FM Alert!! Best 11

Comments (37)

Just wondering now what all us Evertonians think our best starting 11 is (assuming everyone is fit and available to play). In the past its been easy to pick our best 11, but now there's one or two that I'd be loathed to leave out, but have no choice unless we can get away with 12 or 13 on the pitch at once!

Although our squad needs growth in certain areas, when we have the rare luxury of a fully fit squad, difficult decisions have to be made. 4-4-1-1 and no Johnson? 4-4-2 and no Carsley? What about Fernandes? Lets see what you all think!

In my humble, opinion, I like the looks of this:

4-4-1-1

Howard Neville Lescott Yobo Baines Arteta Fernandes Osman Pienaar Cahill Yakubu

This would mean no Carsley (who has been a revelation again this term. No AJ either! Obviously its extremely rare that you'll ever have a fully fit squad and rotation is needed at vital times, but its a hyperthetical question just to see what you all think. The only problem with my choice is that we may be a bit lightweight in centre mid. I'm 50/50 about Osman, but he gets my nod!

Howard
Neville Yobo Lescott Baines

Arteta Carsley Cahill Pienaar

Yakubu Johnson
2nd IX
Ruddy
Hibbert Jagielka Stubbs Valente

Gosling Gravesen Fernandes Osman

Vaughan Anichebe

No place for Wessels he is total garbage
No current place for Fernandes in the first 11 but if Moyes goes for 5 in midfield obviousl yI would put him in, I think he will eventually get in the team though regularly
I dont rate Valente and never have so I would always play Baines ahead of him. I havent included VDM or Da Silva as they dont seem to have a future at the club nor any of the youngsters ie Rodwell Kissock Agard Justiewicz at the moment.

Fernandes

I know this is harsh on Carsley and possibly Jags but attacking wise I would love to see this team out!

Wow, what a dilemma. Both teams mentioned so far exclude Jags and AJ with Carsley, Baines, Osman and Valente as options. No place for Victor, Hibbo or Vaughan and no questions about Faddy who is Birmingham bound.

For me it’s
Howard
Neville
Yobo
Jags
Lescott
Carsley
Piennar
Arteta
Fernandes
Cahill
Yakubu

Bench

Baines
Osman
Vaughan
AJ
Ruddy.

or Jags on bench with Baines LB

It’s a headache because based on the game v Man City, the back four played very well together so to leave Hibbo and Nuno not even on the bench seems a bit harsh.
Almost an embarrassment of riches in defence but not a great deal in midfield.
Oh happy days. Come on you Blues.

Regardless of what line-up or formation Moyes goes with...the big thing now is that he can have some very good players sat on the bench itching to do their bit....all players are fighting for a spot so they all want to give 100%, whether they are in the starting line-up or sat on the bench as a sub.
There is nothing wrong with having somebody as a sub who can give Moyes the option to change formation or tactics in a game.
No surprise in saying that of course but my point is that even the line-up on the bench these days looks bloody good!

Ian,

I agree on the formation but I would start Carsley with Osman on the bench. This makes our midfield "bigger". The issue I have with Osman is that a lot of his shots on goal are weak. His work ethic is great but he doesn’t have the power. There were many shots this year that he had on goal that I thought he should have finished better. Secondly, with Peanut, Arteta and Manny, I don’t think that we need to have 4 creative players in the midfield. I would much rather have Cars playing the holding role in case one of our backs is caught out of position during a counter attack.

Our strongest 11 in their best positions:

Howard
Neville,Yobo,Lescott,Baines
Carsley
Arteta,Fernandes,Pienaar
Cahill
Yakubu

But lets face it - how often are we gonna have all those players available at the same time so good to have AJ,Vaughan,Vic,Osman,Jags,Valente,Hibbo,Gravesen,Stubbs all as cover.

Personally I’m a massive fan of Vaughan so mine would be:

Howard
Neville, Yobo, Lescott, Baines
Arteta, Fernandes, Carsley, Cahill, Pienaar
Vaughan

Subs
Jags, Yak, Johnson, Osman, Gosling?
Idea being Jags as pot Goalie if needed!

It must just be me but Baines just hasnt impressed me at all and he’s in all your staring 11’s

He’s too short, just like Naysmith was and will attact the same long ball to the left back area that he did. And he’s injury prone!!!!

Nuno is 10 times the player Baines is or ever will be!!!!

Nice to have to actually think on whom to leave out for a change...my team would be:

Howard
Neville Yobo(Jags) Lescott Baines
Carsley
Arteta Cahill Fernandes Pienaar(Ossie)
Yakubu(Johnson)

Subs:
Ruddy
Stubbs
Vaughan
Anichebe< Gravesenbr />

Those in brackets are chosen till the ACN gets over

16   Posted 17/01/2008 at 16:55:43

David you would pick Vaughan and leave 20 million quid sitting on the bench?
Howard
Neville
Yobo
Jags
Lescott
Arteta
Fernandes
Carsley
Cahill
Pienarr
Yakubu
I know Lescott is probably better at centre half, but when he plays left back he looks the business, Baines I need to see more of him at keft back. I think Cahill plays that position just off the striker as good as anyone in the league. 4-4-1-1 for me, loads of options with the ball and solid without it. That team for me would match most in the premiere league, and in Europe I might start with the same line up, but bring either AJ or Vaughn on last 20.

I liked seeing Johnson and Yakubu up forward as well but with Cahill in the side I can’t work it :(

Carsley is a great player, but I think with Fernandes now in, he may be on the outer :( The amount of yellows he’s been accumulating and the way he’s been getting them of late, looks like he’s just playing all out in his final games.

Its crazy how everyone is putting Fernandes ahead of Pienaar and Carsley.

Pienaar and Carsley have been absolutely fantastic this season. Carsley in particular has been the glue of the side and arguably out most important player.

Pienaar has been outstanding too and shown more in his loan spell then Fernandes ever did first time around.

Yet still its Fernandes who gets picked ahead of them. Thats crazy, this is a player who joins us after flopping at his last club.

Without playing a single minute your all ready to drop either Carlsey or Pienaar? Thats crazy to me.

Those who have left Carsley out. Who's going to do the fantastic job Lee has been doing since being in that position? And I'm saying not just this season; my player of the year.
Anthony Newell
28   Posted 17/01/2008 at 23:22:43

Player of the year would be Lescott without any doubt
Connor Rohrer
29   Posted 17/01/2008 at 23:13:34

Dutch, I picked Fernandes ahead of Osman because in my opinion he is a better player.

"Just wondering now what all us Evertonians think our best starting 11 is"?

That was the question and people have answered who they think our best eleven is on paper.

Pienaar has had 24 games to impress whereas Fernandes has only had 8 so there’s no comparison. If they where to play the same amount of games then you’ve got a point but sadly you haven’t.

Didn’t Pienaar flop at Dortmund? Yes he did as did Arteta at Sociedad so really it means fuck all.

If People think Fernandes is a better player than the likes of Osman, Pienaar and Carsley then they have every right to include him in there team.

Stop being bitter just because you don’t like him. Your exactly the same with Yakubu.

Although not exactly to point on the question it is interesting to see how many go for Fernandes.

Question with Manny in and Jimmy Mac out who is it that shows flashes of genius, and can drift in and out of the game. Both? Add to that loyalty and scoring important match winning goals and we are shipping out the wrong guy.

Poor old Hibbo - he made 2 starting 11s from all that lot! If hes really not good enough for a handful of people to say hes worth a start then do people think we should get rid and bring someone in who can challenge Nev for the position - or is that the plan with Gosling?
Anyway, cheerio Faddy! Am sure all blues wish him the best of luck and a good career after what must have been a frustrating few years mostly sat on our bench! Lets hope we put the money to good use!

I personally rate Hibbert highly as a defender. But i also think, as most seem to think, that Neville is a slightly better full-back, hence first choice in most line ups. Same goes for AJ, i rate him highly, i just think Yakubu’s a better striker and first choice at the moment
