The Mail Bag
The Assistant Manager's position.

The arrival of Manny this week hides the fact that we are still waiting to fill a crucial role at the club namely the Assistant Manager's job.
Andy Holden at the moment is doing a good job however there are rumours going around that Stubbs may get the job full time. He?s a model pro and has the respect of the full squad and is a bright prospect etc. However, I am against Stubbs getting any senior coaching role at Everton. He needs to learn his trade and make mistakes somewhere else. I?m not saying never but I?m saying not just now.
What we need in order to make that next step is an experienced world class coach preferably foreign to give us an added tactical depth and introduce a new way of thinking on the training field. A situation similar to Carlos Queiroz and Ferguson at ManUre would be great for Everton. Moyes said he wouldn?t rush this appointment I just hope he gets it right.

I?m not being funny or malicous or anything like that at all. But what did he do at Bolton that Phil Brown before didnt do better?? So my questio stands, what makes him ?brilliant???
Couple that question with the fact that he is a kopite & I have to disagree with your suggestion Hoggsy..

If he wanted to bring in an international coach, I would have no objection at all, but not because we are in need of tactics and training ground ideas. There’s not too much wrong with our club that a few billion roubles wouldn’t sort out, but I don’t want EFC’s soul sold to any mafia.
Alan Stubbs? Couldn’t he go off to another club’s coaching staff ’on loan’ for a while to come back with the experience he might find useful?

The situation at Man U is different, Fergie’s number twos always take training and do the drills whereas at Everton Moyes is heavily involved with doing that himself, now if he is looking to get away from that then that is one type of assistant he needs, on the other hand if he is looking for a general number two, who would supplement the work he does himself he has to pick somebody who’s opinion he trusts & has similar footballing views to himself.
If that is the case then what makes Quieroz better qualified than Stubbs?
On a final note, whats wrong to promoting from within?? If Andy Holden has done the job required & has the respect of the players (which apparently he does) then give it to him in reward for his hard work and performance in the role to date, freeing up the reserve managers role which I know Stubbs has had a go at.
