How arrogant are Chelsea?

Comments (56)

Wow is all I can say. I have just read that piece of 'journalism' on their official site regarding the fact that Everton would benefit from having an option of recinding our right to play out the second leg of the cup semi due to our innate inferiority and snow ball in hells chance of progression.

Well, I'm sorry, but I sincerely hope that the majority of Chelsea fans don't think like that as the reality is that the beauty of cup competitions of this nature means anything can happen. I for one will be at Goodison on the 23rd, baying for the Blues to knock Chelsea out. Make no mistake, we need a Herculean effort to do it, but it would be awesome to be in a position to ram that author's words down his throat. COYB!

Yeah Andy, I like all other Evertonians who read that self obsessed piece of junk, I fail to understand how it gets approved on an official site.
Even mentioning having the option to turn down the return leg is laughable. What the tit also fails to realise is that their star striker ?Drogba? rolls around on the deck every week like he has just been harpooned. Let?s create the atmosphere of Bayern Munich 85, and in Sharpy?s words, ?suck the goals in?. We can do it.

Hi last line sums him up "I’m not sure what I’m sure about" meaning he doesn’t have clue what he’s on about. I hope Phil Neville scores the winner against them.

I hope Moyesey reads it out just before the players take to the pitch before the second leg. That arrogant S.O.B has provided all of the motivation the lads will ever need. Nev to score the winner anyone?

What a load of bollocks that piece is. Let’s see if the second leg is a formality when we have our midfield (less Pienar) intact.

I think someone should print that and ask Moyes to put it up in the changing room and all over the training ground. A few copies around Goodison wouldn’t go amiss.

Let’s see how they cope then.

Well it says a lot about Chelsea. It shows how a little bit of money can go to a person's head. It was nice to see that the history of Chelsea sucess starting in 2006 and finishing in 2007 went on sale in the form of a DVD last year. I can only hope we can add to there missery and to our fantastic history. COYB

I was left feeling slightly bemused by that. He admits himself that he isn’t sure what he’s sure about. An arrogant, over inflated ego with an unfortunate opportunity provided by the official site to humiliate all Chelsea fans who will undoubtedly get sweeped under the same umbrella. There’s only one way to shut him up... and there’s only one thing worse than a bad loser, a bad winner! The Mikel red card is a joke anyway because it won’t affect the second leg, or any league games, instead he’ll be in Africa.

What an idiot. yea let's not bother turning up at Chelsea, we?re never going to get a result against them. Even though we denied them 2 points in the league!

I agree totally with Andy Morden’s comments and also believe, like Steve Pugh, Moyes should post that article on the changing room wall before kickoff.

I write for a fan site myself, and that is the sort of article you would see in abundance. It has no place on an offical site in my opinion, and hopefully Chelsea will live to regret posting it.

My appetite has been whetted in anticipation of the next leg, trailing 2-1 or not trailing 2-1, it will still be an awesome night, one which I have yet to sample at Goodison Park.

To win would be unbelievable, I just cannot wait to be there to see it all unravel.

They’re nothing but a bunch of un-educated cockney birdbrains.

Won far less league titles than us won less FA Cup’s than us. No comparison between the clubs in terms of sucess and support!!

Ken Bates bought them for a nicker in the 80’s!!! Yeh a nicker. When the fuck would that happen to a club like Everton??

Couldn’t even fill the away end at Goodison and they were the reigning Champions!! No excuses that’s grim.

At the game last night no prizes for guessing who is the bigger club. It was laughable. Until that Russki twat appeared they were heading the same way as Luton.

These are the same thick cockney’s that write for the rag’s in Fleet Street saying England are gonna win the World Cup every other year. Norbert’s are living in Michael Jackson land.

One of the most contemptible pieces of "journalism" ever and i hope nothing like that ever ever gets onto our official site. Sums up your average London based Chelsea fan in my opinion, they’re largely an obnoxious breed in my experience and if ever a chant summed up a team’s support so perfectly it’s the "where were you when you were shit".

Sums these pricks up, the Chelsea pensioners, dick head hangers on, never mind where were you when you were shit, what about the 10 000 they used to get in that shit hole. They are the most clueless bunch of supporters I have ever come across, arrogant and fucking clueless. I remember some cockney nob head shouting his mouth off how within 5 years they would be bigger than Barcalona and Real Madrid, seeing they have only won the league fucking 4 times, it would take 25 years to suprass them. Load of right wing middle class pricks, you have only got to see their flags, all fucking St. Georges crosses. Sums them up

Every single Everton player should have to read that piece of "journalism" every day before training and before every game. How pathetic and arrogant are they. And that asshole has the balls to talk about a less than full strength side. Okay, Ballack, Malouda, Cole, Mikel, and WSP. Wow, what a terrible midfield line up that is. We were without Arteta, Pienaar ans Osman having to replace them with two strikers and Neville. An absolutely classless organization, and that is something that many Chelsea supporters would say as well.

I hope Moyes pins it up on the wall and then rams it right down that ugly bastards throat after the final whistle. Majority of their fans are just a load of empty headed fucking yupies, who a few years ago would neve have dared to a match, you see these twats at Wimbledon eating strawberies for a score a basket, toffee nose shit heads.

18   Posted 09/01/2008 at 21:29:52

Well I for one would like to see what this "journalist," has to say if chelsea are trailling after the first leg of one of their ECC ties. Need he be reminded of one of Chelseas greatest nights in their history, when TRAILING 2-1 to Barcelona after the 1st leg to win the second 4-2 to go through 5-4 that second legs are just as important as the first.
(However he does have a point - that game was in the 04/05 season, if the game was over 1 leg Barca would have gone through and probably beaten Liverpool in the semi, therefore no 5-times noncense - this last remark is meant to be sarcastic, I think!)

NB - nice of him to acknowledge we had a severely depleted side due to injury, suspension and the ANC - small minded biggot

Shaun - my understanding is that Berbatov would not be cup-tied for the CL despite playing in the UC so therefore current CL shouldn’t be cup tied for the UC.

ps the CL contains g14 teams so don’t hold your breath on this being the case

I’m convinced now that I’m the only person who thinks that Lescott’s own-goal was a foul. Not just a slight transgression of the laws but a glaringly obvious one!!

At full live speed my immediate reaction was that it was a foul. Because my instinct told me that SWP just can’t leap above Lescott legally.

Then, when I finally got to see a replay it was obvious. Rather than this Chelsea beaut saying SWP rose like Tore Andre Slow he actually jumped into the back of Lescott, then leant down on him and prevented our man from taking the vital step back to let the harmless ball drift out towards the edge of the box.

I don’t think either Howard or Lescott are to blame because replays show that Tim clearly tells Jolly (who has just checked his sidelines and knows that the area to the right of him is safe for him to let the ball run into before presumably rounding and then lashing upfield) to "leave it".

What neither of them banked on was that the little goblin behind him was gonna use Lescott like a pole vault and effectively leave him with no choice but to let the ball hit him and hope for the best!

Lescott, ironically, was rightly leaving the bal, IMO, to avoid the type of clumsy deflection an arcing ball like that can take.

To my mind, as far as illegal challenges on Lescott in the area go, it was right up (down?) there with the Carragher/Clattenburg one.

No-one, though, from a Toffee perspective seems to be complaining about this. Weird.

And from the Chelsea point of view it gets conveniently overlooked and now they continue to bleat about the bias of Phil Walton who was given no option by the routinely dismissed JOM to add to his collection of red cards.

Am I alone?

I have been working in London for 3 years as a spark and do a lot of work around the city in offices and me and my mate, who is a RS, piss ourselves every Monday after the football, you would have to be here and listen to some of the shite they come out with to believe it, honest half of them dont know Everton and RS share the same city, but the best one is grown men have got pictures of Lampard on their walls, and loads of other shit, I asked one of them did he go the game last night and his mate said he’s only just started supporting them and has’nt been the game yet fuck me this prick was in his forties. Come on Blues lets do it this time, no more silly mistakes,no more excuses, just stuck it where it hurts.

Well I agree with you Greg, I found it really strange that the ref didn?t blow for a foul but it was one of the ?Big Four? and they were down to ten men. maybe the ref thought he would let it go, I hate to keep bleating about refs but sometimes it makes me want to scream at the injustice of it. Well with a fair ref (is there such an animal?) and a good team selection we should get a result.

Ok, the article is a load of shite and should never be on an official web site but I think the guy was attempting some humour. Note that his name is "Giles" - sounds like some twat who thinks he’s a intellectual and never quite made it in the Cambridge Footlights.

Most of the comments are over the top and I suppose meant to be tongue in cheek. Still, even if it is an attempt at humour, I think that it shows an underlying arrogant attitude. Anyway, should serve as a good motivational tool for our boys.

I’ve just come off 606 on BBC Radio 5 Live.

I rang them because I was annoyed that the presenter was a (self-confessed) Chelsea fan, and I thought that we went 2-1 down as the result of a foul.

And the Toons were talking about Big Sam - I just wanted to make the point that Moyes/ EFC have done quite well together over the last five or six years.

If I’d have read that Chelsea official site article before I rang - well, I wouldn’t have picked up the phone. I would have been far too angry.

I grew up around Spurs and Chelsea fans and the thing that you guys don?t understand is that many of them are ignorant fucks who know little about football and only go to games because an expensive season ticket is a status symbol for lower middle-class people with delusions of grandeur.

You would never see something like that from Arsenal fans because they like us are real fans who actually feel emotion when their team wins and despair when the lose. Chelsea fans (of whom there were very few prior to 1996 which says it all) get no more excited about their soccer team than they do about Surrey Cricket Club or deciding what sandwich to bring for lunch to the Dixons or Currys they work at as computer geeks.

My point is don?t get worked up about the words of half-wits who probably would think Dixie Dean was a country singer and that Gary Lineker spent his whole career at White Hart Lane.

When the criminal who has funded them with his ill gotten gains moves on, Chelsea will return to the obscurity to which they belong, and will be reduced to the handful of supporters they had before they became a rich man’s temporary plaything. And then everyone will forget about them again. They have never been a proper football club and never will be.

Typical arrogance of Chelsea. Their fans are so new to football they don?t even realise that pre Roman?s millions they were less successful than West Ham, let alone us. Their chants of "Who the fuckin' hell are you?" is the ultimate irony. We?re a club who had won the league 8 times more than them before Bates sold up!

You can?t blame the guy, he just hates 2-leg matches, afterall seeing his side?s pathetic attempts at second legs in the Champions League over the last 5 years of "the special one" resorting to throwing a defender (who has never scored for Chelsea in his life) up front, wouldn't you?

44   Posted 10/01/2008 at 00:47:42

I have just read the relevant post and I have to say I am absolutely disgusted. The official website of any organisation, in this case a football club, is its mouthpiece and should be treated as such. Such an unbelievably crass lack of respect for another club is completely unacceptable and when posted on the official website it becomes the position of those in charge. Therefore it is the same as if Roman Abramovich, Peter Kenyon or Avram Grant had said it.

I would presume this is not the position of these individuals (though I wonder about Kenyon) and therefore the article should not be present on the official site.

If the same article had been posted on a fan site I would still have considered it ill-informed nonsense but the writer would have been perfectly entitled to put forward his view. However Chelsea FC has an obligation to respect all opponents.

The ridiculous complaint that they were weakened would seem laughable were it not for the fact that Sky so blatantly supported it. On at least SEVEN occasions during the match the commentators mentioned Chelsea having players missing without once mentioning that we had two strikers and a right-back in midfield. Poor Chelsea, having to play their £34 million worth of wingers and replacing Lampard with the one-time World Player of the Year-shortlisted captain of Germany. I seriously considered turning off the TV and listening to the radio because I was so annoyed.

I hope we have Arteta back for the second-leg, with a bit of creativity we might have a chance. Shove on big Vic to give them hell!
Steve Carter
45   Posted 10/01/2008 at 01:37:19

Yes, the article is in poor taste and offensive; however, my hope is that it will give rise to an objective reality check. The fact is that we have played three of the "big 4" (or platinum whatevers that Joe Royle styles them as) at home this season and lost every time; indeed, completely thrashed on the most recent occasion - with Arteta, remember (well, for most of the game). Each time, in my opinion, due to lapse of concentration errors. My simple point is: we have a good side that competes with these sides for just about the whole game, until some Pienaar or Jagielka or Yobo or Lescott falls asleep at the wheel for a nanosecond and we’re gone. So, the learned author of this article does have a point: unless and until Moyes can successfully instil the every nanosecond Zen message into every thick skull (and I’m not one who blames Moyes for any of this - it’s not him who split second fucks up), we simply cannot and will not beat any of those 4 and, therefore, we may as well throw in the towel.
Anj Stama
46   Posted 10/01/2008 at 02:38:52

In relation to Greg Murphys’ view, I totally agree it was a foul on Lescott but how many times do we see bad ref decisions and luck favouring the ’big four’ against us(Arseanal,Man ure & liverfool eg). Shame on them also for labelling P.Neville a cheat. If the roles were reversed they would be screaming to bring back the guillotine for Neville. The Chel$ki fans think they had a depleted squad but after appraisal, their value can wipe out world hunger. With Manny F coming back :) & Arteta back by then, I hope we stick it up their arrogant arses. COYB

I noticed today in the 'News In Brief' section of toffeeweb a link to the OFFICIAL Chelsea FC website where you can find a colummists view on the Midweek carling Cup Game v Everton. Heres the link: http://www.chelseafc.com/page/NewsHomePage/0,,10268~1210181,00.html

As already touched upon by toffeeweb, I cannot beleive that such a one sided piece of nonsense can be published on Chelsea's official site!

Chelsea's 'everybody hates us and we don't care' mentality is displayed at its worst by what this Giles Smith has to say. Yes Chelsea played very well and they should be proud, but to degrade Everton, a top 6 side that have already held Chelsea once at Stamford bridge this season and only lost due to a stoppage time calamity on Tuesday is disgusting in my view. Some of the stuff this guy writes is unbeleivable and I urge all Evertonians to read what he has to say. I for one have written to the Chelsea official club website to complain and I hope other blues will follow suit. We deserve better, even from a Chelsea fan!

I know it is hard but if you need to convince anyone that the final goal was a foul look on the OS. The gallery from the tie has a fantastic pic of the incident. I showed it to a Chelsea supporter I work with and even she said it was blatant. Although she is a real football supporter and said that Mikkel’s red card was well deserved.

This is a copy of the e-mail I sent to Giles Smith care of The Times in response to the article he wrote on the Chelsea website following our narrow defeat in the Carling Cup semi final:

Dear Giles

I read your piece on the Chelsea website regarding the midweek game with Everton this week with amazement. I have never read such a biased and frankly idiotic piece of sports writing in all my born days. Firstly, your suggestions for giving teams the choice of whether to play a second leg of a two legged semi-final are at best laughable. The first leg of this tie was played at Stamford Bridge and as such gave HOME advantage to Chelsea, so for your scheme to work there would have to be a neutral venue for the first leg. This of course would have an influence on the outcome of the game. Also, you suggest that this would be a good option where the outcome of the second game would be a formality, and seem to be suggesting that this is the case following a narrow away defeat for Everton which resulted from a fluke own goal. (If you can see far enough into the future to see the score could you let me know so I can put a bet on.)Everton are not the kind of team to roll over for anyone least of all a trumped up Millwall with money like Chelsea, and we are confident of getting a result at home against any side, even one that has spent £100 million more on players than ourselves.

You insult Everton and David Moyes in particular by suggesting that they would walk away from a semi-final tie for fear of being beaten. Someone has to lose in a semi-final, that's the whole point, but until the full 180 minutes are up then nobody has lost. You might well fall on your less than attractive face following the replay, but even if Chelsea do triumph it will not be a walkover and Everton FC will never lie down in any game, let alone a cup semi-final. Unfortunately, Everton will not bow out after 90 minutes, and you will have to go through the "tiresome formality" of playing another 90 minutes of football against a side that has exactly the same number of home wins in the league as Chelsea.

The "tiresome and hidebound" rules you speak of are the same for all the teams in the tournament and it sounds more like you are not relishing the prospect of having to travel up to Goodison Park and play against an attritional team that matched yours at 1-1 until a foul in the area from Shaun Wright-Phillips led to an OWN goal from Lescott. You also fail to mention that but for the foot of the post James McFadden would have given Everton a 2-1 lead in a game where they had a man advantage, which surely would have led to Chelsea pushing forward much more and leaving Chelsea's back line exposed to counter attacks.

I wonder if you were actually at the game? I was there and I saw a Chelsea team dominate despite losing Mikel to a red card that he probably didn't deserve - on that much I agree with you. But Everton did pile on pressure to good effect to pull level with a fine finish from Yakubu, and limited Chelsea to very few opportunities in the second half. The goal, as I mentioned above was an aberration by the otherwise heroic Joleon Lescott.

You finally state that you are "not sure what you are sure about" and this is the only part of your article that really made any sense.

See you at Goodison with your crystal ball 'Mystic Dick'.

I was so angry at that Chelsea article on their official website that I e-mailed Chelsea and told them not only do they have no history, they have no class as well. I also had a guess at what Moysie's e-mail address was at Everton and forwarded it to him. This is what I wrote ;

David, I don't know if this will reach you but this is an article from the official Chelsea site - hope you can use it to wind the lads up for the 2nd leg. Good luck, and hope you stuff them, Danny Broderick

I was delighted to get a reply shortly after saying ; Thanks for that Danny, David has seen it

I was disapointed to read that Chelsea's Obi Mikel will effectively go unpunished for his red card. The powers that be have decided for him to take his domestic suspension when he is away with Nigeria for the African Nations Cup. Surely this can not be fair?

When I read that article on the Chelsea website, I was fuming so much so that I sent an arsey e-mail to them which follows. I'd just had a response from the official site today. My e-mail is first (please note I was very p*ssed off when I wrote it).

"I've just read the pathetic article on your website about last nightsmatch and am shocked at it's content, which ridicules Everton and putsChelsea across as a completely arrogant club. I'd expect to read such an article on a fanzine site but not on anofficial site. I'm not even going to go in to huge detail because you're not worth morethan this brief e-mail. All I'll say is, anyone can buy sucess which is all you've done. I'drather support a proper club with proper fans and roots. Half of yourfans don't even understand the rules and are middle/upper class yuppiescontent with being ripped off by your club. Have you compared Chelsea's honours list with Everton's? Well, you'll see that yours isn't a patch on Everton's. Where were you when you were shit?"

Chelsea Response

"Hi With regards to your email. Clearly the views in the article do not reflect those of Chelsea Football Club but should the article have caused offence among Everton fans then you have our apologies as that is certainly not the intention. Any article has to take into account the writer and Giles Smith is extremely well known as one of the most talented around. His style isbased on an off-beat and irreverent approach rather than causing offense. Kind regards, kayleigh
