Anderson

Anyone know what has happened with Anderson? He has played for Barnsley for most of the season, adored by the fans, and presumably has match fitness. He doesn't seem to feature for the reserves at the moment. Considering we waited at least 6 months for him to get here it seems odd that he hasn't featured.

We actually waited about 18 months to get him but evidently despite looking fairly good pre-season and doing well at Barnsley Moyes obviously doesn’t like him. Perhaps there is something going on behind the scenes that we don’t know.

He was on the bench against Oldham on Saturday but never got on.

He surely can’t have been any worse than our midfield agaist Chelsea.

When he joined the squad in the summer I seem to remember Moyes (or maybe Irvine) saying they would look at the lad to see how he fitted in with the squad.
18 months is a long time in football, and whilst he was obviously a player they thought could improve the squad at that time that might not be the case now. We have strenghthed a lot over the last 2 years and Anderson might simply not be good enough to compete with the players we have.

It may well be a case of when we got him 18 months ago he was at about the same level as our midfield at that time (but unable to play for us) - however the team has come on leaps and bounds recently so perhaps now he is no longer good enough to play for us.

I know I’ve been banging on about this for a while now but it’s the one thing that really winds me up about Moyes. By all accounts this guy could have done a job for us as a kind of anchor role in midfiekld but Moyes has just refused to even consider it. Even Shandy has had more chances than Da Silva!!!

Andy - I didn’t realise you had more dealings with players than the Everton manager.
I would generally go with the opinion of Moyes, who as manager and someone who works with the players all the time, is likely to be a better judge of his ability than yours. Da Silva, is still fairly new to english football, hence he was sent to Barnsley on loan to learn about the game a bit more. This doesn’t mean he won’t play for us eventually, just DMs opinion is the time isn’t right yet.
Ossie went on loan for a season or 2 before he ever got a chance in the first team, why should it be any different for Da Silva nobody said we signed him as an instant superstar 1st team player.

I would go with Moyesy’s opinion on this. he works with the players everyday and im sure kept an eye on Da Silva when he was at Barnsley. Plus (and no disrespect to Barnsley) it is a bit different playing well for Barnsley in the Championship than starting for a top premier league club.

Chris, Don’t follow what you are saying chum. I wasn’t saying that I knew the players better than Moyes. What I was doing was questioning the fact that Everton spent some 18 months trying to sign the guy, put all the effort into the original transfer fee, the work permit, the loan deal to Malaga etc only to bring him in on a short term contract... and then gibe him ANOTHER short term contract at the end of that. Where is the sense in doing that since we therefore make a LOSS in the guy at the end of it without even seeing if he’s good enough for the prem
Also, Ossie was on a long term contract which is why I hadn’t compared the two.
Finally, Paul I’m not sure your comments make sense since some of Moyes better siginings have been championship players.....Lescott, Cahill, Johnson etc
Just think the guy should be given a chance......
