The glory glory game

Comments (30)

I know that in the real world a Carling Cup Semi-Final is not supposed to matter and it's positively uncool to show any excitement at all for this competition. However, I have to say I don't care and personally can't wait for next Wednesday to arrive. Like every other Blue, I am despertae to see us return to Wembley and even more so to see us win a trophy again. Sixth place or even fourth place would be very good, but ultimately meaningless and wouldn't even come close to the feeling that picking up silverware would generate.

My head says the odds are heavily stacked against us and we may even take a beating if we are not careful. However, my heart says tha,t if we can get the first goal then we could do it.

I am not usually one for talking up the crowd before a game ? normally the RS are so up their own arses that they are the cringeworthy world champions at this sort of stuff. However, I think the Chelsea game is an exception and we really need 35,000 demented lunatics in all parts of the ground. I know Wigan on Sunday is an important game but just cant work up any interest at the moment. >

For a whole new generation of Blues, the Chelsea game could be a watershed moment that could lock in their loyalty for years ahead. I really hope we can pull it off and once again experience the glory glory game.

John, you have every right to get excited over the game on Wednesday. I know it's a third choice competition but to win it would be great. I too think if we get the first goal we could win it.
I don?t care what the competition is or who we play, every time we win its a great feeling and if we do against Chelsea then I will be in celebration mode for a week.

I never cared much for the carling cup, but I nearly cried when that ball went in off Lescott’s head at Stamford. I felt sick and went to bed straigth away. That sums up how serious I take it this year...

I agree wth the above postings. When you have been without a trophy for as long as we have, anything would be welcome. I was there in the 80’s when we made it to the Milk Cup final and was ecstatic about that. Although we didn’t win it, look what it kick-started. Perhaps this League Cup run will have a similar impact.

Personally, I think the first goal is the key. We get it, I think it will spur the crowd and the team. They get it and I have a horrible feeling it could be a rout.

Whatever happens, it’s great to be blue this season and I think we are going in the right direction.

Recent years have seen the big clubs taking the carling cup more serious, you only have to look recent winners & finalists, so the cup is a lot more credible than ever!!

To be honest though, we have been that starved of success, I dont blame you John or myself, or anyone else that is as worked up, excited & as nervous as I am!!!

We have to be pushing on as many fronts as possible and with our exit from the FA cup we should have no excuses, thats why I hope we get a positive result at Wigan also, then the real madness can start. I cannot fucking wait my friends.

John, all Moyes needs to do is pin that arrogant posting on the Chelsea website to the dressing room wall (the one suggesting we should be allowed to bow out after the first leg) The rest will take care of itself

Completely agree, when that own goal went in it was like someone had stabbed me in the back. I nearly threw my pint away and felt a weird numb after.
I think we can do them, COYB and get to Wembley

I can’t wait - I’m coming up from Reading along with my mate - who will be at Goodison for the first time, so we’re hoping it’s a real special night. And we both plan to lose our voices.
COYB!!!

Nothing Better Jip, than a midweek night game, good first game for your mate

I would love to be able to get over for it, but will just have to watch it on the box. I hope Goodison is the nosiest its ever been! under lights, Goodison bouncing the Chelsea lads will see what a proper football stadium is like.

I made a post before the City game saying that our semi final started with City and I still believe that. Going into the Chelsea game on the back of two wins against City and Wigan (hopefully) possibly in 4th place would have the lads full of confidence again and the memory of the first game and Oldham game long gone. COYB!

Oh I cannot wait for Wednesday night. The players will be so up for it, Goodison will be bathed in floodlit passion and 40,000 blues will filling the night air with deafening noise. C’mon Chelsea lets see what you’ve got!!!!

I agree about us getting the first goal, because if we go in front we are very difficult to beat.

I also agree that that shit rag of an article will whip up a couldren of intense motivation for the players, has Moyes seen this or any of the players??

Maybe we can all e-mail the club with the link (to get their attention) so moyes can see it and put it on the dressing room wall!!!

COYB, lets show them we are hungrier and have the eye of the tiger, we should get sly over to give a team talk before the game!!!!

I hope everyone gets tanked up before it theres a couple of meaty tackles early on and it becomes an evil atmosphere. Lampard is on record saying Goodison is the ground with the evilest atmosphere - let's reassure him why!

Something else for Moysey to pin up. The Official CC site has analysis by some anonymous clown saying Chelsea will win. Bizarre.

As I just realised that the final coincides with the last day of my honeymoon and I will therefore be unable to go, I’m suddenly more confident of us getting there.
Mark Griffiths

Robin, If we do get there and you are on the last day of your honeymoon, you might have some big decisions to make!

I’m looking forward to the game just as much as the rest of you, Im sure Lescott/Howard will have a say in putting the demons to rest once and for all if it be a clean sheet or another goal...silverware is a must this season (hopefully), the exposure and confidence it will bring to the squad, crowd for us to kick on this and next year is a must...COYB!!

Got my seat near the corner flag.
Believe me, any Chelsea player that comes anywhere near is going to get a severe tongue lashing.
Been practicing all week i have.

Dave,
Some of my mates pay good money for a severe tongue lashing.

Can I give them your number ??

I asked for Park End tickets, so of course I got 4 in the Lower Bullens. If you are at a different corner, wear a white suit with pink carnation, have a copy of the Daily Mirror under your arm, and hold up a placard with your phone no. on.

Lets give Avrams mercenaries some shit.

I’m so excited, I don’t no what the reason is but it just feels like Wednesday night is destined to be a great night at Goodison.

I was a bit late in getting my seat but have managed to get a marquee ticket through the corporate section. Has anybody sat there before? I want to sing my heart out with the rest of you but don’t know if its the done thing in that section?

P.S. Does anyone else get the feeling this year that everybody involved in the club is a supporter? I know it sounds stupid but comments like the one from Yakubu suggesting he’ll be watching and willing us on, Andy Johnson claiming it doesn’t matter who plays they are all behind whoever the 1st eleven is! It just feels like something special is happening to us this year. I need to go and have a drink and calm down!!!!!!!!!!

I’ll be roaring the lads on from a bar in Alicante. I would kill to be at Goodison next Wednesday. I was there 24 years ago and remember the place exploded when Kevin Richardson blasted in the second goal from the edge of the box. And that was the first leg. Same result will do nicely. Another thought, who would you like in the final? If we do get the Arse, we’ll have qualified for europe again before setting foot at Wembley, as there’s no way they’re gonna slip down to 5th place at the end of the season. And before you all start I’m not being negative. I see us as capable of beating any team. It’s just that with a European qualification achieved (practically), we can relax and turn on the style. COYB!

22   Posted 18/01/2008 at 15:29:09

James, I don?t like to enter a downer into this fantasticaly positive thread, but if the winner of the Carling Cup qualifies for Europe via another route, the space in the Uefa does not go to the losing finalist, but to the next highest place in the Premier League. Still, who cares? We?ll either win the CC, win the Uefa Cup, or finish 4th, 5th, or 6th anyway!!!!! CumAAAAAAAN!

Let’s make it a ’85 Bayern Munich’ atmosphere and scare Chelski to death. I hope everyone at the ground shouts their hearts out for the lads. we just need that first goal!

I am not cheap, but well worth the money.
Beileve me, some of the insults i have lined up for Avrams mercenaries would make a nun reach for her rosearies.
Can’t wait.

David Whitwell, the hospitality seats I had for The Citteh game were okish, I was in the Main Stand, basically on line with the goal line at the Park End.

Nice cushioned seats but don?t expect many to sing loud and proud with you ? I was getting funny looks when I was shouting at Fadds to "Fucking give the ball to a Blue player, you Fuckwit!"

Can?t imagine why?

The only clubs supporters who don’t care about the Carling Cup semis are the 88 who aren’t in it. All this crap about the relative merits of competitions is annoying. We enter the competition to try and win it. if Manure or the RS were playing Chelski in the semi they would feel just like us. And when we beat them it will be as good as anything we’ve had since ’95.The "real world" is supporters watching their team for 90 odd minutes and whether its the PL, UEFA or the LancashireUnder 16s Cup I’m ecstatic when we win and feel like crap when we lose. 1-0 aet would be fine by me.
Keith Harrison
27   Posted 18/01/2008 at 18:03:17

Dave,
If you have a video of those nuns reaching for their Rosaries we are in business mate.

I’ll be leading the chants in the Lower Bullens of "stop kicking it in the air, we can’t f*****g see the ball", a problem which Joeleon and Tim H had in the first leg.

To guarantee victory, Davey should put that insulting post from the Chelsea official site on the dressing room wall, and invite his fellow Scot Ian McGeechan to give a speech before the lads run out.

His speeches to the British Lions (Rugby Union) before thier tests reduced me to tears - stirring stuff.

Believe you me, Wednesday night will belong to the hungrier team who WANTS it.

COYB.
