Just been watching Revista de la Liga and the pundit linked us with a move to Real Mallorca's spiderman saying that we are one of a number of English clubs interested in the Argentine winger. I did a quick bit of research after being quite impressed by the clip they showed of him, and also watched a couple more on youtube. Spiderman is his nickname due to getting out a Spiderman mask and putting it on every time he scores, apparently (see the you tube clip). Still it beats the dummy celebration.
Any of our Spanish friends have anything to add about him? Would he be a decent addition and is it down the left that he plays?

I don’t know about the player but as you said yourself Steve a Spiderman mask is better than a bloody dummy ....... I think Tevez is a fantastic player but when he pulls out the dummy he does look a right prat!

Don?t like him.
anyone who carries a mask around just so he can put it on when he scores is an out and out WANKER.
If he was my son I?d be embarrased. We don?t need mug lares like this pratt at Everton no matter how good he is. From the clips I've seen it looks like he has only ever scored 1 goal of note. And the Tevez dummy is just as big a wank. I couldn?t believe it when I saw him pull it out. Makes me sick.

Oh calm down Peter, its his way of celebrating so leave him be, never heard of the lad but if hes good enough then why not? also on the post above this one as I can’t post, Whoo Finally, people will shut up about it for a change, lets celebrate, but I dont see why its a mammoth task, 0-0 at extra time goes to pegs, 1-0 at extra time and we’re cheering our way to wembley, surely an ambitious side like us can look at getting a 1-0 win at home against a side 1 place ahead of us in the table, and to anyone who has a ticket for the match, you are lucky enough to have tickets that I’ve been trying to get hold of since they went on sale so do us proud and make Goodison into the fortress that it’s famed for. Lets all be singing we’re on the march with moyesies army etc. when that final whistle blows. Now I’ll have to stop before my laptop freezes as it seems to do every time I try to write a Mailbag complimenting Hibbo and BK LoL. COYB!!

Rob Jones, it can’t be 0-0 at extra time mate ’cos that will mean it has to be 0-0 after 90 minuts and that would mean us losing 1-2 on aggregate.
Also 1-0 at extra time means a penalties decider before we get to do any cheering.
So let’s just make it 2-0 at full time.

Eric - 1 - 0 after extra time is a win for the Blues on away goals. COYB

My only concern is Penalties....we have really struggled with them this season. Who is our regular penalty taker this season? is it Mikel? I know the Yak is Good but he is not here. Anyone else with this concern?

Thanks Andrew, you’re right.
But I’d still like a 2-0 scoreline.

I can’t concentrate in work today. So excited about this evening. It’s times like this when you realise just how much Everton gets into your blood. It is a religion in many ways. It is also times like this when you realise just how special and unique Everton and their fans are. Kenwright is not alone when he says he is an Everton junkie. Everton you make me proud........go make some more history tonight.

Jonas Gutierez (alias Spiderman), fast strong winger who doesn?t score many (so thankfully the mask celebration isn?t seen so much) and sometimes disappears from the game. That might be because Mallorca tends to go through the middle a lot more since Guiza arrived and Ibagaza returned from Atletico. The asking price of about 10 million (during the summer) is a bit steep too, but well worth a go if the price can be lowered, IMHO. By the way, if I remember correctly, the mask thing is a tribute to some hero in the ’Barrios’ of Buenos Aires who looked out for street kids and, just to twang your heartstrings a little bit more, Jonas might even have been one of them!!
Cool head tonight lads. COYB

Earlier this month I went to watch Mallorca v Barce in Palma and stayed with a Spanish friend of mine and Mallorca season ticket holder. I was very impressed with Jonas, by far Mallorca?s best and most penetrating player, did not hardly give the ball away for the entire game and seemed to beat men like they were not there. He plays on the right, he did in that game, but he did switch for a while.
There is no question of wether he is better than Downing, he is, for sure. Price will be an issue, perhaps a £5-6 mil player in the current market. We need a winger and i think he would fit the bill. Also, he is very tall, big and strong, which is unusual for a winger, an asset for sure.
Problems: Hes an Argi? How will he adapt? If Moyes gets him playing Everton-style football, then he will be great, his skill, pace and strength will add something we don't have.
Secondly, my friend says in his first season he wasn't the same player as he is now. He tended to give the ball away a lot more, McFadden-like, lacked a bit of a brain. Maybe he has grown as a player, maybe he is just having a good season? That's for Moyes to decide and his scouts... Anything above £5-6 mil would be a gamble in my opinion! COYB

I assume this is the same fella who adopted the spiderman mask as a tribute to a close friend (or brother?) who died (a year or so ago I believe). Not sure exactly why the mask but there is a reason along such lines I believe.

I couldnt believe what I was seeing when Tevez put that dummy in his mouth, I felt embarrassed for him. I think its a reflection of the way football is going. Some of these players or so far up their own arses and so removed from reality of the people on the terraces and what we think. Can you imagine the likes of Hunter, Smith, or Big Dunc doing somethink like that? I?d love to know what Alex Ferguson privately thought of it.

I am Spanish and have watched him play over there at BCN and he was very good. Tricky, pacey and plenty of end product, which his team-mates conspired to miss out on entirely. He was their best player on the night but this was a one-nil that was settled by an own goal, so it wasn’t the best showcase of anyone’s talents.
My only worry would be how he copes with the physical side, but then that is usually the main worry with forwards from mediterranean leagues. Snap him up!
