Moyes Linked to Newcastle Job
Comments (53)
Just seen on Sky Sports, there has been a betting surge on Moyes to take over at Newcastle. I cannot see that happening myself, I hope its just a case of the media linking everyone to the job.

By the by, I would be hugely, nae massively surprised if Moyes went to Newcastle.

Newcastle fans on 5 live last night hoping for Mourinho. They’re kidding themselves. What decent manager would want to go there. Even twitchy head harry doesn’t want it.

I’d imagine his wage would be significantly higher than it is now too?
I don’t personally think he will go, but if I was the Newcastle chairman surely yuo’d have to conisder Moyes.

If this is bookie-talk then jeez it means bugger all, they just want our money ffs!

Can we stop talking about this now please.
11 Posted 10/01/2008 at 13:04:07
No chance Moyes will go there.

13 Posted 10/01/2008 at 13:01:35
Klinnsmann 40/1
Pearce 40/1
Coppel 40/1
Keegan 33/1
Ince 33/1
Houllier 33/1
Venables 28/1
Mourinho 25/1
McLaren 25/1
Although some of these names are ridiculous, I would of hoped Moyes would have bigger odds than most of these.

I think there?s a greater chance he will move on at the end of this season if we end up winning nothing and finishing outside top 6. His currency is pretty high right now and if he can?t see improvement he may decide to move on.
18 Posted 10/01/2008 at 13:18:02
He’s got a stable job at Everton, who are slowly improving and building for the future.
Newcastle is the most insecure job in football, and too much work needs doing there - it’d be like him starting all over again.
19 Posted 10/01/2008 at 13:21:10
Moyes will be signing a new contract in the very near future so that he can carry through on the second 5 year plan he discussed and agreed with the Everton Board last Summer. Long term contracts for Arteta, Tiny etc. were a part of that, as were the development and purchase of youth players for the future, not forgetting more quality purchases, like the Yak, Pienaar (he will be bought) and now Manny.
Whilst Tony Marsh and a few others might be delighted for that plan to be torn up with Moyes departure, they are in a minority as far as I’m concerned. The day Moyes leaves is not a day I am looking forward to.
20 Posted 10/01/2008 at 13:43:04
Kevin Keegan?? He retired from football totally and has been quoted as such.
Jose Mourinho?? He’s not even allowed to manage another PL club this season as part of his contract with Chelsea!
Its full of bullshit - ignore it.

Moyes may be a lot of things, but completely stark raving bonkers he is not.
And oh yeah, Newcastle fans would be really thrilled by a manager whose first priority would be to stop them conceding goals and to shape up or ship out their lazy prima donnas.

Mourinho allegedly had an agreement in regard to the compensation he received from his early contract termination.
This, if true, is reversable in a number of ways. For instance, the financial fine of going to another PL club could be picked up by Newcastle? Any alleged agreement is unlikely to be protected by law or the FA.

I usually respect your opinion but HK was outstanding as a player and manager, DM isnt!!
The only thing that fell apart was HEYSELL and HK?s alleged drinking problems.
If only Moyes could deliver half of what Kendall did we?d all be delirious but I believe he?s just a good above average manager.
As to the rumours it does your contract renewal negotiations no harm to be linked with a money no object poorly performing team to get what you want does it.He is a canny scot after all.Thought you were getting off for something to eat anyway!!
32 Posted 10/01/2008 at 14:33:44
He’s a good manager who has stabilised and started to move on a big club which had been under-performing. Of course they want him...
33 Posted 10/01/2008 at 15:01:42
Alex - the compensation package I believe is around the 20 million mark. I doubt thats likely do you!?
34 Posted 10/01/2008 at 15:06:48
erm.....
DOH!
However....Ever since the day Rooney left nothing would surprise me!

36 Posted 10/01/2008 at 15:26:06
The reason our side fell apart was players wanting to play in Europe which wasnt an option at the time hence Gary Stevens & Trevor Steven going to Rangers & Linekar going to Barca coupled with the fact that the Rat, Sharpey & Sheeds didnt produce the quality due to advancing years and a fondness for the sauce!! ha ha. Cant blame Kendall for that mate!! (well the sauce possibly!!)

Apparently the latest word around the toon (according to 'sources') is that David Moyes is now a serious front runner for the Newcastle job now that Big Sam was sacked. What gives them the right to assume that Moyesy would leave EFC for NUFC - that poisoned chalice club with over hyped supporters who boo their team off the pitch week in week out, with little historical achievement, in a one club town?
Lay off Newcastle, and get back to appointing another hoof ball, dirty minded manager who (allegedly) accepts bungs. Redknapp anyone?

Newcastle fans have a collective head stuck firmly in the clouds.
Reality is that leaving Everton for Newcastle would be a substantial step down in pedigree and heritage.

Mind you, without mentioning any names, I?m surprised a considerable number of contributors to this particular site haven?t been on spouting "typical Kenwright. We have the opportunity to get rid of Dithering Davey, this imbecile with no tactical nouse, and, as usual, he messes up and stops it happening. SACK THE BOARD"
Maybe they?ll wait until our next defeat to crawl back out of the woodwork.

Hey Site Manager Guys. What gives?
Not really bothered, but I thought you might like to know that there is a bit of a programatical glitch. Well, fuck it, anyway, if anyone is offended, I suppose!
I have a serious aversion to this PC b*******s of putting fucking asterisks in naughty words... Come on, lads and lasses, who exactly are you protecting with this garbage? Obvioulsy people (unlike me) who care to actually count the twating things to figure out which bloody word you couldn't bring yourself to write in full. Do you honestly believe your kids don't know those words? And what's the first thing they are going to do when they see one?
English is a fantastically expressive and supremely rich language, an argument some use to claim that the use of expletives is a sign of a limited volcabulary. I see it more as an appreciation of a particularly durable Anglo-Saxon trait. There's no doubting the lasting authenticity and incredible flexibility of some of those ancient words. Death to fucking asterisks!
ps: Let's be having your full name too please, Andy!
52 Posted 11/01/2008 at 03:51:11
Appy Arry is going there.
Relax boys I couldnt think of a more appropriate manager to staeal a few more millions from the treasure chest while achieving mid table mediocrity.

I've lived in Newcastle for 6 years now and am getting pretty annoyed with the torrent of abuse aimed at the people of Newcastle. Some of the comments are just pathetic stereotypes and coming from the fine residents of Liverpool, a city famous for its shell suited curly black haired scousers who would rob you soon as look at you stereotype is pretty ironic to say the least.
Living in the city I can tell you the following... these are not my opinions but fact!
1) The toon army are a passionate group who care greatly about their team. Despite them being starved of sucess for 60 years they still regularly fill one of the biggest stadiums in the country.
2) Newcastle United have the potential to be a massive club. They have a huge dedicated fan base which stretches way out in to surrounding counties like Durham and beyond.
3) Given the right manager, who is given time and money they could break into the top 6 on a regular basis, and challenge the top 4 (along with ourselves and spurs).
4) Yes they are living on past glories (arn't we to some extent?) but they had a great team under Keegan and the title race was a hell of a lot more interesting back then, thAn it is now.
I don't believe Moyes would consider the job or any other job bar one of the 'top 4' (excluding liverpool of course, who I dont believe he'd ever manage due to his love and respect of our club), but i'm getting annoyed by the sad stereotypes being thrown around by some people on this site.
Yes were a bigger club if you look at trophies, history etc, but Newcastle United are still a potentialy good team who could easily challenge us given their resources, excellent stadium and huge fanbase.
Let's show a bit of respect for the Toon army even if their team is doing crap at the moment.

It struck me last night, watching Sky, how important the betting world has become to their news delivery. Another aspect of their coverage that strikes me as utterly crass... but of course it fits with the FM mindset. I guess I'm losing the battle here...!!!
Aside to Lyndon: couldn't we make some money running our own "competitions", charging a small fee (wager) to enter. Who will be the next to sign... Place your bets!
