Thank god for Blue Bill
Comments (50)
As I read daily of the troubles at Liverpool and Newcastle , the mountain of debt at Manchester Utd and the vulnerability to foreign political influences at Chelsea and Manchester City, I thank God that we have just an`ordinary guy` as our principal owner and Chairman.
Whatever his shortcomings ? and I know there are those who are all too keen to point them out ? in Bill Kenwright we have a man who not only eats and breathes Everton but was shrewd enough to choose a manager who could make the club great again and then let him get on with the task.
Not for Bill the daily knock at his man via `sources close to the chairman`or the veiled threats when things were not quite up to expectation, only the calming assurance that in Moyes we had a man who one day would rank among the greats of his profession. Very few of us now doubt that that time is not far off and most would say that Moyes is second only to Kendall in modern Everton achievement.
However, if Bill had not been the calm and discerning man he is,and had listened to the `Goodison Faithful`on many occasions during the last six years, Moyes would have been toast, no doubt well on the way by now to making Newcastle, Man City or Middlesbrough great instead of our club.
So thank you Bill, from the bottom of my heart, for being sound, single-minded and most of all a far better judge than most of your club`s supporters. Long may you continue to be so!

Bill Kenwright deserves massive praise for that. He’s trying to balance ambition and raw emotion with financial realism, anyone who doubts that need only look across Stanley Park at the car-crash waiting to happen. To have a Chairman and Manager so obviously and viscerally committed to my club, is a good feeling.
The more negative contributors to this forum (and there are some who make it their life’s purpose) should listen to the thoughts of people like Wenger and Ferguson. These are two of the very best managers, not only in England, but in the world.
Ferguson reckoned that Everton, under DM, had by far the best chance to break into the so called big 4. He based this on an overall assessment of the club, its leadership & management, and a team-building philosophy that sees us fielding some of the finest young talent anywhere. Lescott, Arteta, Cahill, Osman, Pienaar, Howard, Baines, Vaughan & Anichebe are all better & more valuable now than they were. Throw in the likes of Yak, Johnson, Yono & Fernandez and, hey, I’m happy.
In fact, I feel blessed to be an Evertonian because when we win something big (and, despite the influx of Russian oligarchs and south-east Asian money launderers, I have no doubt we will) it will taste sweeter than the sweetest honey. It will not come out of expectation or some perverse idea that "we’re a big club and deserve the best", it will have come through hard work, intelligence and genuine feeling for the club.
We were VERY unlucky recently against the top 2 teams in this league. We are almost there. Imagine this, in a short space of time we could be sitting in a CL place, homing in on the UEFA cup and at the new Wembley. If rumours are to be believed (and there seems a grain of truth in this one) we may even have one of the most skilful and exciting players in Europe (Arshavin) in our sights. So, fuck the negativity, just pinch me!
Love & peace to all blues.

His track record as Everton chairman is pitiful.
Before any of you say it was Walter Smith who recommended Moyes to Everton not Kenwright’s sharp IQ.
And another thing before you say he’s always provided Moyes with money it’s the club’s money not his own that he’s borrowed.
He tells more lies than Fleetwood Mac

Sacking a manager after 24 games and holding talks to replace your current one in secret is a sad state of affairs and shows that these new rich owners aren’t always the silver lining first thought.
8 Posted 15/01/2008 at 16:16:06
Perhaps an international money launderer with several arrest warrants out for him?, or a Freddy Shepherd with a revolving door for the manager?, or a Hicks & Gillette dream ticket?, or anyone with loads of money, regardless of where it comes from?
"His track record as Everton chairman is pitiful"?! - Explain how you came to this assessment.
I think in your case mate it’s time to attach the electrodes of intelligence to the bollocks of ignorance.

Collapse of the NTL deal 20 Million spent without the deal being concluded.
Public battle with Peter Johnson regarding takeover when he was all but going round the Whimslow doing a whip-round to aquire the club. Embarrassing.
Getting the doorman to read out to the press that Kendall had left the club for the third time. A Doorman.
Another public battle this time with Paul Gregg dragging the sorry financial state the club was in through the national papers. Great reading that was.
"I wouldn’t sell Rooney for less than 50 million". The minute Man U come in with a double figure bid Kenwright shat himself and was done up like a kipper by UTD. Club was ripped off again.
After selling Rooney looking straight into the camera’s and saying "yes new signing’s are on the way deffo cross my heart and that sh*te" Window closed no new signings.
Fortress Sport Fund headed by lifelong Everton fan Chris Samuelsson who couldn’t name at the AGM who scored the winning goal in the 66 Cup Final. After waiting for the massive sum of 15 Million(watch out Madrid, Barca) for over 7 months this fairytale vanished into thin air.
Ending Everton’s association with our home city and keeping some of the most loyal fan’s in the country in the dark about all aspects of the move. Him and his board’s conduct during that whole process was unforgivable in my opinion. "I don’t want to be remembered for the man who sold Wayne Ronney and the man that took Everton out of the City" He’ll go down in history alright.
F*ckwit no Alan i’m very educated as it happens and I know bluffmerchant when I see one. By what the f*ck he supports Everton so let him F*ck us over and take us for Idiots he’s a blue so who cares??

"Good" is, I admit, a subjective term. But I have always (despite his short-comings & too often (in the past) wearing his blue heart on his sleeve) believed in BK’s intentions. The simple fact is we had no other serious options. Would you seriously have been happy for Paul Greg to run your club?
Your memory of the Rooney affair is flaky or disengenuous. First & foremost his head was turned and he wanted to go (fact). He mistakenly (& stupidly) blamed Moyes for releasing info on him to the press and made it crystal clear that he would go anywhere (even Newcastle) to get away (read his own auto-biography, it’s all in there).
Everton and BK were faced with a disruptive little shit that was worth a lot of money but not, sadly, the £50m that we would have loved to have demanded. The blind truth is, it was felt that Chelsea might enter the bid for him and, had that happened, he would have gone for more than £27m. However, to slag off BK for getting £27m for a teenager is, frankly, double-bollocks. With only 2 bidders we got a good deal, in fact a great deal.
As for the Kirkby point Neil, well, despite having numerous relatives living in the town it would not have been my first choice either. But you, like me, don’t have to balance commercial reality and economic conditions to your fantasies.
And that’s the thing. We all want bigger and better but, oddly, someone has to pay for it. The "owners" of Liverpool were mortgaging the club to the skies to pay for their little palace. We have neither the cash nor the cachet. So it was never going to happen.
If we spent the next 5 years winning trophies, including at least one league title and going close in the champions league then, yes, in 2013 we might have a case for generating the cash to drive a new stadium closer to Liverpool city centre. Life is never simple Neil. It’s about decisions, often hard ones and often at the wrong time. Bill Kenwright has made a tough decision at a tough time.
Forget Fortress and Kings Dock. Every club has their skeletons. Everton is on the up in the most important way, on the pitch. if you deny BK any credit for that then you’re just plain mean. Goodison needs replacing now and we don’t have the cash, or the space, to do it. The argument has been won.
There’s bitterness in your comments Neil and, frankly, there are far more important things in my world to get angry about than my club moving its stadium a few miles or a chairman showing that he’s as human as anyone else.
Try and enjoy the moment Neil. Life’s too short and, having lost my mother, father and little brother very recently (all Evertonians by the way) I know this to be true.
Love & peace.

? Collapse of the NTL deal? Was BK personally responsible for the dot.com crash at that time? NTL were already sponsoring such clubs (from memory?) as the Barcodes, Leeds, and the two Glasgow clubs. The company had to be completely overhauled as a result. Stating 20 Million was spent without the deal being concluded is a complete fabrication.
? What public battle with Peter Johnson? After Duncan was sold behind his back, Walter Smith gave the board an ultimatum? and very, very quickly the Hamperman sold up and rode off into the sunset. By all accounts BK mortgaged himself to the hilt to ensure stability and continuity in the control of the club. Embarrassing, or commendable?
? Getting the doorman to read out to the press that Kendall had left the club for the third time? Whoops! PJ was still chairman at the time.
? Another public battle this time with Paul Gregg dragging the sorry financial state the club was in through the national papers? BK?s fault? or Greg?s for his opportunism in the wake of Euro 2004 and the Rooney saga?
? "I wouldn?t sell Rooney for less than 50 million"? Spoken like the fan BK is. Sadly, the harsh reality of the situation is that the Barcodes bid for him a week before the transfer deadline, which alerted United. All attempts to retain Wayne ? make him club skipper, the highest paid player in the history of the club ? were rejected. The kid wanted to leave. He had no intention of signing a new contract, had just 18 months left on his existing one. The club HAD to take the money.
? After selling Rooney looking straight into the camera?s and saying "yes new signing?s are on the way". Window closed no new signings? More fabrication. Everyone knows the deal was done with just hours of the transfer deadline left ? no time at all to bring in new recruits.
? Fortress Sport Fund and Chris Samuelsson ? who is the real culprit here? Who failed to deliver? Samuelson, or BK?
? Ending Everton?s association with our home city? Tell that to Kirkby scousers.
? Keeping Blues in the dark about all aspects of the move? There was a ballot and information freely available.
I?m surprised you didn?t mention King?s Dock, Neil. What an open goal you missed!
14 Posted 15/01/2008 at 18:50:25
"by all accounts BK mortgaged Himself to the hilt" whose accounts are we talking about lad ?
The Rooney deal proved how out of his depth he was, The arl women on Greaty market fruit stalls woulda got a better price for the most sort after talent in the world, than BK got from the richest club in the world.
The fanbase is more divided than at any time in the clubs history - on BK’s watch
Try buying a ticket by dialing the club box office, then let me know how you feel when the phones are not manned but the games way short of a sell out come kick off time
Yes BK appointed Moysee, but only by taking the advice of a man he was ousting and believed wasnt good enough - luck or Judgement
Then you sneer at Neil for missing the opportunity of mentioning the Kings Dock, I think you’ll find it was such a monumental fuck up he didnt feel the need to mention it
I love whats happening on the pitch, but want better service all round off it too. you and the rest of the "mustnt grumble" brigade are the biggest obsticle to that

16 Posted 15/01/2008 at 19:54:46
Only one man will be responsible, he gave total loyaty to Leahy not the fans. Kenwright.

18 Posted 15/01/2008 at 19:43:32
Why does the Rooney deal prove how out of his depth he was? I believe even now it is a world record fee for a teenager.
Now you throw in a few observations of your own. ’The fanbase is more divided than at any time in the clubs history’. I take it you are alluding to Kirkby. Yup! Passions run high on that one, but since the ballot (unprecedented in business practice, let alone football...) people are united in the core interest of EFC - the football. It is natural and understable that emotions run so high on the stadium issue. It is also perfectly understandable, IMO, that as the incumbent chairman of Everton Football Club that BK has to take really tough decisions into the present and future well-being of the club. And whilst there has been a lot of fierce rhetoric on the matter, I don’t hear of house-burnings, tar and feathering or hangings around the streets of the city...
Marketing and ticketing does seem to be an issue and needs improving.
Bit simplistic of you to believe that BK appointed Moyse ONLY on the advice of a man he had just sacked. Could I ask YOU... whose account are we talking about, la’ ... ?
Do I sneer at Neil for failing to mention the Kings Dock? I rather think I give him - and you, possibly - a stick to beat BK with.
At least we can agree that I too love what’s happening on the pitch. Don’t quite follow your comment though that I and the rest of the "mustnt grumble" brigade are the biggest obsticle to progress at the club. In my experience optimism serves you so much better than negativity and pessimism.
So... a pretty flimsy post by you all round really Dave.

Not being BK’S accountant you cant give me any sort of breakdown let alone a detailed one, you merely embarress youself by making foolish stabs in the dark
read the details of the Rooney deal, Manure accountants are probaly still laughing
You dont hear of "house burnings, Tar and feathering or hangings in the city" ? you’ve been watching too many cowboy films lad, every day I hear life long blues saying they wont go to Kikby thats real - very real - division, however, there’ll be no riots, no fighting in the streets, just gutted sell outs, who’ll never admit they voted yes, when the Kirkby farce becomes the latest fuck up
Good service comes from possitive people like me who demand better
shite service is the result of negative people like you defending it and whining "theyre doing their best"
like I say you and the negative mustnt grumble brigade can feel very free to accept shite
us positive people never will

Kenwright is dammed if he does or he dont due to the paranoid conspiracy heads.
He’s not the best but he certainly aint this despot that wants to ruin the club which some how the wackos have got into their head.

Despite the improvements this year we?ve done nothing yet so Moyes who I think is a good average manager cannot compare to Kendall Catterick Royle and the previous mangers who won trophies with football that was admired the length and breadth of the country.
However as to Bullshit Billy the same people who now think the sun shines out of his arse were probably calling for a new board 6 months ago so at least we are consistent and base our views on factual history and performance rather than he?s a true blue.
One often missed point is how Johnson was paid 20million for his shares and miraculously Everton?d debt rose by 20 million at the same time - a not uncommon thing in company takeovers but it proves the point that BK ( who was and remains a really good friend of Johnson?s) did not put his hand in his own empty pockets>He even stuffed his then friend Paul Gregg who did nothing more than help his friend financially and then found out how incompetent he was at this game and wanted a change. The list goes on about his incompetence at best and cheating at worst but hey we are only realists and should "fuck off and support the RS" for wanting better.
28 Posted 15/01/2008 at 21:31:30
We can agree to disagree but i cannot bring myself to have any respect for that man because he is the absolute pits in my opinion. What he has done and what he is still about to do to this club and you know what i’m referering to yes Kirkby. I’m not really going to go into one about the subject but the whole Kirkby debate was carefully minipulated by the board and they totally dismissed all possible alternatives and had no interest in listening to anybody that wasn’t in agreement with this deal. It stunk to high heavens. That aside all the best to you Alan and take it easy mate.
Art Greeth if you are going to make childish sarcastic remarks first read very carefully before you shout your mouth off. I never said Bill Kenwright was the Chairman when these incidents happened although he was for most I said he was on the board of Directors during these events which correct me if i’m wrong was all on his watch. Director, chairman it doesn’t make any difference these people are the top of the tree no???He has been just as responsible as anybody else on the board for these fuck up’s.
In reference to your statement that Kenwright has mortgaged himself to the hilt, so tell me when he decides to sell his stake in Everton are you telling me he won’t double his money??? While he’s done that and having a good laugh at our expense we’ll be stuck out in the country with a half empty stadium. What a legacy
29 Posted 15/01/2008 at 22:04:39
Everton are fifth in the league, in two cups, have probably the most respected young manager in the British game, and the strongest squad for twenty years. Relative to most of our serious competitors (Arsenal and ManU excepted) we are not in continuous crisis, with crazy, ignorant, criminal or corrupt owners making their clubs embarrassing laughing stocks. Indeed we are very widely regarded now as one of the most stable and best run clubs in England. Our dear neighbours’ owners are publicly undermining their own manager, and are not even sure whether they can pay their debts, or whether they will sell up already.
But the Everton owner who has presided over all this, despite his mistakes (which of course he has made), is the pits and an absolute disgrace. And I suppose we should hope soon that he is replaced by an owner more like those of our fellow clubs?
Utterly bizarre.
30 Posted 15/01/2008 at 22:26:16
Moyes is the main reason for the sucess at Everton lately and the players. Not Kenwright.
31 Posted 15/01/2008 at 22:36:15
Compare our posts. It isn?t me being childish, sarcastic, loud and offensive. But your last post reveals what REALLY pisses you off about Bill ? the stadium issue.
And should Bill ? heaven forbid! (irony warning, Neil?) ? sell up and double his money (or more) might it not be an indication of the perceived value any new owner places on the club and evidence that Bill has done a good job and made it a viable business? How hateful for you, eh??
But what does a namby-pamby, apologetic sycophant like me know, eh Neil??
32 Posted 15/01/2008 at 22:37:41
Neil Pearse, for some reason the fears of the no voters goes straight over your head. All you can see ahead is new stadium, 50,000 attendances, and silverwear. The no voters can only see disaster, and that will be down to one man only.
We all had the chance to make him look at other options but you lot blew it.

Now I have no problem with any one posting what the hell they like on here, but if I perceive it as mistaken, I will - and do - challenge it. This is what I’ve done in this thread. How presumptious of me...
And from where I’m sat, nobody, but nobody, has countered my counter arguments re: BK.
Loud repitition of their original view - yes.
Petty name calling - yes.
False presumptions about me - yes.
But real engagement in honest debate - no.
Cummon guys. Back up your convictions with solid facts, not blinkered opinion.
40 Posted 16/01/2008 at 09:21:23
There really isn’t alot of point because you know exactly what response you will get.
I for one will always be grateful to Bill for what he has achieved since the fall of the Johnson empire. If anybody bothers to compare the situation the club where in in 1999 and now, you will see the obvious improvements.
Nobody has said Bill is perfect (I am sure he is far from it), but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t deserve any credit for anything.
He gave the EVerton job to a fairly inexperienced manager from the lower leagues (Ok he was recommended by Walter Smith, but so what, he didn’t have to do what Walter told him to did he?)
He stuck by Moyes when a section of supporters were calling for his head.
The club is now on a much firmer financial footing than it has been for a long time. Johnson gave Walter £20m to spend by borrowing the money and then needing to sell players within a few months to pay it back)
The club is 5th in the league, in 2 cups and widely regarded as one fo the most difficult places to play in the premiership and one of the best clubs outside the top 4.
Oh and for those who still rate Davey behind Joe Royle - ok joe won a cup but - Claus Thompsen, Earl Barrett, Marc Hottiger etc.
1 cup doesn’t make a great manager!

We know through Bills snippetts of info he drops from time to time how long ago this started. Surely the most successful retail company in these isles can sucker a luvvie.
Therefore Everton Footlball club missed the boat on the new money and investors splashing around from after the latest TV deals.
No doubt Bil is sucking his thumb over this as much as we are sucking our thumbs over the move to Kirkby. Teaches the lying bastard a lesson.

Rooney sale - the lad wanted to leave. True. Billy also needed him to leave - hence the lack of photographs of Rooney in our merchandising catalogue that season, the cancellation of his family box, and the laughable leaking of the "highest paid player in our history" contract details. {A three year deal where the "highest paid" part kicked in at year three!}. Oh, and who leaked the Rooney in a brothel details to the press days before his departure?
Kings Dock. Fortress Funds. The holes in the accounts. The lack of accountability and blatant question dodging at the AGMS. I could go on, but you get the picture.
We’re doing alright football wise, but I’d argue thats more despite Kenwrong than because of him. Because even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

Alan Kirwin says:
"If we spent the next 5 years winning trophies, including at least one league title and going close in the champions league then, yes, in 2013 we might have a case for generating the cash to drive a new stadium closer to Liverpool city centre"
He starts with an admission that this is nothing like ideal, hence the ultimate desire to eventually push for a city centre site. What if we win nothing in Kirkby, and are then hamstrung by debts? What if the fans then stop going, fed up with the added inconvenience of a park and ride scheme that hasn’t even been shown to be viable, or of a pitiful public transport provision? What will are future prospects then be if our attendances crash and are forever considered the out of town club? How will this affect future generations of our city-based fans. Goodison Park exists, it is real, it’s ifs and buts can be resolved, we know how it works and that people can get there relatively easy..... It’s tried and tested to the tune of over 100 years. There are far more imponderables with Kirkby. They can’t/wont even tell us the final cost!
47 Posted 16/01/2008 at 13:24:58
I am suprised that you have not started to campaign for only Scousers playing in the team as well.
Goodison can?t be done and Kirby is up the road. Shut your stupid bleating mouths and grow up.
48 Posted 16/01/2008 at 14:20:05
Rob, any need?
"Goodison can?t be done and Kirby is up the road. Shut your stupid bleating mouths and grow up."
Who is bleating? What an outburst, what does it really mean.... I voted YES so all please shut up now!? Of course GP can be redeveloped, a stadium already exists there, and several people including stadium architects have shown otherwise already. Kirkby is only a few miles away, but it undoubtedley less convenient, with less public transport, and it also sits beyond almighty bottle-necks that are not compensated for by any of the proposals...... hence the insistance on a Park and ride/walk scheme that requires over 100 buses/drivers when Merseytravel struggle to produce half a dozen for soccerbus. This is a 2 team city, what other business would desert the middle-ground, leaving it to his competitor? BTW I’m not a member of KEIOC, just a concerned Evertonian and Shareholder, and there were far more like me at the AGM! Shame you can’t respond to any of the points made.
49 Posted 16/01/2008 at 17:59:44
One city one football team.
Their plan is coming together.
50 Posted 17/01/2008 at 12:38:18
There have been many times over the last few years where the general consensus on ToffeeWeb was that Moyes should go. Unlike the Newcastle chairman, Bill didn't listen to the fans but backed his own judgement and look where we are now.
I agree that Bill is a pratt and I cringe whenever he makes a comment ? but history will show that he was the chairman who saved Everton. Yes he told us lies about potential investment but he has backed Moyes substantially in the transfer market and made funds available.
It wasn't long ago that Liverpool fans were delighted that they had new owners.... they didn't care who they were or what they believed in, all they were interested in was cold hard cash but now look at them. I for one am glad that Everton have a true blue in charge ? one of us ? who knows the traditions and history of the club, who stands by his man and will do everything within his power to make us successful again.
