Porkies?

Comments (20)

" David Moyes knows nothing of a reported move for Manuel Fernandes. Friday's Daily Mirror claimed that Everton were keen to sign the midfielder on loan. Fernandes joined Everton in January of last season on a temporary deal and enjoyed a successful six-month period on Merseyside, but then surprisingly joined Valencia in the summer. But the Portuguese hasn't figured regularly for the Spanish outift and rumours of a departure have surfaced.

Moyes, however, was bemused by suggestions of a move for the player. 'I didn't even know that,' he said of the rumours. 'Have I? Not that I know of!' The Blues boss added that while no transfer activity was imminent, he was looking at what players might available. "

This is a quote from the OS on Jan 4th. As I think, Michael Kendrick commented when the rumours resurfaced, someone is telling porkies. While I am very pleased that the rumours are true and not David Moyes's response, does anyone else think our manager needs to be careful how he expresses himself, particularly on the OS?

I don?t think he said that exclusively to the OS. It was a televised interview before the FA Cup game.

I actually think he was trying to keep a lid on things, and then Valencia?s agent broke ranks, forcing Ian Ross to come out and say stuff. Which he then refuted, but was heard on audio.

I don?t think you can blame the manager here mate, although I?m sure you would like to. I personally believe he is/was playing his cards close to his chest as last time it was announced he was signing, and we all knew what happened next.

I think a lot of people came on here, I know I did, and said that Moyes had made very similar remarks before we eventually bought a player. He was trying to keep the competition down but it really was too late for that, I just don’t think he expected the reports from the agent to get picked up the way they were. I think it all goes back to getting Sissoko snatched from under our noses. I sure as hell don’t give a damn, as long as I see Fernandes in an Everton shirt again and this time for the long term.

Amazing, absolutely amazing.. does it not occur to the writer that if Moyes is looking at a player it?s odds on another club will also be looking? therefore why would he give any indication of what he?s doing or who he?s looking at.. Unfortunately managers have to say something, so what if its utter claptrap, as long as he gets his player.. it?s job done!

I think it is shameful of David Moyes. He ought to have said that there was a deal on the cards about Fernandes, and alerted every other agent and club that a hugely talented player might just be on offer at a fraction of his price Valencia paid for him in the summer. Yes be careful in the future Mr. Moyes ? we must make sure that the other clubs and players agents aren?t put at a disadvantage. That just wouldn?t be cricket would it. By the way, Mr. Moyes , isn?t it time you told Sven your team for saturday. Surely he has a right to know and prepare himself. FFS !

Michael Kenrick, you must be a mind reader!

Although, I do feel that people have a point. It pays to play the media.

For God’s sake Michael, what else could Moyes have said when he got the question? Perhaps "I never comment on transfer speculation" would have been better, but even that would have suggested that probably we were in again for Manny. There are cases when ’disinformation’ coming out of the club is rightly to be deplored. But this is surely not one of them.

Eric - I would like to help you get a new job.

I am a buyer and I so wish you were the salesman for my suppliers. Because on the basis of your complaint about Moyes then you would tell me everything I needed to know about your prices and availability of materials and I would make such huge savings I would get promoted.

Now then - - - Ronaldo is wanted by Madrid, let us tell everyone it will be £75m, and that is where the bidding starts. If we keep quiet they can bid £20m and then we reject it but the player can start to make noises to go. Eric, you need to learn how to negotiate.

It is fairly obvious that you are not in this line of work - which for me is a pity. So better go off to the office and meet with guys who don?t tell me everything and make my job of beating them a bit harder.

Not strictly a lie. Moyes said he knew nothing about the reported move for Manny. That merely shows that he was not privy to information regarding the reporting of the move for Manny.

Thjink about it ... how many players have been pinched under our nose by higher offers of transfer fees, loan fees and wages? This time Davey played his cards close to his chest....well done, my son!!

He likes to keep things quiet. If you go on saying ’we’re going to sign him’ and it never comes to fruition you look like a tit a tit and get articles like the one that Jon Livesy wrote. Also it alerts other managers i.e. Sissoko. Best off waiting till all sorted. I’m with Moyes again on this one and think your moaning about nothing.

Yes Moyes has been found guilty of dissimulation - shame on him.

What he should have said when asked about Manny was:

Yes, we are interested in Fernandes and we invite any other club who is interested in this skillful exciting player to offer a competitive tender....

It comes to something when one of the ’usual suspects’ has to use this as a stick to beat Moyes..

Pathetic

Whenever we express an interest in players, another team invariably muscles in. The press are scum and deserve to be lied to.

Jus playin the game is all.....DM is very media savvy and good on him - you don’t see Alex Ferguson or Arsene Wenger shouting their mouths off about players they’re interested in.

It’s a deliberate deception. And he didn’t need to do it. All he had to do was to say that he’s refusing to comment on transfer rumours linking Everton with various players.

Good to see this has been responded to sensibly, some people really do need to get a grip of reality.

it is common sense, especially given what happened last time, to keep a lid on things until it is a done deal. Remember the stick we got for Sissoko ? again people being ridiculously naive to believe that guttersnipes over the park honestly had no idea of his availabilty until he saw it on our official site.

Well played Everton for handling this move so well.

Moyes is learning to play the big boys way. Good on yer Davey. Just make sure there’s no cock ups this time.Adding Manny to the presnt first choice midfielders will definitely make us better with more top class players fighting for places. Just a thought though, If we’d got Manny last Summer and paid top whack, would that have meant no money for Yak? This way we might get them both and for less money too. I think this could work out very well? Is Manny available for UEFA? If all this comes off we have to thank Mr Koeman for being such a nice man.

I suppose I could have expected this sort of reply, given the lack of integrity in so many aspects of life these days. The gist of your attitude is ’it’s OK to lie as long as it’s in your interest to do so’ so why if that’s the case does everyone rightly berate Bill Kenright for a similar approach.
There’s a big difference in my book from making deliberately misleading statements and merely refusing to comment. A reply such as ’it’s not my policy to comment on speculation’ would have sufficed.
Besides, anyone who was seriously interested in Fernandes may have been more likely to pursue if they thought Everton weren’t interested. It was his availability which was the key and that was already in the public domain.

Manny played in the Champions League for Valencia this season but that doesnt affect his eligibility for the UEFA Cup. He can play for us in Europe this season basically.

Eric, what planet are you from?
?No comment? is tantamount to saying ?he?s expected on the next plane actually?
We are at last learning tp play the media game.
Our neighbours gaffa said he ?had no interest in Sissoko? when asked by the Echo just before he hi-jacked him....and probably his best one ?the idae of Robbie Fowler returning to Liverpool is laughable?

Get a grip Eric, what is the point of this article?

Are you aghast with the deception that is now evident in the game that is football?.....ffs, have a look at Fat Sam and his agent son and Stretford’s purjury and then come back and get all high and mighty on us if you want.

Little white lies are common place, just ask the missus when she asks me if her bum looks big in this....

Pathetic dig at Moyes mate, pathetic
