The Mail Bag

Same as, same as.....

Stuck at home with the flu, I never once thought like we looked like breaking Chelsea down. As ever, some of our distribution was woeful and I don`t think we had even one direct shot at goal. Moyes was again proved not up to it with a sterotype game plan and the usual 70-min substitutions. Regretfully, we still have a long way to go before we will make an impact on the Big Boys!

Brian, Chelsea were just that little bit better than us in nearly every department. It has very little to do with Moyes not being up to it. He played a decent formation that I think most fans might have also chosen prior tp the match. Playing AJ up front on his own just didnt work, but he had little choice. We would have been overun in midfield had he decided to go 4 4 2, and no doubt you and every other moaning git would have slated him for letting that happen.

We tried, but the best team won, no disgrace in that. We are an improving side and will come again. What would you have us do? Sack Moyes and go the way of Newcastle? We are all dissapointed and need some time to gather our thoughts, but give Moyes a break will you.

AJ shot on goal great save by Cech, Jags backheeler on goal saved by Cech, there’s two direct shots on goal,so straight away you are wrong.

What our kid said.

Except I thought we lacked a bit of guile and cleverness in midfield and didn?t play the ball along the ground quickly or accurately enough to Johnson- Manny was not firing on all cylinders and did Cahill play?

Chelsea game a superb, largely defensive performance, then caught us on the break with a great goal. Their record under Avram Grant speaks volumes. Credit where it is due, goals change games and we narrowly missed out. The rub of the green was not with us. On another night, Cahill would have not missed burying Lescott’s header by millimetres. On another night, the ref would not have called Jagielka’s very minor infirngement and we would have gone ahead instead of them. They scored on the break when we were pushing them back (we had 70% possession and territorial advantage too in that phase of the game). Cole received a great long ball pass when our defence gave him the crucial half of yard space. AJ never received such a pass all game and their defence did not give him the space wither despite his tireless sharp running. We missed Yakubu, Pienaar and Yobo too, as well as needing to play Manny who is well short of match sharpness. The game came too soon for us unless we were able to get the rub of the green we simply did not get. We are alive in UEFA though, lets get behind the boys and Moyes to spur us on to glory, we can rise from the ashes of defeat! COYB.

Sorry lads,mis-read the game plan-what does the Carling Cup count for anyway and now we’re out of the useless FA Cup as well we can focus on winning the Prem and UEFA Cup double.Siily me!

Brian stop acting like an arse. Your sarcastic tone does you no favours and makes you look like an idiot. I suggest that you put a little less whisky in your lemsip!

Maybe if you give David Moyes £100’s of millions then he may be able to put together a team that will suit your immediate needs but otherwise you will have to wait for further gradual inprovement on the already improved position that has been happening over the last few years.
