Stubbs moving on?

This is a hunch... but do you reckon we will get Van Buyten on loan then Moyes will offer Stubbs the Assistant Manager's job? I know it's a bit of a long shot.. .but I would favour that. As much as Stubbs's experience on the pitch has benefited us, he can bring that on the training ground now. It would be a great move in my opinion as Van Buyten would be an ideal replacement as well.

Van Buyten... I mean is he any good? City had him on loan and didn't want him(?) Now Bayern don't want him?

Is he just a oridinary player with a fancy name therefore the press say he?s great? I can?t recall did he play against us while he was on loan at City? I can?t remember watching him.

The other thing.. do me need an assistant manager? Taff?s team talks before and at half-time are known within the game as being absolutey fabulous... is this a coincidence with our great results since he has been on the bench??

I?m asking questions rather than making statements!!

Van Buyten played almost all games for Marseille in 2,5 seasons before moving to Man City, John. At City, he failed to impress. But the last three seasons before this one, he was a regular in the starting-eleven of Hamburg and Bayern Munich. It’s only this season that he does not play as often as usual. Last season, he played very strongly for Bayern according to Wikipedia.

If he really was this hyped player, he wouldn’t get that much games I guess. Bayern are a very, very big club. To get a player from them who recently didn’t play all matches does not mean he won’t do a good job for them. Howard didn’t play at Man Utd either, and I hardly would call him a bad signing.

I am against Stubbs getting any senior coaching role at Everton. He needs to learn his trade and make mistakes somewhere else. What we need is an experienced world class coach preferably foreign to give us an added tactical depth and introduce a new way of thinking on the training field. A situation similar to Carlos Queiroz and Ferguson at ManUre would be great.

I remember seeing Van Buyten when he was at City on loan and he looked solid..He looked commanding in the air and decent on the ground and I am sure if you visit any website from that season of 2004/05 covering City match reports they will tell you the same.. Stubbs has been a great servant at Everton but the days of him playing at Premiership level have reduced now..Its impossible to ask him to play against top quality strikers of today and get away with it..The last thing we want to do is hold on to a player so long that he then becomes a villain of the fans because he has lost it..I am not saying that would happen with Stubbs because he doesnt play regularly enough and probably wont again but the same thing happened with Kevin Campbell and to an extent Weir and Dave Watson..Keep players until they are of worth but dont force a bit out of them that they no longer have..

Stubbsy's presence in the dressing room and at training is part of the reason there is a well known ?togetherness? in the squad at Everton. Alan returning from his spell at Sunderland coincided with Everton regaining form that season when we were in the middle of a very dodgy spell. I?m sure David Moyes will do the best for Stubbsy and if he thinks a coaching spot at Everton would be to both parties benefit then I?m sure he?ll be on board. He has already looked after the rezzies this season.

I think Stubbs will be offered the Reserves job with Holden getting the job as Asst Manager which he is fulfilling succesfully at the moment.
Stubbs will remain on the playing staff until the end of the season as cover and I wouldnt be surprised as part of the Reserves job he registers as a player for emergency.
Anyway thats all theory but it makes sense to give Holden the job.

Van Buyten would be good back-up to what we have now which is only 3 recognised centre backs (minus Yobo for the time being) so if Jags or Lescott pick up an injury in next couple of weeks, we are knackered!

We are being linked to Wes Brown aswell, maybe on a free at the end of the season! Whoever we sign, this will be Stubbs last season as a player for us. I am sure he will become a coach if not Assistant Mananger though.

I agree with Dan, Stubbs (or anyone)needs to learn and home their skills from lower divisions for a job like that, like Dave Watson did at Tranmere.... hang on a minute, Dave Watson Assistant Manager, Everton FC?? I like the sound of that!

Stubbsy as Reserve team coach and Andy Holden to be the assistant manager.Let’s not forget that it’s twice we let Alan Stubbs go and we were left to regret our mistakes.
He was told when we was a youngster at Everton he wouldn’t make it in football - hopefully by someone no longer on the Everton coaching staff !!! And of course we certainly missed him in the first part of the 2005 - 06 season.
Yes perhaps he does need to learn the "coaching trade" - but why not do that at Goodison as reserve team coach ?

I have to agree with Kev C. If Assistant Managers are to be selected from former players then Dave Watson has given much greater service and loyalty than Stubbs. Having said that, I would prefer someone from outside the family who would be responsible for increasing the technical skills of the players (that would exclude Unsworth and other hoofballers from applying).

Keane apparently keen (no pun intended) to take Stubbs back to Sunderland if he is available given the shambles that is their current central defensive partnership.
If the money is right - and lets face it, he could have Sunderland over a barrell if he wanted - then it would be an ideal move for him in my eyes. A nice nest egg so to speak.
