The Mail Bag

New chant challenge

Comments (66)

Things on TW have been getting very heavy lately so I thought we could lighten the mood a bit with a challenge.

Can somebody come up with a better song for Victor Anichebe than the one being sung at the moment? It is a very poor effort.

Sorry but I'm not smart enough to start us off.

Sung to the tune of "let it be"

Why change it? unless the current one reminds you of a bad night out in Birkenhead.!

Ha ha, nice one Amanda, bet he’s still having nightmares about the Chelsea game.
It’s a shame we don’t have something for each player. Just read in the new Evertonian how chuffed Jags was when the crowd started chanting his name v Bolton. It obviously means a lot to the players.

A very simple one sung to the tune of "Oh Christmas Tree...."

"Anichebe Anichebe - there’s only one Anichebe"
Matt Morgan

Instead of finding a new chant for Anichebe we should really be looking for a better one for Tim Cahill, the guys been here for years now and been voted player of the season and yet the only thing heard is Tim Cahill Tim Cahill!

Victor’s, Theres been a few;
But then again, too few to mention.
He did what he had to do
And missed Afcon through exemption.

He powered through each euro course;
Each careful step along the highway,
But more, much more than this,
He’s Victor Anichebe.

Second half is a bit lacking.

Whats that comin’ over the hill....

Its ANICHEBE....

Its ANICHEBE....

to the tune of ’The Automatic - Monster’
Lue Glover

Oh Christmas tree.......great. Agreed poor ol’ Timmy gets a raw deal. I suppose there’s a few names (with 3 syllables) that would fit in with ’Volare’ - Tim Cahill, oh oh, Tim Cahill, oh oh oh oh.

Jagielka, oh oh
Phil Neville oh oh oh.....
and there’s
Manuel, Manuel Fernandes to the tune of ’Last train to San Fernando’
Dear me, can anyone tell I’m bored and stuck at home today!

I heard that Fernando song by ABBA, starting changing the lyrics for Fernandes, but not much good at this sort of thing anyway here are Abbas words sure some budding song writer could come up with a song for Fernades from this
Can you hear the drums Fernando?
I remember long ago another starry night like this
In the firelight Fernando
You were humming to yourself and
softly strumming your guitar
I could hear the distant drums
And sounds of bugle calls were coming from afar

They were closer now Fernando
Every hour every minute seemed to last eternally
I was so afraid Fernando
We were young and full of life and
none of us prepared to die
And I?m not ashamed to say
The roar of guns and cannons almost made me cry

There was something in the air that night
The stars were bright, Fernando
They were shining there for you and me
For liberty, Fernando
Though I never thought that we could lose
There?s no regret
If I had to do the same again
[ Lyrics found at www.mp3lyrics.org/AR ]
I would, my friend, Fernando

Now we?re old and grey Fernando
And since many years I haven?t
seen a rifle in your hand
Can you hear the drums Fernando?
Do you still recall the frightful night
we crossed the Rio Grande?
I can see it in your eyes
How proud you were to fight for freedom in this land

There was something in the air that night
The stars were bright, Fernando
They were shining there for you and me
For liberty, Fernando
Though I never thought that we could lose
There?s no regret
If I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, Fernando

There was something in the air that night
The stars were bright, Fernando
They were shining there for you and me
For liberty, Fernando
Though I never thought that we could lose
There?s no regret
If I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, Fernando
Yes, if I had to do the same again
I would, my friend, Fernando...

Timmy, Timmy Timmy the blue kangaroo

Timmy, Timmy playing for me and for you.

And yes it is getting heavy on here.

What about a simple -

An-i-che-be
An-i-che-be

so on

Same as Adebayor’s chant for Arsenal.
Pretty simple admittedly, but surely better than what he already has!
Gerry Allen
21   Posted 17/01/2008 at 17:52:52

ON TIM CAHILL.

Surely a simple chant befitting our heritage:

Nah, nah, nananahh - nananah CAHILL
(to the tune of Hey Jude or the old song about Kean-oh sung by the mancs for the culturally deprived).

Like the Lescott one from Amanda and think the "Red Flag" tune (or Oh Christmas Tree) is great for Victor. Anything but "there’s only one...fill in the blank".

Way up there at the top of all the songwriting was the idea of a chant for the lad. And the players do appreciate being recognised (as was said about Jags). So keep it simple, and let them hear it. Imagine having scored a winning goal you could hear -

Victor, Victor, VICTORY, Victor, VICTORY.
(to the usual tune)

Could it be better?

I probably would. (and a happy new year)
Evertons a great club (good tidings we bring)

Someone said about boxing for Timmy so how about this from Eye of the Tiger, probably too long for the terraces though...

Rising up straight from Millwall
Took the shots, took the headers
hes taken his chance now hes not gonna stop,
Soon you will be a goal down
Hes the pride of the blue boys
Hes the King of the header
Rising up to head the ball into the net
Punch the flag, like ma-ny times before
And you know - oh oh oh oh oh oh,
Its Timmy Cahill.

please excuse my rather bad effort lol.
And thank you Peter for raising the mood around here

Heres one sung to the tune of ? Scotland the Brave? for the Big Vic, might also bring a tear in Moyes eyes as well.

Mersey hear the sounds of rumbling,
Must be the Big Vic coming,
Pumped up and full of running,
Aaani chebeeeee,
Blue White a big heart thumping,
strikes like a flash of lightning,
revved up and full of fighting,
Aaani chebeee,

And in the heat of battle,
he?ll come on with no fear,
Proud and courageous,
loves to score so we can win! so

rpt Mersey hear ....etc

The Aussies will recognise this ...

"I’d like to buy a beer for Timmy
I’d like to buy a beer for Tim
He scores in the local derby
Then runs to the corner for some shadow boxin’
In front of the Lower Gwladys
Where the atmosphere is great
I’d like to buy a beer for Timmy
Cause Timmy’s me mate!!"

Clearly some of you have missed your true vocation with all those songs and chants - great efforts even if some a bit convoluted.

Tim Cahill - I always watched Skippy when I was a kid so I really like that one from Micky Norman. Also liked the waltzing matilda one from Simon.

Victor Anichebe: my favourite is from Matt Hayhurst because its simple and catchy.

Mick Mc - I can’t see any fans rememdering all those verses.

Dave Lynch - your wife is right, you are a miserable fart. Go and sit in a dark room and listen to yourself breath to check you are still alive.

Let’s see if any of these efforts make it to matchdays.

As transfer speculation becomes increasingly heated, I wish to thank the many contributors who have wonderfully distracted me from tabloid mendacity with their mellifluent stanzas. I myself have become increasingly pious in the hope that some deity may influence destiny and land our beloved Blues the Zenit St Petersburg player?. Andre Ashavin.

I have to confess this is for absolutely no footballing reason whatsoever but for a rather worrying fascination for the image his name phonetically inspires - and the resulting sonnets that will undoubtedly evolve. I humbly submit my own arioso for public consumption. Pubescent? Yes! Immature? Certainly! Dubious? Hopefully!! Disturbing??? Mmmmm???!!!!

Ode To Mr Arse-Shaving (Arse shavin?) Everton FC V Redshite

The Blues have lined up, going out 4-5-1
And there is Arshavin with prosaic bum
The Old Lady roars and the crowd starts to sing
All hail to the Russian with his buffed up ring

The ref blows his whistle, the start of the match
The crowd go berserk at the lack of arse thatch
No winnits, no cleg and no sign of dirt
The cleanest brown eye ever seen in our shirt

The Blues start off brightly the shite start to waver
Clearly in awe of our nifty arse shaver
The ball moves out swiftly to our left back Baines
He?s learning quickly - no skiddies, no stains

Up to the Yak, now looking trimmer
Then out to the wing to our hairless rimmer
The crowd get excited some start to drool
Others just blinded by bright anal jewel

Past one then another, bald butt in motion
Smooth as a baby soaked in Jonsons lotion
The Reds can?t catch up, they?re starting to flag
The penance of playing with hirsute bum drag

He takes it past three, and then feigns to cross
The defence are distracted by lack of arse moss
He can shoot with his right, or with his left
Another advantage of the bum-hair bereft

Finally he shoots ? Yes ? back of the net
His own celebration involves a Gillette
He gives a big smile but not from his lips
A big one-eyed stare from below his hips

Areteta and Osman smile back in surprise
As our hairless hero gives thanks to the skies
They know the secret of this huge success
A nice clean backside that leaves little mess

The rest of the team can?t wait for half time
To reach for their razors to cut a new line
Shaved derrières are the latest new fad
Why don?t you try it ? you know you?ll feel glad!

As for the match, well we won at a canter
Some say it?s down to our newest arse-mantra
Go neck down some Chang and get a bit tipsy
& then celebrate a bald Gipsy?s Nipsy

So let?s sign this Russian as he?s no defector
His ringpiece would please any Rectal Inspector
He?ll prove a great signing and might set you craving
The need for your razor to start your Arse Shaving.

Come on, you know it makes sense! His current chant is shite, so let's hear this ringing round GP when he gets the second goal on Wednesday.

Hello all, don?t know what chance there is of anyone reading this, you hve to scroll down an awful long way!! But I like the idea of a boxing theme for Tim Cahil, what about the rocky theme tune? No lyrics needed apart from Timmy?s name, just a catchy as hell tune that anyone can sing along to.

It?s a bugger to write in words cos its just trumpets, but after the first blast of trumpets you just repeat Tim Cahill four times before going back into trumpets. The next section with "trying hard now" can just be "Tim-my Cahill", you get the idea.

Follow this link and then imagine the Gladys Street singing along. I think it would be quality.
