What's going on with Anderson?

Comments (7)

Can anybody tell me what is the story with Anderson Da Silva? We went and bought the boy, having to wait quite a while for clearance to get him, and he can't seem to get a look in. Does anyone know why we bought him if we're not going to give him a go?

From what I see on the net, he seems to have done really well at Barnsley, so, what's the go? As I'm in Oz I'm not privy to a lot of info so if someone could let me know I'd be most interested.

I am in Florida so I am equally bewildered but my own theory is as follows. A couple of years ago Moyes’ saw a bit of De Silva and figured that for a free transfer or nominal fee he was worth a chance. At that point in time we had virtually no money and gave opportunities to the likes of Plessis, Saib etc. Red tape delayed the move and without really re-examining the whole thing we finally wrapped up the deal last summer. Unexpectedly at that time Moyes came into some money and was able to bring in Pienaar, Yakubu, Graveson etc. Compared with them and the existing players like Arteta Moyes realised De Silva wasn’t that fantastic. With limited room to manouvre in terms of the wage bill Moyes decided to farm him out on loan with the hope that someone else would buy him because we (unlike the big 4) don’t have the money to keep ahold of decent fairly well paid 2nd and 3rd choice players. That is my theory anyway.

Another possibility on here is the old favourite that someone wheels out every time a player is left out of the team which is "He said a row with Moyes and Irvine in training." I would say either or could be true.

He said a row with Moyes and Irvine in training and.......only joking.

To be honest, it seems as though he just couldn’t cut it.

He played a few minutes against Charlton and looked like a rabbit caught in the headlights. He played a few pre season games and never really shone and therefore he was shipped out on loan for experience.

It would seem that unfortuantely he was not the whizzkid, Moyes thought he would turn out to be. Not a very expensive gamble but I suppose worth a punt.

Like the rest of us I?ve seen little of the lad but, living in london, I got the chance to see him against Palace in pre-season. Admittedly he didn?t shine but he certainly didn?t look out of place (we were shockingly bad!) and I remember thinking he might play a big part this year. Watching us against Werder Bremen on the tele, he seemed like one of our best players! He?s obviously not impressed Moyes in training though so what do I know but i?d rather see him line up next to Carsley than Neville.

He’s just not very good

I watched him V?s Palace and Werder and I have to say he is MUCH better then Neville and Jags in midfield ? at passing and moving ? maybe not at tracking back....i think this is the main reason he dont get a game...Moyes demands players work and chase the ball. Still if we get £1M for him... I'd take it. Barnsley have not won a game since he came back !

Jack Johnson - and how would you know?
He hasn?t played for us.. and when he plays for Barnsley they win, when he doesn?t they get beat... Hibbert isn?t very good but he plays regularly and gets a new 4½-year deal , so the logic that he isn?t very good can?t be why he isn?t being picked ? must be some sort of clash with Moyes...

Yipee - another thread of half truths, presumption and complete fabrications, what more could we ask for, as if transfer rumours weren?t enough.

Correct me if I?m wrong but there was a kid called Osman who nobody rated very much ? Everton sent him out on loan for a year or two and came back to be a first-team regular. There was no clash with the manager, no rubbish player, just someone who wasn?t quite ready for first team premiership football and needed to learn the game a bit in the lower divisions for a while.

So why all the conspiracy and suggestions of fall outs etc? He was signed on a short-term deal last season, that was renewed this season, therefore the management obviously see potential. That doesn?t make him an automatic first choice every week.

Will there be this talk when the lad from Plymouth isn?t in the first team in the next month as well?

We have made no suggestion we are trying to off-load the player so we obviously see him as a long-term investment.
