Sky Sports News Reporting

Comments (13)

I have read various articles on this site over the past few weeks regarding the Sky Corporation focusing on the big "4" + Newcastle easpecially in Sky Sports News articles. I hadn't really made my mind up as to whether or not they simply concentrating on the bigger stories or if they had a different agenda.

Last night i witnessed the worst piece of journalism on the Sky Sports News Channel

10pm: First Report - "Sam leaving Newcastle" (fair enough! Big story!). At the same time a two-line report in the small box at the bottom refers to Manuel Fernandes's medical at Goodison tomorrow (today) ? Great, I thought, there will definetely be a piece on this coming up... Second report: "Gary Neville Returns for Reserves" Fair enough... Man Utd Captain returning from a longer injury. So I watched. He had scored a goal and made a tackle against Everton Reserves. Cut to video footage ? No mention of the score either verbally or on screen apart from the the score in small print on top left of screen as it was broadcast on MUTV.

The first clip they showed was Gary Neville's goal. Everton were 2-0 ahead at this stage. No mention of this. No footage of the Everton goals. No mention of who scored the goals. The next clip showed an Everton attack thwarted by Gary Neville. End of piece.

I wanted to know the Everton scorers and had to go on the Everton website to find out. What a crap piece of journalism.

As of 11:15pm, no piece on Fernandes ? surely a loan signing of a portugese international and £12mn player is worth a brief article!

Off to bed I went ? annoyed!

Because we dont suck off the press as many other clubs do; because our players don't hang out with whores leaving night clubs, because the players conduct themselves like proffesionals, and don't go bitching about contracts, and fellow players, and the fact they hate the manager, that is why we never get any coverage. Maybe boring but thats the way I like it. If you need info on what goes on, view this site and Everton's official site.

I’m afraid, as angry as this makes some people, we’re gonna have to get used to it.

For all the good sky have done for the game in terms of coverage, money etc they will do things that piss us off no end & they will ALWAYS give preference to the sky4 (better than the big 4) beacause these are the teams involved regularly in the champions league in title deciders year in & out cos they are the money spinners.

Fuck them anyway!!

Don’t forget Sky were actually asked to pull the Fernandes story when they ran it a couple of days ago - so, who can blame them for not making a big deal of it now. Maybe the club doesn’t have the greatest press team.

I think the Sky4 is definitely more accurate. That encompasses the Big3 + Liverpool, who often head up the chasing pack.

BBC website also reports the return of the mercurial ,exciting ,charismatic G Nevile without even mentioning the score.

For all you SKY bashes out there. You need to be a touch more realistic.

The news story was about GAry Nevilles come back form a long injury, so why should they care about the score or scorers in a reserve fixture - they didn’t give the name of Man Utd other scorer either did they! THe story was about Gary Neville - end of.

As for manny, what were they supposed to show. It was mentioned in their transfer news section that he was coming for talks - but as nothing was completed - there was as yet no story.

I think a number of people on here need to get the chip off their shoulder. It is SKY TV not Everton TV - therefore it targets its audience. do’nt get all upset everytime an Eveton reserve game doesn’t get mentioned or a possible transfer iin’t given extensive coverage!

Yes - you are right Chris. The only thing I have against them is that every night they give coverage of Fatso Beneathcontempt and his daily press conference -it’s always when I am about to have my evening meal around 6.00 p.m. Fair puts me off my grub seeing his gob!!

Most people on here slag off the Everton site and suggest that the comment on it is as worse a case of spin as NuLabour.

Equally, to have a media team and communications set up headed by Ian Ross - is there any wonder Everton’s media image is so poor/ almost absent?

I may be alone in my views but if we had taken points of United at OT, beaten Arsenal at GP and drawn/beaten Chelsea at SB for sure we would have been in the news more often, even if the headlines were:"United dopped points";"Arsenal undone by gritty Everton";" Injury-strucked Chelsea hold to a draw/beaten by organised Toffees"

We simply dont give them anything to think about, with our mistakes-full capitulations against Sky4 teams and I for one cant blame them. We have to force ourselves in the news, we have to break the monopoly, we need media exposion - we cant do it with our nearly-there performances against Sky4.

Start getting decent results, climb the table and the attention will come - now Everton are just one of the also-runs - cruel but true

Bit uncalled for that wasnt it? You were obviously raised well speaking to a woman like that!!

As for your original post Chris, no-one wants or expects Sky to post every jot of info about us (thats what this site an others are for) we dont even expect them to show as many of our games as them for the obvious reasons. We do expect a bit of parity when it comes to news sites......chelsea signing a 12 million pound mercenarie is all over it before he has even spoke to them (Anelka btw) yet a 12 million pound player on his way to us just makes the ticker???
Turn it in you clown, go back to your own site where you belong.

Did anyone else get the Radio Times this week? Two articles in it on the Carling Cup match vs Chelski, how they got to the final last time around, and how they were performing under that Grant bloke. Not a single mention of their opponents. Not even the name.
