Wow great to see Manny back....quality in there, Arteta looks up for it....... More crosses, more shots.
Worried we might lack a cutting edge tonight and particularly miss the Yak....come on Andy step up!
Good atmosphere.

Carsley booked already!

Could it be about Vaughan or Anichebe tonight?

Anyone else shitting it??? We?ve gotta keep them at bay and not give them the ball back cheaply. Couldn't get there tonight as i?m getting married on Saturday but hell... I?m still confident, COYB

Well, at half-time it?s not ideal, but at least it?s still 0-0.
A good half-time talk by Moysie is what is needed

Arteta looking up for it? Great atmosphere? What game are you guys watching. The obnoxious Chelsea fans are embarrassing us in the noise stakes. Arteta is not getting on the ball in the right areas. Fernandes, although class, is looking off the pace and misplacing a lot of passes. Carsley is booked already. Cahill isn’t getting into the game yet. And had it not been for an incorrect linesman’s flag Anelka would have been through. We just don’t look like scoring in a million years at the moment. Chelsea are such a dull counter attacking side. The crowd are an embarrassment, we should have filled the ground with those Spurs fans from last night!

Hey Santosh, it must be hell watching it on a PC, hope your nerves are hanging on. I?m watching it on Sky with my son... I?m nervous and my finger nails are down to the bone.
Here?s to the second half ? I hope Big Vic or James V will bang one in!! Then here's to Wembley!!!!!

Need to start getting the ball on the floor. Johnson isn?t going to win a header against their back four. I got to admit I?m nervous about this one. just 1 goal could do it but then I?ll crap my self in extra time ? our players will have to hold their nerve... CYOB
David Moore

I think Manny is our shining light on the field today. He is pure class. Although he is misplacing a few balls he is better than anybody else. Shit Cahill came close off Lescott's header. If only he was 2 more inches taller!!!!.

We need James V on to hold the ball up!!!

To many long balls up to AJ, he hasn’t a chance against 2 defenders of that quality. Also, has anyone noticed that Cahill hasn’t won a header up to now?
Alan, in Dublin but wish I was in Goodison this evening
Posted 23/01/2008 at 20:58:20
I though Arteta has been magnificent, especially in the first half hour... more now por favor our Mikel!!!
Manny also looks good as did Tim Howard the few times he was called on. Need an improvement from Oz and Tim though...
Am worried by Wright Philips positioning.. hanging on the edge of the box when they have posession and will eventually get a shot in.

Joe McMahon
Posted 23/01/2008 at 21:35:32
I have always said, and have always been slated by saying this but, Andrew Johnson will never score enough goals, far too lighweight - all he is is just running. We have missed Yak, but knew he was going in Jan but did nothing about it. Give me Darren Bent over Johnson any day.

Stuart Duncan

Joe McMahon - I have to agree with you. I would have started with Big Vic. AJ as a one striker works away, when the other team have to attack - never seems to work at home.

Alan Green is loving this. Can’t believe some of the rubbish he can come out with. ’Chelsea beating Everton as they usually do’, stood out as a comment of someone of his ’quality’.
Totally gutted at the moment, just hope something amasing happens.

In fairness we have gone down to a bloody good side and shows us what we need to do to break into the top group.
One interesting note tonight - Sidwell is a useles stick and under no circumstances should we pursue him. All he did tonight was bitch at the ref trying to get cards for our lot.

Ha, Graham Fadds might have nicked one today.
Just not good enough I am afraid....I’ll settle for winning the UEFA when the boys are back.
With Manny, Steven and Arteta in midfield, the Yak up top we will cause continental clubs big problems....still a lot to pay for.
Lets try to be positive

one question: assuming that a) chelsea finishes top four in the league, and b) if chelsea beats spurs in the final, does the uefa cup spot go to spurs, or to the fifth-placed team in the league?
Dave Turner
Posted 23/01/2008 at 21:57:12
Leslie, if Chelsea win the final the UEFA cup spot goes to the league. So 6th placed team in the Prem.
As for tonight, just gutted.

Posted 23/01/2008 at 21:55:31
We were shite today ? players, managers and supporters included. Arteta, Cahill and Osman weren?t to be seen. Moyes took off our best player in Fernandes. Although he made a few mistakes he was still looking the most likely to create anything. I was watching on TVU player and all I could hear was the Chelsea fans singing and us not. In saying that on another day we could have won if Cech didn?t have a blinder. He was on fire.
The ref also did us no favours. Ossie couldn?t buy a free kick and when cech dived after minimal contact from jags the ref took their word.
Admittidelly the better side won but we didn?t put up a show!

Sorry lads. We have got effort but just not quite good enough.. Chelsea showed the difference in class. They learnt from the forstb game who to keep quiet; they did it... it worked. Now let us learn in the same way but I still think we need something better in midfield. I have doubts if Manny is quite good enough for 90 mins for what we need.
Santosh Benjamin

Brilliant comment Brian..absolutely brilliant....
Wayne Smyth
Posted 23/01/2008 at 21:58:41
Didn’t think there was too much between the sides personally.
Chelsea have that bit of extra quality, evidenced in the goal. But, the main difference in the sides was in Cech. I thought he played exceptionally.
We were always going to need the rub of the green in order to get to the final and I always thought the best chance we had was at stamford bridge, with chelsea down to 10 men and I’m gutted that we allowed their 10 men to push us back and score that 2nd goal.
Nick Xenos
Posted 23/01/2008 at 22:02:04
What were those long balls to Johnson all about? If we were going to play long ball football, Anichebe should of been in from the start. I agree with others on here, we were simply not good enough on the day.
Stuart Duncan
Posted 23/01/2008 at 22:01:40
I think you are being way too harsh on Manny. He’s not played much this season and is just re-learning his Everton team mates.
I do think there is a problem with AJ as part of the Everton squad. We have to change the way we play if he is going to be the lone striker, and we seem to find that difficult. Vic for the Yak is like for like in style. Vaughn is close in style. So how do we make AJ work in a home match like this?
Away from home, where the home side is obliged to come at us, he can be effective (as he was at Wigan). But if we need to beat Chelsea at home in the league later on, would you pick AJ if the Yak wasn’t available?
Roy Harvey
Posted 23/01/2008 at 21:57:34
Gutted. We had a chances to score but lacked a piece of skill like Chelsea shown to score. As i said gutted...but what riles me is that arse on Five Live as usual. "Chelsea beating Everton as they usually do. All they got left is the Premiership" Blah Blah. Anyway, well done Everton for getting as far as you did. Let’s hope the experience is used to push on for another semi final (Or more) next season. As you can see. Trying to look on the bright side tonight!
Jason Broome
Posted 23/01/2008 at 21:53:35
Go Alan... Sidwell is SHITE!
UEFA cup is better than the carling cup anyway.
Long balls or no, Johnson isn’t good enough at this level. Chelsea stuck the little guy in their pocket and easily neutrilized the threat.
We need another big, pacy CF who is a goalscoring, big game killing machine!
Alan Thomas
Posted 23/01/2008 at 22:05:13
Its right we are not quite good enough. The games against the top teams have all proved it this season..all have gone the same way. Loads of huff & puff from us with the opposition hitting us on the break usually in acool manner. We seem to always make that one stupid mistake and its punished. Something (quality/ class) is missing. Lets not be fooled or carried away we are good but not quite good enough to challenge seriously....
leslie wee
Posted 23/01/2008 at 22:05:59
thanks for the response, dave (turner). like you, i am gutted.
i just hope the team can pick it up from here, and not allow the obvious disappointment to affect the rest of the campaign.
i didn’t catch the game on telly, but from what i have gathered on the web, is it true that we have a prawn sandwich brigade of our own? i would be interested to know.

Posted 23/01/2008 at 22:08:02
One point on qualification for next year’s UEFA. If Spurs win the Carling Cup, they get a UEFA spot. If Man Utd beat Man City (say) in the FA Cup final, City get a UEFA spot. In that case, only 5th place gets a UEFA spot, not 6th or below.
Am I right?
Gaz Rees
Posted 23/01/2008 at 22:09:53
We were beat by a much better team,t hough before that goal we were still in it. If only Moyes had shown some balls and brought on another striker about 20 mins earlier! Still fourth and in Uefa Cup though. So could still be great season
Chris Little
Posted 23/01/2008 at 22:13:56
They tried but agree NOT good enough. AJ cannot do everything himself, he was running yards and yards after long hit balls all night. I agree we need something in midfield and Fernandes may be OK but will not be the classy influencial player who will provide that differance. We are back to the question we need money to go for someone who can take the game by the scruff of the neck & change it... Great try great efforts but yes we are not quite there...
Dave Turner
Posted 23/01/2008 at 22:22:39
Stuart you spot on there, FA Cup UEFA spot goes to the beaten finalist if the winner is in the CL and the loser isn’t.
Carling Cup goes to the league if the winner is in the CL.
Not totally sure what happens say if we won the UEFA Cup what would happen.
It a lot of ifs and buts, why settle for the UEFA though, we have a chance at the CL, maybe we can take that one.
Paul Olsen
Posted 23/01/2008 at 22:39:45
Chelsea are lightyears ahead of us when it comes to quality sadly. The skill was the difference tonight, the ability to keep the ball in the team. We?re just not there. No questioning the morale or will to win tonight, we just don?t have players able to compete against these sort of teams.
That being said, watching the game on TV I heard Chelsea supporters singing the whole game. That was even more of a disappointment than the game itself.
Yes, i?m disillusioned tonight.
Stuart Duncan
Posted 23/01/2008 at 22:42:29
Agreed Dave. We need to focus on 4th as there could be very little margin for error. Pleased about Monday’s draw as I think Villa are as much a challenge for 4th as the Reds.
Gavin Ramejkis
Posted 23/01/2008 at 22:47:20
We sadly reverted to type tonight, hump long balls to a lonely AJ making Carvallho and Makele look even better than they are, Valente miles away from Cole for the sucker punch and why the hell cant Everton muster more than a handful of shots on goal in 90 mins. Shit game that slowly and inevitably ran away from us.
On plus side, what little there was, Lescott showed what a waste of money for anyone the tissue paper contract nonce Anelka is had his number the whole game, just wish Lescott had a twin brother we could buy and have our best centre half and best left back in those positions at the same time. I was really hoping for a Spurs type attack tonight trouble we only got a short slot of that before we sat back and started to defend deep again.
Chris Winslet
Posted 23/01/2008 at 22:46:37
On a small point re Chelsea fans being outsinging us, surely what happened was that our friends at Sky pointed an effects mike at the 2000 away fans who were there and then pumped up the volume (they are after all one of the big 4...). You could tell from how close they sounded and how distant our fans seemed. Unless someone at the game thinks we really were quieter...
John Andrews
Posted 23/01/2008 at 22:43:46
Jason, Johnson is good enough at this level if the ball is played to him on the floor ! It appears that we still have not grasped that yet. He got the most diabolical service tonight and I was not surprised when every time the ball was hoofed up to him he failed to win it.
We just did not play as we can. End of.

Chelsea [small club] actually sent four thousand tickets back to Everton, for a semi final, the bastards don't deserve to win fuck all.
Tony Williams
Posted 23/01/2008 at 23:39:49
Chris, just back from the match and there is absolutely no way that they outsung us. There pathetic attempt of travelling fans could hardly be heard in the Lower Gwladys, in fact in the second half when we did manage to eventually hear them we started to cheer them for finally making a noise.
So all thise nuggets saying they outsung us, I would suggest you get a first hand account before you start moaning about the fans.
John Murphy
Posted 24/01/2008 at 00:04:23
There is no way that the Chelsea fans ’out sung’ us. To think though that they had the cheek to sing your support is full of shit is beyond me. Did they not see the huge empty section of the away end.
For me, the difference between both sides was the ability to break at speed. We would loose the ball when on the attack and within 10 seconds we were defending in our penalty area. Oh and Moyes, don’t go near Sidwell, he is shite!
Jim Lloyd
Posted 24/01/2008 at 00:04:58
I’ve read quite a few posts tonight about our presumed dumbness while Chelsea fans made all the noise. I guess that all these posts were from fans watching it on telly.
Can I just say, as someone who has lost my voice!!, that we sung the house down tonight. You wouldn’t have been able to see it, but the 2-3000 Chavs were seated in the Upper Bullens. ALL AROUND the bloody commentary position, half way along the Bullens Rd stand. No wonder you only heard them, our stupid feckin club don’t seem to realise what effect this gives on the Box. Write in and let them know what it was like.
Tonight, I was proud of our supporters. No, it wasn’t quite as good as the Bayern Night but it was a bloody good night from those in the ground. Don’t do us down, it’s right that we only managed to hear the southern softies, once they scored. And even then if we still had the Boys Pen, it would have been louder. Come on soft arse Wyness, get to understand the psychology of maximising the noise we make.
Gavin Ramejkis

On a note about those bi-directional microphones why not use this experience to our advantage and have the microphones deployed around the home fans and properly amplified using the PA system now we have heard what a handful of glory hunting twats sound like.

I think the games against chelsea were very tight ones ,but things in games change the hole thing, the wright phillips goal in the injury time was a blatant foul ,and in last nights game the was no foul commited by jags when lesscott scored ,it was 0-0 then, and are best pressure of the game the top three bias,if those two decisions had been for chelsea they would have been the other way around, but were getting there.
Nick Xenos
Posted 25/01/2008 at 11:30:25
Sorry Harry but I don’t buy that. It’s no use coming up with excuses when we lose. Imagine if Moyes was like that and blamed lady luck and refereeing decisions everytime we lost, then we would never improve as a side because we would not be looking at our own shortcomings. We simply weren’t good enough. We really missed the Yak and his ability to hold up the ball when we went forward. Anyway, hopefully we will better off next time we reach the latter stages of a cup.
