Le Tiss Talking Tosh
Comments (24)
Matt le Tissier talks about the Wigan game on Sky Sports and after starting by saying he has been impressed with us this season he then goes on to basically slate us and say that we will not be able to cope without our Africans and McFadden. He says we will get knocked out of the Carling cup by Chelsea, and won't beat Wigan.
No mention of the fact that we have just signed Fernandes, or that we have AJ, Vaughan and Anichebe to feed instead of the Yak. Come on boys prove that gimp he is wrong. So So Wrong!

Is Fernandes going to be any good against Wigan? After flopping at Valencia the only time he’s been near the box was when he was in prison.
It may take Fernandes some time to get back to the decent form we glimpsed last season.

To be honest Craig, I just read the article and I cant really see any slating. He mentions our lack of depth at the moment comapred to early in the season which is fair enough and as far as I can see points out that Johnson coming back will be a huge boost for us. On the Chelsea front, he does say that he thinks they will win, but he is a neutral and will be looking at the fact that they are 2-1 up with a strong squad.
We know better though;-)

It never took him long last season considering he had missed a lot of football before coming to us.

Yeah Craig, he also states that he thinks Manchester City will finish 4th or alludes to the fact he thinks they have more chance than the others near by.
Bring it on, the more negativity can only drive us on to prove all these predictions wrong!!!

My Main concern is that although moyes has been going on about having a bigger squad this year, in reality its not a great deal bigger than in previous years. We only have 3 players at the AN cup, but we are looking really low on numbers for the wigan game.
Who is going to play out on the left until pienaar comes back in mid febuary?? Hope ossie gets his fitness up in time for the chelsea game!!
Maybe baines can do a job left midfield??

I still think man for man on sunday each Everton player will be better than his Wigan counterpart and it will be a comfortable 2-0 victory! COYB!!

Matt LeTisser, works for Sky, listening to some of the crap they have been reporting on this Newcastle shite, I wouldn’t take any of them serious, a bunch of retards. 2-1 on Sunday, Arteta and Lescott. Chelsea game could be a bit tough, I just hope we keep our bottle, they will try and defend for the first 10 minutes to quiten the crowd, got to stay calm and keep it tight ourselves at the back. I see a night to remember next week if we can get an early goal.

I think some supporters are paranoid and go around with a huge chip on their shoulders - I though Matt L.Tiss? article very fair and a good picture of the present situation and our team performances this season. Just because he thinks Chelsea will beat us in the semi-final makes him unfair!! Come on guys ... lighten up.

Craig Taylor: What on earth are you talking about? Did you actually read this article?
Even if he had talked us down I wouldn’t give a shit. It’s not obligatory to love Everton just because we do. But Le Tissier has in fact praised Everton extensively throughout the whole article.
Read this stuff if you must, but please stop such paranoid nonsense.

Dutch, you just can’t seem to wait for Manny or anyone else for that matter to fall on their faces. Can we just get behind the team, ALL the team! There are quite afew players that I would prefer not to see on the pitch but once they’re out there all I want is to see them succeed, not wait until they have a bad day so I can say ner ner nee er ne! Come on lads!

Dutch, I just don’t understand you anymore. Why do you hate these players? Yakubu has scored 12 goals just half way into the season but you won’t give him credit, you were blasting Vaughan saying we should sell him when he injured his shoulder, and now you are trying to say that Fernandes has been spending the past weeks in prison. Get it right mate, he spent a couple of hours in a holding cell, not prison, when someone tried to accuse him of stealing a watch, which many people from Valencia have come out and said was because he is dark skinned. He is a rich footballer, why would he steal a watch. But the police over there are known to have racist tendencies, so they arrested him anyway. And his form wasn’t "descent" for us, he was very, very good for us. His "flopping" at Valencia was down to a coaching change, with a manager coming in who had previously worked with him and did not like him. He was never given a chance at Valencia, which is now to our benefit.

"descent" ?!?! ? That just confirms how standards on here are being allowed to.. er... "drop"! Sack the Editor!!!

Patty, you have got it spot on there. Lately, some fans have this. ’it’s us against the world ’ attitude. I heard the Le Tiss piece, and never seen it as slating us. It seems to be, the ref’s have it in for us, sky hate us, the BBC hate us, the papers hate us, everyone in the whole world hates us. I agree with you Patty, some fans seem to have this huge chip on their shoulders.

One thing I would say about the Le Tiss piece is he showed a clear ignorance about our team. He said Osman would miss out due to getting injured in training. He might have wanted to do a fact check and see that Osman has been out for a month now with a broken foot that he picked up against West Ham. And he didn’t seem to know that we just signed Fernandes. Then he said that Anichebe "has not really got the goalscorer’s instinct." In fact Anichebe has repeatedly scored important late goals for us in Europe, but had not been playing much rescently due to Yakubu’s form and goal scoring. He then says Birmingham paid too much for McFadden, that Moyes would have taken a couple of million for him so he doesn’t know why they offered 5 million for him. If he would have just done one minutes worth of research he could have seen that we rejected a deal of around 2 million, rejected a deal for around 3-4 million, and eventually Birmingham had to pay up to our valuation for the striker. His piece did show a lot of ignorance about our club, not attacking us though.

I must have read a different article because the one I read seems to praise us, evene more so with a depleted squad.
David, so he got the injury details wrong, so he didn’t mention Fernandes, he is right about Anchovt and he is very right about Fadds, we have f@cking mugged McLeigh with that one.
He doesn’t and shouldn’t purport to know everything about Everton, he is simply writing a throw away match article.
Nothing sinister at all and if I wasn’t an Evertonian with hope, I would probably expect Chelsea to beat us also.

Tony, he is wrong about McFadden. Read what he said, that we would have just taken 2 million for him. The fact is that we rejected those small offers so whoever bought him would have had to pay 5 million for him. He is suppose to be a journalist these days so a bit of research should have been done. If you are going to be asked to write about the a certain topic or team then doing just a few minutes worth of research should be expected.

I’m not really sure how Le Tissier’s article could be consider a ’slating’ really. I thought it was well balanced and made some good points, particularly about Anichebe, I must say.
We need to look beyond what we have at times justifiably thought of as a media conspiracy against the Blues, and realise that performing consistently on the pitch is the only thing that will give us the recognition that we deserve. All things considered, we have definitely grown in stature in the eyes of the media this season, and rightly so. I’ve even caught some pundits praising our attacking, attractive football!
I wish someone would watch our games closely enough to twig that Mikel’s dead ball delivery is utter bollocks though!

Seems like a fair piece to me; he praises Moyes and the team, telling it pretty much like it is. Le Tissier usually speaks sense, and seems like a decent bloke with a balanced view of things.
Agree with you too Andrew about Anichebe; never gonna be a big goal scorer that boy.
I can also see his point about McFadden, I’m delighted we got £5m for him!
Lots of talk about Sidwell coming to us now he’s blown out Sunderland - apparently Avram Grant won’t let him leave till the 31st January though so we’ll have to wait a while. Plenty of Arshavin talk too but I doubt that one personally - Spurs & Arsenal also being linked. Sidwell’s been terrible for Chelsea but then he hasnt played much, played really well for Reading though so worth a punt on loan for sure.

I think that McFadden going at this point is bad business for the club. On one side. we have the captain saying that the days of attractive football are gone; on another we have Cahill saying he will put Australia before Everon’s inteests; on a third: are we stronger as a squad now than we were in December?
The Sunderland game was a step forward for a team just below the very best. Are we now stepping back from that high point?
We have (had) a team of high footballing skill. We also have of good share of fighters and workers. Unless the footballers prevail in the necessary partnership, we will end up in mid table where our spending suggests we belong. It is essential that we take the risk that the move to the next level entails. If McFadden’s sale is part of that then we need to build with somebody better and immediately. The time when a good side plays well together and understands each other in a footballing senses is short. Carsley, although a hard worker and excellent against inferior teams, has been poor against Arsenal, Man Utd and especially Chelsea. That is why they have beaten us. We need to play to our strengths and McFadden’s football skills were one of those (with all his weaknesses). Carsley and Neville in midfield is a recipe for footballing mediocrity. Either one singly can do a job. This call for ’ugly football’ on the back of McFadden’s transfer bodes ill for what has been potentially our best season since 1987.

Sorry Peter, but I disagree that McFadden going was bad business.
For us, he was only ever going to get a short run in the side at left wing(i.e. out of position) for a few weeks until pienaar or osman became available. Couldn?t see him ever getting a game up front for us with the forwards we have at the club. Getting 5 or 6 million for him is damn good business in my eyes.
We do actually have options without him. Baines could come in at left wing and will certainly provide more pace than McFadden, and I?d guess his delivery into the box might be better too.
As far as I am concerned McFadden was dead-wood. I can?t see him being the difference in us beating/losing to wigan/chelsea etc, so better to get rid while his stock is high.

Going back to the thread’s topic! Matt Le Tisser said he couldn’t see us winning at Wigan. Makes his prediction sound hollow and ignorant, doesn’t it? We won here last year. What made it seem impossible that we couldn’t do it again? Or was it that he couldn’t bear the thought of Everton being in a Champions League spot? It shows you what he knows. And people should stop calling the likes of Le Piss, Merson & Lawrensen experts! There’s no such thing as a football expert. They are just ex-footballers paid to give an opinion!
