs are saying nothing? I think we heard that first yesterday, Alex.

I really hope we dont sign this player.

Sure when he was here last he showed glimpses of being a talent but not enough to get that excited over. Besides Pienaar is a far better player.

We have a squad of decent hardworking blokes, we dont hear stories of disrepute at Christmas parties, we dont see Everton WAGS in the papers and most importantly we have tremendus team spirit.

Why risk all that by adding a player to the squad who has already proven has no honour or decency.

In my opinion Fernandes can take his worthless handshakes and drunken nights out and find another club to rebuild his career.

There are some alleged official quotes coming out now, this rumour really has got legs!

Everton’s director of communications Ian Ross says talks have taken place with Valencia regarding a deal for the player.

"He is a great player and could be with us soon," Ross told Antena 1. "I think it will be until the end of the season.

"We are in talks with Valencia and tomorrow we will learn more."

Does anybody find it strange that our Communications guy is talking to the spanish press before speaking to us via the club website?

Take it with a pinch of Salt, Ian Ross is a pretty proffesional guy.

I?m sorry, but I still refuse to get remotely excited until it is confirmed by the Moyes and Co. Teamtalk were running a story this morning saying Everton were in talks with Valencia but now, after just being on the teamtalk website, the story has been completely pulled and off the radar completely!
Either they have pulled it cos it?s not true and pure BS or they have done this because they are UPDATING the story. At the moment, everything is still just pure speculation.

Looks like the story has been pulled from Sky now too.

Looks like we have him back on loan. I have to say I am pleased, but he has it all to prove again.

Believe the lad Micheal. I live in Spain and it was confirmed on national news here yesterday evening. Why it´s not been confirmed here though is a mystery.

For those of you doubting the authenticity of Ian Ross’ comments, follow this link to the Portuguese RTP website. You can hear two audio clips - one from a Valencia rep in Spanish, the other from Ross in English, both with Portuguese translations. This is not made up, groundless speculation.

Oh! And the video clip at the bottom of the report gives an explanation from Miguel (whose party it was when Manu was arrested), suggesting it was racism on a Spaniard’s part, accusing the group to the police that "the blacks robbed my watch". This was on national Portuguese TV Friday evening. It also adds that Manu is flying/has flown to England to re-sign with Everton.

Right Dutch,

because you nailed it when it came to Yakubu being a terrible signing as well didn’t you. And what the hell does Pienaar being a good player have to do with us needing to add more talented players??? I didn’t hear Manchester United saying "well Rooney is already a good player, so who needs Tevez" or "We already have Giggs and Scholes in the midfield, why add Ronaldo?" We need all the excellent players we can get, but I am becoming worried that this was all made up by the agent and then has gone from there. Who knows, all we can do is wait and see.

Pienaar plays wide and Fernandes is a central midfielder, why are the two being compared? Also Dutch, wouldn’t you want both in your team?

Still, though, I can’t help thinking his agent is using us again to tout him around to other clubs.

Jury is still out on Yakubu.

The Case Against: £11 Million.
The Case For: A Few Goals.

I’m giving Yakubu a year before deciding on his value for money.

I’m not doubting Fernandes ability its his attitude that worries me.

I read an article where Cahill said when he first signed how Big Dunc and Stubbs took him aside and explained about the club and the sort of player/man he would have to be to fit Everton.

I worry Fernandes doesn’t have the character or honour to play for Everton. We dont need another AVDM.

The jury is still out on Yakubu???!!!! You say a few goals, try 11 since he joined us. That’s more than a few goals. And his all around play has been terrific. He is much better on the ball than you gave him credit for, holds up play very well and gets the midfielders involved. He finds the open space and when through on goal puts it away. Swallow your pride and admit when you are wrong. And the price tag of 11 Million is not exactly earth shattering in today’s climate when you think that Liverpool paid more than twice that much for Torres. Given the financials I’d say we got a hell of a deal.

So thats 11 goals for £11 million.

One million pounds per goal.

And your happy? Thats enough for you?

Sorry I want him to hit 20 goals this season and repeat it next season.

Then I’ll admit he’s worth that sort of money.

I’m looking long term value not some sporadic scoring spree. Ask me about Yakubu in 2010, then I’ll eat my words if he’s still scoring.

Dutch, Yak has nothing to prove my friend ? he has scored goals for the past 4/5 seasons.

Dutch, I appreciate what you?re saying about the character of a man needed to play for us, there?s no way on earth you?d have thought big Yak would fit the bill, but my god he?s worked his arse off to keep his spot as a starter. And now he even smiles when he plays......

Fernandes would be a class addition, lets not beat about the bush. He has the ability to be top drawer...

Moyes won?t make him a better player, but will make him a team player.

COYB and come back Manny!

How can it be £1m a goal we?ve paid for Yak? He?s on a 4 year contract and, unless he doesn?t score again during those years, his goals to pounds ratio will alter every week or so.

Why do you guys bother talking to someone who argues for the sake of arguing?.

Yak has scored 11 goals midway through the season. the word here is MIDWAY.

About Manny... to be honest, I?m still not too convince with him.. but what do I know... the country I'm in didn show too many Everton games last season, so if you guys say his good, and since its only to the end of the season loan, I think it's good business.

I just hope Valencia ask for the moon @ the end of the season... perhaps they can swap AvdM. after all, his a dutch...

Dutch, you’re a nutter. What on earth are you talking about!?

When was the last time an Everton striker scored 11 league goals before the turn of the year? It baffles me that you are determined to think the worst of Yakubu, however well he does for us. Are you going to wait until he retires before finally giving him a little praise?

Strangely, your inability to accept the fact that Yakubu has been something of a success reminds me an awful lot of Tony Marsh’s inability (in the past) to recognise Moyes’ skills.

Just as you are able to look at Moyes - and his early achievements - and conclude he is a good manager, most of us can look at Yakubu - and his astonishing scoring record - and conclude he is a very good striker.

And that’s a great reason to cut this off... and hopefully stop Dutch from droning on with his usual Yak rubbish!
