Baines's injury problems

I read a piece about Leighton Baines and his recent ankle injury, he may well need to see a specialist. I'm beginning to worry that he might be a little injury-prone... Let's hope he's been just unlucky this season.

Ah.. that label: "injury-prone"...
I wonder... would you call our chief blocker, one Lee Carsely, "injury-prone"? Tough position to play... lots of physical contact,,, but hardly ever seems to get injured... Yet he was out for almost the entire season just recently. Perhaps he was just injury-prone for that season, but has subsequently shaken off this particular malady?

Let's just hope Leon Osman is out injured tomorrow because if he plays we are effectivley down to 10 men. Osman is useless in big games and was awful on Sunday. Chelsea's midfield will eat him alive.

As Michael says, geting one bad injury (in Baines? case, his ankle seems to still be the same injury as earlier in the season, maybe not a terrible injury but a lengthy one) doesn?t make someone injury prone. In his last three years at Wigan he never missed more than about three games a year. It?s not somethign that?s haunted him throughout his career, he just happens to have suffered an injury which is worse than it appeared at the time, and it?s bad luck more than anything else.

Ahh, Tony. I?ve missed you!
Osman being fit is, for me, our biggest glimmer hope tomorrow in attack. Yes, he was a little under par Vs Wigan but he?s just back from injury.
Providing he is fit, I can see him, neat and lively as ever dodging through and creating chances for us plus he has the ability to hold the ball and ease the pressure on our defence when they are pressing us...
The game on sunday would have helped with his match fitness and, honestly, didn?t everyone have a bit of a crap game that day?
C?mon Ossie! Net me a couple!

Your a bit harsh on Osman arent you? There is the chance that Fernandes won't figure and AJ also. That reduces the squad already so at least if Osman is fit it gives some goal threat. He is not a great player I know that but who is going to come in tomorrow and do a better job? Gravesen? Be serious... and we cant play 4-4-2 because we don't have the personel. With Yak missing and McFadden sold it leaves only AJ as experienced. For me neither Vaughan or Anichebe are starters just yet, both better at coming on when the opposition defence is wearying. I most certainly hope Osman is fit..

I’m with Viv on this one. Ossie is a vastly improved player and has benefitted immensely from having Pieanaar & Arteta playing and i think Fernandes will have the same effect. I sure hope he’ll be fit tomorrow. Just watching the Spurs vs Arsenal game and it’s really getting me in the mood for tomorrow evening! A friend of mine who supports West Ham told me recently he felt a Spurs vs Everton final was on the cards....
On Baines, i don’t think he’s necessarily going to be injury prone, it seems he may have the same type of problem that hampered AJ for a time. Back on to tonights game and Bale cost twice what Baines did and he really seems much more injury prone!

Marsh, Ossy has just come back from 4 weeks out, he's had no match practice and thrown in to the deep end (literaly given the pitch) at Wigan and did ok.
I remember the goal he scored in our first Uafa Cup match in the group stages - amazing. If you have actualy been watching matches before Ozzy was injured you would of seen that one of the reasons we have done so well is his interplay with Pienaar, Cahill and Arteta.
Baines has had a long season as he played in the U-21 last summer and I think it is catching up with him. He will come good, just give him time to recover properly.

Marsh, you miserable bugger. Leon has been one of our most exciting performers for a few seasons now, but you can?t seem to see it. He has quicker feet than Arteta, his first touch is frighteningly good - I can?t remember an Everton player as impressive in this respect for many a year - and he is one of only a few players who can unlock defences with a bit of craft. He has already scored 5 goals for us this season - not bad considering the injury and I?d LOVE IT if he bagged the winner tomorrow!

I think Tony’s being a bit harsh but he has a point. Osman doesn’t have an impact in the big games and especially on the wing. Who would you play ahead of him Tony Marsh? I don’t see any other options. At least Osman gives us some balance and hopefully with Fernandes and Arteta around him he’ll be able to contribute.
I’m surprised you not a fan of Osman Tony. You being a Football purist I would expect you to rate one of our most positive and technically gifted players.

Please people lets stay on topic and don’t let Tony hijack another thread.
Baines, as someone else pointed out, had hardly missed a game for Wigan, it just seems that Lady Luck has come calling for her payback.
He is just unlucky and the latest injury came from being booted by another player, nothing he could have avoided.
Just hope he is a quick healer and gets back soon.

There was a point in time when Ryan Giggs was regarded as "injury prone" and it lasted for several years. The same could be said of Alan Shearer yet overall I don’t think their clubs regretted having them for one second. Baines has had his bad luck but fortunately he has niggly problems rather than long term ones and usually it’s the big knocks that are harder to overcome. Personally I am more concerned about Vaughans injury record as he is younger and has had worse problems and we all saw how injuries took their toll on the once "young and promising striker" Francis Jeffers.
