Daily Mail article

I cannot believe what I just read in the Daily Mail. They suggest that Newcastle and Tottenham were wrong not to consider Moyes when there were recent vacancies!

Has the author even seen the League table? Why would Moyes leave us for a team in the bottom 3? Why would he go to a team in turmoil and without a proper trophy in 50 years? (Even Uefa don't recognise the Fairs Cup)

And I thought that the southern press had begun to wake up to the Everton renaissance. The whole article smacks of little Everton are so lucky to have a manager like Moyes. Is it written by some moron who has never been to Goodison or knows nothing about us or football?

Furthermore, it implies that Moyes is a soft touch! Does the author know anything about his managerial style? Surely of all the managers in the league, Moyes is the biggest task manager going. I have heard that Alex Feruguson today is a gentile grandad compared to the tyrant of the early 90s who had cruise around his players homes making sure they were tucked up in bed. Which manager of the two had Rooney on the scales every day to ensure he stayed fit? Certainly not Ferguson.

I don't know why I expected any less from that paper, surely it is worse than any tabloid.

You’re spot on in your assessment Steve. Whilst the article is an interesting read, the elements you highlighted do serve to show that ’Fleet Street’ really is ’Shit Street’ and the ’gutter press’ is a fitting description for such low rubbish. Further evidence of ’dumbing down’ that such tripe passes with the editor’s approval. The like of Brian Glanville and other broad sheet quality journos shine as beacons among the tabloid dross!

If the journo was trying to belittle David Moyes by saying he?s developed into ?a soft touch ? by becoming a bit closer to his players then he?s failed miserably. All he?s done is prove that he?s bettered his man-management skills ? something which does come with experience. And yes, why would he want to even consider going to Spurs or Newcastle when he?s achieved what these teams have aspired to and not spent the enormous amounts that both have done? The sooner these ignorant scribes realise that we are moving closer to the top again and don?t want their condecending comments, the better.

Steve - you’ve got it: the Daily Mail is right wing garbage written by morons. It’s the sort of no-nothing newspaper that likes Chelsea. End of.

Christ you bunch of fannys, talk about making a mountain out of a molehill! The article was generally very pro-Moyes, it wasn't trying to belittle him in any way. I'll agree the comments about Newcastle and Spurs not going after him were a bit off but some Everton fans really need to stop getting sand in their mangina?s so easily.

Dave Pearson, ’Sand in their mangina’s!’ That is hilarious!! Cheers for the great laugh. Yep, other than suggesting that Spurs and Newcastle are way bigger than Everton the article was pretty good! I’ve washed out me ’mangina’ and fell much better now, COYB!

Guys sorry but do you not understand sarcasm?

The very last word about the Newcastle post was just meant to be a very sarcastic, cheeky add on to when Moyes mentions the likes of Bayern Munich have been needing managers.

If any of you read The Mirror the other day, the report on the City game, it said that Moyes should have gone to Newcastle.
You could tell the tone completely between the different articles.
If Lawton (the journo who wrote this) called Levy a "Euro snob" then he is hardly endorsing the club and telling Moyes it would have been better for him to go there.

Dave Pearson was spot on. Stop making a mountain out of a molehill because you misread a piece and thing the whole world?s against us.

I believe we can take the following lessons from this:

The Mail is shite (we knew this anyway)

Moyes is a top manager and we don't care what the southern shandy-drinking press say about our team. We?re making the progress they all want but doing it with a bit of grace.

Thanks to Steve Fern for directing me to this article that I would otherwise have missed.

It is, in fact, a fascinating read, gives an interesting insight into Moyes and is EXTREMELY complimentary to Moyes the man and Everton the club.

The only people the article pokes fun at are the chairmen of the Barcodes and Spurs.

BTW... LOL comment by Dave Pearson!!! Top drawer!!!!

Those of you who are slating the article and having a go at the Mail, have any of you actually bothered to look at the link and read it for yourselves? All I can see is a well written article which is full of praise for both Moyesy and Everton. If its making fun of anyone its the Spurs and the Geordies.

Good article, nothing anti-Everton in it at all, and tells Skunks and Spurs they are the dickheads for not even considering Moyes. It doesn’t say that they are bigger clubs, but that Moyes is more than worthy of consideration, a fact of which we should be proud.

Go give your Manginas (love that) a pressure wash douche, and save your ire for the game on Wednesday, convert it into passion, and lets have a good weekend at Wemberley.

Surely the main part of the article is where he says:

"by the time we have either rebuilt Goodison or moved to a new stadium I want us to be an established top-four team."

Read into that what you will... I have!

What is worrying me is the amount of credit Alex Ferguson seems to always lay on Moyes.
Credit to our gaffer he deserves every ounce of it, but from a fans point of view, I cant help but think a couple of years down the line, when fergie moves upstairs in the corridors of power at Old Trafford, he is obviously going to be chief consultant about his successor and I may be jumping the gun here but Moyes may be right at the top of the list.

Roy Keane is a bit too young for such a big job; Mark Hughes has done okay... and then you cant rule out one or two foreign managers, but the fact of the matter is David Moyes is one of our biggest assets, I just hope that our Board can match Moyesey?s ambition to compete for the league before this becomes an issue. If he went, I dread to think who could do as good a job as he has. So let's not even make his decision hard if ever such a thing happens. Lets start winning trophies and bring back the glory days to Goodison once and for all.

God, you guys are a touchy bunch. If anyone dare criticize anything to do with the club now, there is uproar in the streets. I bet if anybody slated the sausage rolls at the ground, you lot would be on here up in arms, and marching in the streets. Look lads, there is no agenda, to slate us at all costs, by the media press, Sky, the FA or anyone else, for that matter.

Danny - ??David Moyes is one of our biggest assets?? ? Correction: he is THE biggest asset at this club.

On the case of Man Utd, I might be too much of an enthusiast but surely he wouldn?t throw away what would then be around 10 years hard work to go to them if we are hopefully in the top 4 and challenging for 3rd, 2nd and 1st in 4-5 years time ? can you see him going?

18   Posted 19/01/2008 at 10:49:30

Rob,

I absolutely agree with you - I do beleive that he is the biggest asset at the club but some Evertonians I know dont, hence the "one of our biggest asssets" comment.
And with regards to being confident in him staying, I am hopeful, but not confident UNLESS we start to match his ambition. Wayne "Fat little knobhead" was one of us once, and he kicked us in the teeth at a time we needed him most, so In all honesty nothing surprises me in football now. I only hope Davey Moyes is the real deal and brings success to us and cements his own legacy at the peoples club Everton FC.

I liked that comment about washing out my mangina, very funny.

However, I disagree about the tone of the article. Some of you seem to believe that it is tongue-in-cheek and sarcastic. Yes there are a few tongue-in-cheek comments but the article is full of condescending comments, that I do not believe are sarcastic. They show that the author believes that Tottenham and Newcastle should have actually persued Moyes. I believe that Moyes was probably not considered in public for the same reason they did not consider Wenger or any of the other top managers in big jobs, because there is no way Moyes would even consider the job.

?for reasons best known to the men with more money than sense, [Moyes] keeps being ignored when certain jobs become available?.

I don’t entirely agree with you there Steve, I think the author is showing his increduility that Moyes was not even seriously considered.

I also think Dave Pearson should be credited in Roget’s Thesaurus with the word Mangina. I can imagine these as butch birds with bollocks, or very feminine blokes.

Either way, we all know some, so I’ll have a laugh all day today.

Must off as I have to go to a sponsored Rugby match today with free drink and buffet etc, and need the wife to give me a hair cut first. It’s my last hair, and I’ll miss it. I called it Rafa ’cos it was a sad, lonely f***r and whichever style I rotated it in it was not right. Have to get the old Gillet (and Hicks) razor out and get rid.

Have a great weekend, COYB, FTRS

Dave Pearson, couldn’t agree more with you. Nothing anti-Everton in the article at all, unless you are super-sensitive.
Some people seem to feel better that the world is against us. Anyway, reason for this post is that bit about Moyes almost breaking even in the transfer market over his tenure, and Liverpool spending around £100 million over same period. Does anyone know if that’s true? Does anyone know of a link online of an already compiled comparison?

I’ve just added a comment to the Daily Mail article pointing out the "inaccuracy" of why DM would want to go to infererior clubs. Anyone out there care to back me up on their site and add a comment of their own?

Perhaps some (like journo Matt Lawton, as evidenced in his article here) perceive our great club to be inferior to the likes of Spurs and the Barcodes. His suggesting that Everton are lucky to have Moyes would support this in my eyes. Whilst I’m not overly fussed what the southern press write, finishing in a CL berth this season will likely achieve further deserved recognition.

I read the article and I thought it was highly complementary of Moyes. I can understand how people can get sesitive about all this Newcastle shit however.

Q: How many league titles have Everton won since Newcastle last won one? ( In 1927!)
A: Seven
Q: How many FA Cups have Everton won since Newcastle last won one?
A: Three

I also remember when Newcastle won the Fairs Cup in 1969, they qualified after finishing 8th in the league. Everton, who had reached the FA Cup Final and finished 5th, couldn’t enter the competition because of the one-club one city rule.

If, you know, yer ’istory.....

I think he was just pointing out that he was surprised that moyes wasn’t considered by spurs and newcastle as he is an excellent manager, who is doing things right, I don’t think he suggested he should have gone, just that, why does moyes never get considered for managerial vacancies? I’m glad he doesn’t, but then I don’t think he would go anyway.

It just goes to show the differing mentalities on different sites.

The BBC 606 have a post up http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/606/A31319822 saying it is a good article.

I think they are praising Moyes and like the other thread where someone was having a go at Le Tissier, there are a few over sensitive posters on here.
