Fernandes is signing today!

Rumours Fernandes is signing today!

Spanish speaking media outlets are today reporting that Manuel Fernandes has travelled to the UK in order to complete a loan move to Goodison Park.

A return to Goodison would provide a huge boost for David Moyes who has seen his numbers in midfield depleted in recent weeks through suspension, injury, and the African Cup of Nations.

Its funny that nsno.co.uk make these claims but don?t back them up with any source. I would like to see sources before I get excited about stuff.

I thought he couldn’t leave the country at the moment because of his nightclub fracas?

I love nonsense like this

I’m not a regular to posting things here, I like the rest prefer to read about signings on EvertonFc.com, but could be some truth in this, my brother lives in Spain and was at Valencia airport this morning. He has just text me to say he’s sure he saw Fernandes there! He’s a Utd fan though, so could be winding me up... Fingers crossed!

I am as unwise as the rest of us, as far as I know he has to appear in court in Valencia on Friday, difficult to get accurate reports on this,as far as I can see nothing here but papers printing rubbish as per usual,we need Manuel(I hate the name Manny) to help us retain possesson as was the case last night, hope it’s true but I’ll believe it when I see him wear 37 again, let’s organise a whip around to buy him, shouldn’t cost much this time, stange he hasn’t issued any denial either, you are closer to it there than here in Dublin, is it true Manuel and Arteta are good mates of the field as well?might help us to sign him on loan till end of season.I am available to fly to Valencia with contract if the club requires it,and my good lady needs retail therapy after the last two games, I need some as well, anyway here’s hoping,I’m still a happy blue!!!! no problems with City on Saturday.

Forget the ’pen in hand’, I’ll believe it when I see a ball at his feet (and a blue shirt on his body). Wishing for that sight very soon after last night’s missing midfield...

Am I the only one who’s not doing summersaults at the thought of Fernandes signing (and I?ll believe it when I see it)? His track record is patchy, he clearly hasn’t done it in Spain (for whatever reason), he has "off the field" issues, and only showed glimpses of excellence in his time in England, but also looked lazy and uninterested at times?sounds more like one of those guys that a club like Newcastle should be interested in.

I know we’re all desperate for a ball playing central midfielder who can "dictate" games, but I honestly don’t think "Manny" will provide this over a sustained period. I think our eagerness to find any ball playing central midfielder who can "dictate" games might be clouding our judgement here. I hope I?m proved wrong.

You’re not the only one Jeremy! I’m pretty indifferent to his proposed return and as I’ve posted before believe that it will only be the route for more trouble in ther future. For me money Valencia want him in th shop window because they won’t risk poutting him in their own team and I don’t think we’ll ever be able to afford to purchase him (given that we’d still have to fork out to purchase the 3rd party shares).
If it wasn’t for the paucity in reserves of our current midfield I’d think a lot more fans would feel the same way too.
I just hope that he can put in a few performances like he did the last time he was here - at least that would be something!

Their source was probably this mornings Daily Post or Echo which both say we are looking to tie up the deal:

In case the link doesn’t work:

AYEGBENI YAKUBU today backed his Everton team-mates to deliver the one thing he craves on his return from the African Cup of Nations ? a trip to Wembley.

The Blues? record signing was in high spirits as he flew out with Joseph Yobo to join up with Nigeria?s squad for the tournament in Ghana, even though the first leg of the Carling Cup semi-final ended in a frustrating 2-1 defeat against Chelsea.

But while Chelsea will be hot favourites to meet either Arsenal or Tottenham in the final on February 24, Yakubu has other ideas and he is confident Everton ? who are stepping up their efforts to sign Manuel Fernandes on loan ? can overturn the deficit.

Does anyone know what happend to Vogel, Moyes thought he was good enough in August, why is’nt he good enough in January? I have said this before, when Moyes comes out with ’I will only buy players who are better than what we have got’ fair comment but surely there are players available who are better than Nevelle, Carsley and Hibbart.

Valencia promptly despatched Fernandes - who cost the same as Banega, from Benfica in August - to English club Everton, on loan until the end of the season.’ Not my words the words of http://www.earthtimes.org/articles/show/171203.html

I’d be happy if he signed. Not over excited like some people but happy that we are boosting the squad which is light both in quality and size. He will improve us without a doubt.

I dont understand why people are getting bothered by us signing him. Its on loan and if he misbehaves, doesn’t perform or has off the field nonsense then he will be sent back to Spain at the end of the season. I’d agree with people if we where buying him right away for money but where not. Its a loan. We test him, see how he does and then decide whether we want to buy him or not.

I think everyone seen how poor our midfield was yesterday. None of the midfielders where positive and just played it simple. We need more players like Arteta, Fernandes, Pienaar and Osman who are going to be adventurous and try and be creative.

Can anyone actually think of a better option who’d realistically come? I really can’t think of anyone we’ve been linked with.

19   Posted 09/01/2008 at 17:02:54

I agree Dan, but I just think they lack a bit of class, we need more than a dogs of war, its obvious we are lacking a bit of quality, and how many more seasons as Carsley got left in him, Neville is a great servant, but I am just making a general statement, there are better players out there, you only at to look at the amount of chances we created last night from midfield, no craft or no player who can win a ball and split the defence with a pass.
Keith Glazzard
20   Posted 09/01/2008 at 17:21:15

For weeks or maybe months now everyone here has been saying we need more strength in midfield. You didn’t have to own a crystal ball when Leon’s injury, then Mikel’s red card came on top of knowing that Steven Pienaar would be missing to suspect that there might be a problem. This run of fixtures was going to be hard no matter what. And its not over yet. The lads are much better than the ’dogs of war’, but they do have a lot of that spirit.

Short term, medium and long, if a player with the quality we know Fernandes has can join us asap and be at least on the bench in a week or two it could make a real difference to our season.

Is there going to be someone who comes on here each day claiming Fernandes has signed? It’s getting boring.

By the way my mate’s a taxi driver and he saw him at such and such an airport wearing a number 37 Everton shirt with dreadlocked hair or corn rows blah blah

23   Posted 09/01/2008 at 17:59:24

In my opinion I don’t think we could go wrong with Diarra and/or Arshavin. Diarra clearly available and more chance now big Sam has gone, plus he wouldn’t break the bank. Arshavin another big sam was interested in, and would surely love a move to the Premiership. He stood out in the uefa game. Get either of these in so we can keep Neville at right back and hibbert on the bench.

MANUEL FERNANDES TRANSFERRED TO THE EVERTON UP TO END OF PERIOD

The Valency CF and the English Everton have reached an agreement for which the Portuguese midfielder Manuel Fernandes will play in the English set as transferred until the end of period. The agreement includes a call option on the part of the British club.

So The offical site of Valencia say the deal was done today, so await an annoucement from Everton.

I am assuming the call option (rough translation) means an option to buy at the end of the season!

The player’s current club Valencia have announced that the midfielder was due to sign a contract on Merseyside today, after flying out from Spain earlier this morning.

The deal is said to be a loan until this season’s end, with the opportunity of signing the player outright for an undisclosed fee.

The signing will provide David Moyes with an extra creative option in the midfield, as the club have been hit with bans, injuries and international call-ups in recent games.

Everton look set to officially announce the player tomorrow, possibly paving the way for his inclusion in the squad for the visit of Manchester City.

I seen Fernanades play a few times last year and was impressed with him, but at times he looked out of ideas. I also watched him play for Portugal in the U21, I thought he looked class at times but who would you compare him with, not a box to box player, not a Patrick Viera, he seems to play right across the middle drifting and picking passes out, Where would Moyes play him when all our mid fielders are fit? Can he dictate the play? Who would you lot compare him to?

42   Posted 09/01/2008 at 19:09:52

I know I’m in a minority, but I would be very happy if we signed Downing. Providing it isnt crazy money ie 8m-9m is max I would spend, he would be a good signing.

He works hard, he’s relatively quick (although not lightning) and he’s level headed. Plus his crossing is sublime. If he cant get past the full back, oh well, Baines overlapping would sort that out. I have seen him beat a few very good full backs however. I think Moyes could get that extra 10% out of him.

Baines and Downing down the left? I’d be well happy with that. With Manny, Tim, Pienaar and Arteta?

Awesome.

YESSS!!! This is looking promising! I?d be over-the-moon if this comes off! Mick, I?d probably say he?s an Osman sort, but with no disrespect to Leon, he has more composure and a better reading of the game.

Looking at a full-strength midfield of Pienaar, Cahill, Carsley, Fernandes and Arteta is incredible compared to the years of putting up with Scot Gemmill and the likes!

Slow down Rupert lets get the manny deal sorted first! People dont half get excited on here although I must admit I'm a little excited myself by this news im hearing about manny. I thought there was too much smoke for there not to be a fire but didnt want to jump the gun. But still the ink is not on paper yet! I think Manny will be moved around a lot like last time and like jaggs was to establish his best position but i think he can do a job anywhere in the midfield. Hes got age on his side so lets hope Moyes can get the best out of him. He could be vital now without pienar

47   Posted 09/01/2008 at 19:26:59

Black Rodney Marsh? fuck me we have signed a clown with Grey hair. I just want a midfielder who can dictate the play, foot on the ball, slow it down and then a quick pass to split a defense, thats how I see him, We are crying out for this type of player and I agree Downing would give us that bit of balance, with Baines down the left. Got to play Lescott and Yobo in the middle, Neville right and Baines on the left, I would like the 4-4-2 at home and the 4-5-1 away from home. Pienar looks comfortable on the left, Not sure about Arteta on the right, think Carsley is well worth a place in the middle. When everyone is fit and back from ANC I think an other addition, would give us that strength in midfield we need to push on.
David Barks
48   Posted 09/01/2008 at 19:37:54

With Pienaar, Fernandes, Cahill, and Arteta in the midfield, who does the defense focus on. If we can start the season with this midfield next season, with Yakubu up front, we are in very good shape.
Paul Simpson
49   Posted 09/01/2008 at 19:46:27

If we get him lets hope he can learn to involved in the game for 90minutes. Now we have a small matter of a few busy weeks and important games without Yobo, Yak and Peanut, I am worried about Jagenelka and Stubbs in the middle of defense, got to get Baines fit and push Lescott back over, Yobo will be missed big time and for me Johnson seems to be a bit of form at times, big month time to stand up and deliver boys.

Just because Fernandes is due for talks doesnt mean he’ll sign. Given his past record dont be surprised if he turns up, gets his lift from the airport & enjoys his free complimentary meal, signs autographs for the fans, makes a handshake agreement and then signs for more money at a different club.

By the way what happened to that young lad Gosling from Plymouth? Wasn’t his deal supposed to be tied up last week? Its all gone quiet on that one.

We can register 3 new players for the next round of the UEFA cup.

One of those players is allowed to have played in Europe for another team.

So yes we can play him in Europe unless Valencia write something into the loan deal saying otherwise.

Hope that helps

I know you’re kind of joking in what you say, but Fernandes can’t negotiate a better deal since this is a loan deal, he’s getting paid whatever his current contract says.
