Would we be coming on praising the manager to be a messiah had we won today?? No. So why castigate the manager for a freak result that happens every so often. Today is embarassing but it is not the end of our season nor is it the drama or defining moment in our season that some will make it out to be.

We are playing some of the most positive football in years and moving forward so visibly that to lambast Moyes now seems wholy disproportionate. The team he sent out today was unbalanced yes, Gravesen hasn't the legs to play in a 4 and Stubbs just hasn't got the legs full stop. But in saying that, it was a team that 99 times out of 100 would beat Oldham.

With such a big game on Tuesday, had we played the usual 4-5-1 with the usual personnel and won, people would have been in uproar that we hadn't rotated the squad. We've just come through a gruelling Xmas period and today was a one off minging performance. The best way to brush it off is to come away from Stamford Bridge with a good start to the tie and to beat City next Saturday and go 4th. Yes, 4th. If those two things happen, I forsee a brushing under the carpet of this game and we can get on with our best season in years.

The season we finished 4th was based upon so many 1-0 wins and gritty defensive performances but now, in a much more competitive league, we are on a fantastic run and but for a sticky period through Sept-Oct we'd be right up in the top 4 now looking down on the red shite. So let's not go jumping down Moyes's throat just yet.

Thats seems so full of its, buts and maybes, Naill. The fact of the matter is we lost a game we should have won, one everybody expected us to win. That in and of itself merits some post mortem.

Post Mortem? Someone die?

Too much is made of this, maybe its because the FA Cup no longer has the same magic, not sure. But a more important game is happening on Tuesday.

I don’t think anyone would argue that it was a tough, disappointing loss today, but I agree Nick, if we beat Chelsea on Tuesday, it won’t matter.

Today’s result is not the end of the world, but it does show that the current squad is lacking depth and quality. Stubbs and Gravesen are clearly past it, and McFadden is not up to it. We desperately missed Arteta, Cahill and Osman in midfield, as well as Lescott’s all round forceful presence.

The implication is that Moyes really does need to get in some reinforcements during the January window. The midfield looks particularly threadbare. Pienaar is already going, and I cringe to think what would happen if Carsley got injured.

A wake up call. Time for Manny and a couple of others please!

Could not agree more Neil .if nothing else comes from this result any thoughts of keeping Tommy Grav have been scratched.

Get real people.
If Arsenal had put out their whole youth team they would have seen this lot off.
Today was a disaster.
Forget Tuesday the players will be so down after this it will be a one way street especially without Pienaar and Arteta.
I hate to be a prophet of doom but we knew about the ANC, Osmans and Cahill’s injury and Arteta’s ban so we should have brought people in as sonn as the transfer window opened>Vogel was available even as a stop gap he would have done better than the shit we saw today.

Yep, 99 times of of 100 we would beat them, trouble is we only get to play them once. It’s called a cuptie. knock out, sudden death.

This again shows, if it were needed, that we still don’t have the depth, much too many has beens and never will be’s.

Davie, Please Please don’t leave it ’till 2359 and 59 sec on the 31st of Jan.

ACTION THIS DAY!

Moyes has devalued the FA Cup, the greatest knockout competitiion in the world, all for that mickey mouse cup on Tuesday. We used to be feared in the FA cup, with a record 23 semi final appearances, now we are a fucking joke with this numbskull!

Didn?t we all know that the likes of Colin were waiting in the wings for the 1st slip up to attack the manager - Here, Bluekipper etc they will be attacking him - what do you lot do when we have been doing so weel - do you sit there willing us to lose because you hate David Moyes - it must be a miserable way to spend your time and money on EFC - yes wew are disappointed - these things do happen - but to attack the manager who has turned, and is turning the club around is just pathetic.

Ian, so everyone has to praise Moyes because he has done a great job at the club (and this season, he has shown he is a good manager) but, when we lose to a poor 1st division side, at home, missing 4 of their key players, fans are meant to just shut up and say "hey ho, that?s the way it goes?"

I have been one of Moyes?s biggest critics over the years and with justification. But I have been on this site on numerous occasions praising Moyes for the job he is doing this season. You will also find his most famous critic, Tony Marsh, has also done a contribution heaping praise on Moyes.

Also, to say fans are sitting there willing us to lose, just so they can have a go at Moyes, is totally pathetic. If you are willing to accept that mediocre load of shite yesterday, that is your choice, but there are fans out there who are more passionate, and say it as they see it, not because it means they can have a go at Moyes, but because they love the club.

As I say,if Moyes deserves the praise, he should also take the criticism that will come along when we fuck-up in a game, like yesterday.

Ian Seddon, I am getting annoyed with people writing in to this site with shit like this:

"do you sit there willing us to lose because you hate David Moyes - it must be a miserable way to spend your time and money on EFC"

The website is for people who supporrt Everton and that implictly means no-one is willing the team to lose, for whatever reason. In my book, this kind of shite is on the same level as labeling fellow Blues as kopites. It may be acceptable elsewhere but it is not acceptable on this website.

Michael and Brian you have valid points but so does Ian.

Michael you say you are annoyed with comments liek Ian?s but how do you think others feel when the same "core" grounp of Moyes haters go missing for weeks when we are doing well only to resurface when we have a terrible game and an embarrasing defeat?

This is just an example and I don?t want to single him out but when we were having a dodgy start, you couldn?t move for Tony Marsh articlus and post in the Mail Bag, he has been missing in action apart from two articles, one where he gives a small compliment to Moyes and the other telling us that Moyes cannot match the "Big 4"

I am an ardent supporter for freedom of speach but it tickles me that you canstantly have your sly digs at the people that openly support Moyes but are suspiciously awol with the constant stream of Anti-Moyes posts.

Moyes made a mistake with his team selection yesterday but that team should have put in a better performance, there were too many passengers, however, the biggest mistake Moyes made was to believ that his players could put a decent shift in to bet a poorer side.

It was a 50/50 thng yesterday between Moyes and the players but all we seem to hear about is how it was Moyes?s fault, pretty hypocritical really

Tony,I’m all for a good debate, but when someone implies that some fans must sit there willing us to lose because they hate Moyes, is fucking pathetic.

When I heard about the result, I was upset and pissed off. People have been saying Moyes chose a really weak team but would any of us really think it was too weak to beat oldham? Of course not. The team had an off day, as all teams do.On paper, Chelsea, Man United, etc should win almost all of their games. Yet they don?t. Some morons on here don?t seem to understand that the best team on paper wont always win. And that?s no-ones fault.

You should only judge managers and players over a number of games, not just one.People are making all these judgements just from this game (no squad depth, jagielka is shit, etc, etc blah blah). Then when we play well andl Jagielka has a good game again, we?ll get to hear about how he is ?like a young dave watson? and the team are almost as good as the top 4. You can make all these judgements, but none of them are worthwhile if your just looking at one game.

Sorry Michael, and to everybody else who was offended. I should have said, Moyes is brain dead.
