“It may take money...”

That's what David Moyes said last night after we we huffed and puffed but couldn't blow the Chelsea mansion down.

Is this David Moyes maybe realising he's taken us as far as he can? Maybe he has? All any manager with Moyes resources could do is maybe get us 5-6th or at a pinch 4th.

But will money be forthcoming? I'm sure if Blue bill had the money he would give it Moyes, but lets face it all Moyes is gonna get is £10 milllion a season tops, not a great deal though when you are trying to capture players good enough to break into the top 4 and challenge for honours.

It beggars belief how we have not had any signs of investment. We're 4th in the league, in Europe have a fairly decent squad and fanatstic support. What we need now is that £100 million+ to push us further. Will that money ever come?

Not if Wyness shoots his load in excitement everytime we get offered small sums of money. What Wyness got for the Chang deal was scandalous. As a team in Europe pushing hard for 4th we should and could have got a lot more.

So as Daid Moyes says, "It may take money". When he realises hes not gonna get it dont be shocked to see David Moyes walk, he's maybe done all he can. I think deep down in his heart last night he realised that.

I think deep down last night we all realised that. There’s only one place separating ourselves and Chelsea in the league, but there’s a big gulf in class. Without massive investment that won’t change.

I wonder how many people realise he nearly walked in the summer before we released the money for Yakubu, at the same time offered to buy Manny & the porto midfielder (name escapes me).

The thing is, I think DM knows what he needs to get into champions league and stay around there & that investment is required to get it. Last night was brilliiant by DM for reminding the board that to get to these finals, finish in top 4 and challenge for titles we need even more investment.

Where it comes from is another story.......

Dan,

I’m sure it was tongue in cheek with reference to Chelsea’s spending.

As for that £100 million.

It’s never going to come.

Don't be rediculous! When Moyes took charge 5 years ago we were a relagation team and with virtually no money over that period we have become a UEFA standard team progressing to a champions league team if we remain in 4th, and with 4th comes the money, the money we need over the next 5 year plan to compete for the league. just because we were beaten 1-0 last night doesn't call for all this negativty.

Yeah but what if that injection of cash never comes to take us further, tahts all we will ever be.

At the moment Moyes is trying to knock down a wall with his head, what he wants is for someone to buy him some proper tools for the job.

I think Moyes can still do a lot for Everton but I wouldnt blame him if he went to a genuinley big club (im talkin Man u, Arsenal etc) but not to go to a self inflated so-called big club (newcastle, spurs etc) just so he can spend lots of somebody elses money! We realised last night just what power and depth a team like Chelsea posses and that will take some catching but im confident Moyes is the best person to try!

It’s not negativity Ian, it’s reality. Moyes was the one who said himself last night we need more funds to bridge the gap between ourselves and Cheslea. Isn’t that obvious?

Champions league doesn’t suddenly hand you enough money to challenge for the league, the money only comes if you get into the group stages and even then it’s only an extra £10m which is hardly enough for one top class player these days. Extra investment is needed from the board/owners, that’s what Moyes was hinting at and he’s absolutely right if we’re to progress further.

The problem with the idea of investment is that Everton would need huge sums spent on the team to get them to Man U, Arsenal, Chelsea level, add to that the fact that we need a new stadium (and a world class iconic one at that according to KEIOC) so your talking, lets say £400 - £500 million? With guarentees of success? I dont know, but I do know that the word ’Investment’ suggests they want a return on their money sometime this millenium!

Some good points Dan. IHowever, whilst it may be heresy to some to say it, the Kirkby stadium with its additional commercial potential will make us more attractive to potential investors provided we keep mixing it in the top 6 and progressing in the cups / Europe. I know this has been cited in the conspiracy theory realms as to why Blue Bill is so keen to move.

Few ’investors’ / owners want to come in and then have to spend or underwrite substantial sums on a new stadium or renovate the existing one. I’m sure part of the attraction for Abramovich, Lerner and Ashley was that the clubs they bought had all recently redeveloped their stadia, although in Chelski’s and Newcastle’s cases, this formed part of the substantial debt they inherited.

On Moyes’ part, I cant see any of the top 4 going for him as manager in the immediate future, nor do I see him leaving us for the likes of Newcastle, Spurs, Villa unless he’s sacked or falls out with the board. Most likely destination is Celtic or Rangers (who he has hinted at managing in the future)
